As our president is a Indian-Tamilian, Greek president sould have greeted him either in Tamil or English. Why the hell he greeted him in a language which is not understood by him.

dear pjrs,
for your kind information Kalam's father and sanskrit scholar of Rameshwaram (T N) are close friends and by the same person Kalam sir has learnt Sanskrit after attending 7 years of classes. Please read his biography before you come to any conclusion. And more over, if one does not understand that language even then it will be known as Indian language. Greeting in one nation's language is the best respect any civilized can give.

because APJ was not representing Tamilnadu, he was representing INDIA and more in the context of ANCIENT CIVILISATION. No body in this world would like to dispute on the fact that SANSKRIT is the ancient most language in the world

APR, on what basis did you say Tamils are not Indians & Hindus??.If we are not Indians do you think current president of India will be President?? who happens to be born in Tamil Nadu
What about the rich Hindu heritage in the form of the temple you find all over Tamil Nadu?? do you think they are built by Muslims???
The Tamilians of Sri Lanka have problem in Sri Lanka not in India, it's nothing to do with India and also with People of Tamil Nadu(Expect few vote bank politicians). In Tamil Nadu People don't give a DAME about this.
If you don't know the topic you are talking PLS DON'T WRITE NONSENSE AND CONFUSE OTHERS.

Sanskrit is accessible to all !! but who wants to spend time for a language which doesnt have any commercial value. Its much more big issue than cultural sensitivity. Like all muslims wouldnt learn Arebic and all Christians wouldnt learn Hebrew (bible is originally written in this language)but they would like to learn the languages which are prevelant and used in thier society and work culture jaisey ENGLISH

SEX is a taboo in Abhramanian (muslim, christian, jews) It was not before Indian civilisation was seen as a way to reach to God. Those who think SEX is a sin and physical organs are a matter of SHAME they should really need to understand it more better.

I also regret such a harsh comment.. Just that we do not want to learn tolerance from a race / religion which invaded our country and looted our temples, razed Nalanda and molested our womenfolk...

I totally agree with you.. He is a rare Muslim who knows where he is born and the culture of that land matters more than assumed (imposed) religion and an alien culture..

kalam knew only way to become president was to chant some veda everyday...if he was practising muslim he would hav never be made the president... BJP made him the president right after GUJ riots to make up for their mess..
Germans including Hitler, encouraged their scientists and other intellectuals to learn Samskrita, so that they can study our manuscripts and understand how science and tech concepts which were already mastered by ancient Indians, could be used effectively.
Unfortunately, neither we nor our government have realised the importance and we continue to ignore the vast treasuers that are lying within our reach.
GOI who is so bent upon the reservation issues for IIM and IITs - why can't they start a Samskrita Univesity in each state and make it open for all? I am sure we have the required resources also for teaching. No use all students think that IIT / IIM is the be-all and end-all.

I agree with your suggestions. Germans learnt a lot from the Sanskrit manuscripts that they took from India and even today it is the only place where one can do Ph.D. in Sanskrit! The knowledge about rocketry in which Germans first made rockets was acquired through some ancient Sanskrit manuscripts. There is also a record od a brahmin in Mumbai who manufactured a plane and flew it on chowpaty an art he learnt from one of the old scripts in sanskrit. It also happens to be the most computer friendly language in the world!
Recently, a chancellor advised students not to study Sanskrit at university level, as it would only make the Pujarees. If this psyche is nurtured among students, then Sanskrit would soon become all Greek to Indians. We may then lose our roots from the vedic civilization--established as the oldest in the world. Vedic maths is also best for computor adoption, and so our people are shining in computor software. Moreover, Sanskrit is the only living ancient language being widely practised daily as the holy vedic mantras, which are a vehicle to link our mind to soul/atma, which is direct link between living-beings and Parmatma/God Almighty. Our policies should be such that in future, we may not feel the necessity learning Sanskrit from foreigners as we started doing it for Yoga. Long live Sanskrit and our sanskriti. Thankyou Mr President of Greece and Prsident of India. RC YashRoy (Ph.D, Carleton, Can) GOB-9, IVRI Campus, Bareilly)

Very true... I hope some people are interested in it and study it of their own accord. Definitely, it should not be forced in the curriculum though! If Indians are enlightened and take the stand that none of them need it, so be it!
thanks for germany atleast to provide some know how of sanskrit at international level including it in their language curriculums. we indians anyway look down our language . auf wiedersehn
