bhagwan Mahavira
by on Apr 24, 2007 11:03 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Author have mentioned in his article "Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainisim" .Though this info was not that important in this article but I dont know why author has stressed on it.
Anyways I want to point out Bhagwan Mahavir is the last Tirthankara of Jainnism and not the founder of Jainism.
I will request the quthor to please rectify the same
Thanks

What you pointed out is correct.

It also mentions Meghnad Desai as " British economist Meghnad Desai". I doubt authenticity of Desai's British Citizenship.

Amartya Sen for sure has not renounced his Indian passport.

As I stated earlier, Indian media is MOST UNBECOMING OF A RISING COUNTRY.

Full of second grade people, who writes garbage.

A country's true measure is its media. No wonder, Indian's present chaitic status is evident from Indian media as well.

So, pls do NOt look for these kind of accuracy from rediff or Indian media.

Really you are a sick mind. Go and take lessons from stundets of super30 at patna, who are dalits and who appear and qualify IIT-JEE exams in general quota.
Onyl your kind of third rate people require quota who get admission and kill patients in hospital, make a bridge collapse and even make a society collapse.
When called backward you vey same person feel bad but for having reservation you shamelessly accept the divide rule policy.
SO shameless you guys become that you don;t spare discussign this sick topic in front of nalanda like insitution ..a logon of world union and equality.
AT least Nalanda will not see reservation as it's rulign board will be an international body and not Arjun Singh. Nalanda will be the only true academics world in the comign time when entire Indian institutions would be mugged up by quota for illegitimate children of Arjun Singh. Effect it already visible over IITs and it's coming products.
Now go and request Arjun Singh to talk to world to implement reservation in Nalanda also, even before it's construction is completed.

Laughingly, this report terms Nalanda as
by Bhaskar Chattopadhyay on Apr 24, 2007 10:56 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am very much disheartened the way this new item is written. There is no question that this is a great new, but the script which goes with it lacks any understanding of the historic importance of Nalanda, or its importance in today's Asia.

When this university is being built by an international consortium of Asian countries by spending almost 1 Billion Dollar, this author writes that "its going to be brand image of Bihar" alone!

Indian media is filled with mediocre people, second grade journalist basically hardly any good students get into media. exceptions are always there.

This story doesn;t talk how Nalanda was destroyed. Neither it speaks about gradiose.

Laughingly, this report terms Nalanda as "Oxford of the East"! Fact is, Oxford should be called "Nalanda of the West." Indian Press is still suffering from Colonial hangover.

Probably you are true.

But comaprision is always with something that is known.

How many people know what Nalanda is, except what most of us have heard in our History classes( and probably forgotten)?

And even if Nalanda comes back will it be what the old NAlanda University was?

It will only be a modern replica of the great ancient university. Only the name will be there.

Also, the author did right in not writing about its destruction. Because it will have a very negative effect. Peole on this board will bicker and abuse as if it was "you" and "you" who did it.

Since every one here is applause for Nalanda , which stood for Indian culture, and which in turn stands for good will it would be a good idea to try to know what this culture was, which is all but extinct from this country.

And one does not need a Nalanda to know what Indian culture was. Its there in all those great books forgotten on our book shelves and never read.

If one forgets history, then you are going to repeat it.

Today's Indian Muslims didn;t do that. It was done by Foreign invaders.

So, if one writes Nalanda was destroyed by Turkish Invaders, why today's Muslims feel uncomfortable?

Let the history speak for itself.

Suppressing history of middle age's atrocities selectively has caused greatest harm to Indian politics.

Mr. Bhaskar Chattopadhyay: My admiration for you keeps growing by leaps and bounds. In these times of glossing over, the depth of your understanding amazes me. For the benefit of knowledge-seekers I give below a link pursuing which one can learn about Nalanda and all its glory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nalanda.

Right you are Mr. Bhaskar Chattopadhyaya: Oxford should indeed be called the Nalanda of the West! You are again right that the story does not cover how Nalanda was destroyed in the first place! Perhaps it would be anti-secular to talk about who destroyed Nalanda and why. The hymen of secularism is so thin that it gets ruptured when history is recounted without any bias. Secularism looses its chastity the moment truth is spoken.

It is not "secularism" that looses its chastity when negative things are said.

It is the people who read it / hear it / reply to it.

Its a good idea to say only positive things,/ think only positive things,/ do only positive things.

That's the true Indian culture. Applause to NAlanda means applause to Indian culture as well

Indian culture was not made by me or anyone on this board.

But we have all made our own "indian Culture " and messed it up.And then speak as if "this is Indian culture".

Try reading the great Indian books written by the great Indain sages long ago. And see how wrong each one of us are/ most of us are

My Heart Goes for Nalanda
by Ravi Roy on Apr 24, 2007 10:56 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Value of Nalanda is perhaps much bigger than present day India itself.
Today where our so called intelligent brains die to leave India and do study in abroad, they should be told story of Nalanda which groomed students from entire world be it Greek Philosopher, western world, Japaneese, Russians, chineese or our wn greats.
Vasco De Gama discovered a lost India which we see today but Nalanda had made India the world of civilization and learning, world of talents and great brains.
Many of the present day subjects were started there. it was the first university of the world, which proves that we Indians were most civilized and started the concept of education and university and shownt he world the importance of research in civilization.
Now today even when Nalanda is being rebuild, it's matter of shame to we Indians that people from world are coming forward to remake it, but it's own people, people of India are not showing any interest in it. No group no person reasy to raise money for this cause and mak donation to the state governemnt as contribution of modern day Indians as a tribute to their pride.
No filmstar here is so large hearted to donate even his single film salary, no businessmen turning up to controbute, no avaerage people coming up...and who is coming up? people from japan, china, korea, brazil, singapore, usa, srilanka, malaysia! This itself shows how good people we Indians are, even after knowing that new Nalanda will redefine our glory in world, will benefit our own children and brains who leave India for studies, and specially when we know that Nalanda is destined to be best of the world back again!

Very well put, as such the mind set of every educated Indian is abominable, they just don't see any hope. Patriotism is at its worst in India, which sadly is focussed on when India plays cricket rather than much bigger matters.
We would develop only when our mind set is changed, only when we feel the urge to see a developed India, only when we strive in that direction rather than cribbing about petty things and how corrupt the govt is are stuff like that.
Well back to the topic, Nalanda is not merely a university but a Pride of India and i with my full heart would hell it propel to its full glory.

Dont have to dig .

By the terms of the Reservation policy of the Governemnt of India, and the belief of the people who both support and resist it , Vyasa Maharshi, Narada Muni, Vidhura etc will fall under the OBC category.

But are they?

Bhagvan who created the chathurvarnyam has said ,"i have made the chathurvarnyam as per one 's qualities and deeds" ( Bhagvad Geetha 4:13)

Alas! Neither the Governemnt of India , nor the people of India who support / resist the policy of reservation know who the Brahmanas and who the non - Brahmanas are.

Let the Nalanda universiry come back. So that it can at least teach what true / basic Indian culture is. It definitely needs a renaissance.

Not the university , but the culture.
