India's Heritage some Mournful Thoughts of A thinking Mind....
by D goel on Jun 27, 2007 04:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Panchkula 4 pm. Wednesday, June 27, 2007,
Undersigned when young some half a century ago as an instructor of Philosophy at Colonial seat of British learning The reputed University of Allahabad used to incessantly read ,write and dream that one day this poorly paid student shall restore the honour of a lost Civilization, over the centuries of slavery and flunkeydom to unreal servility to Western supremacy, despite the reality of decolonisation.
Now at 73 yrs and as retired well-known teacher of Logic and Western philosophy and Indian Society the dream has vanished. I have dragged my carcass to an inconspicuous cabin in this non-descipt flat with books and pen paper sketching day & night the mordant follies of my Nation, Society and People..I wonder if we would ever be able to seek the glory of Mind , Reason ,Freedom and dignity of a Society determined to stand for its basic Soul of
Truth -Force...one that is same for the Upanishads , The great Athenian Socrates , Marcus Aurelios , Kant or Wittgenstein
and our own great seekers and Savants From Bhagwan Amitabh, Kabir , Guru Gobind Singh
Gandhi or Paramhans Mira or Andal
We are a conspiracy of the fifth rate copyists and Shastris and Ecclesiastic pseudo-Scholarship in the socalled 300 Indian Universities. Crassest mimicry and posturing runs and corrupts the imagination of the misguided boys and girls , on the campuses..
Crazy for silly unnatural aping of what is wrongly believed is cool or is in vogue in 'states

Good writing, a little bit more detailed and simplified writing would have been better.

Anyway thank you so much.

Nalanda destruction
by ice berg on May 17, 2007 06:13 PM  Permalink

Its a pity that even today the media and the intelligensia want to gloss over the destruction wrought on India by Muslim invasions. This Nalanda University was burnt down and all its inmates massacared by Muslim invaders. It is said that the library burnt for weeks on an end. Imagine the valuable knowledge lost in this. Why is no mention being made of this? How long will Indians be made to believe that Islamic invasions were benign?

Buddha in the land reduced by buddhus
by M Purushoutham on Apr 29, 2007 11:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is indeed sad to note the condition of the place where Buddha once walked. Now it has become the land of only govt sponsored buddhus. Hope things improve.

Sonia%u2019s Congress party with their unholy alliance with anti-national Chinese loving Communists is an embodiment of anti-nationalism & a threat to the integrity & unity of Bharat. They have already succeeded in dividing our country & created a monster called Pakistan. They are not happy that the Indian defense services are maintaining some form of unity & integrity. Now they want a Muslim regiment in the Armed forces. They want to see riots in Armed Forces also. They divide people on communal lines to garner votes without any thought to the long-term consequences. Communists, of course, will lick Chinese boots even when the Chinese are kicking Indian asses.
It is simply shocking that the Congress party rascals will undertake a census of our proud & nationalistic armed forces for special reservation for Muslims with an eye on Muslim votes. They have corrupted every institution in the country & now they have stooped so low as to destroy the morale of our proud service men. Even an average Indian knows that certain things are so sensitive & you do not rake up issues for short-term gains. Sonia, Mukherjee & Arjun Singh have tried to apportion seats in higher educational institutions based on religion rather than on merit & economic means. They want special reservation for Muslims only inprivate companies, IITs, IIMs, & other top institutions. Who is more communal? They blame BJP all the time. They will rest only after dividing every family in the country. Why are Hindus still supporting these corrupted dogs? First the Congress should wean away the Muslims from the madrassas & teach them that the country is paramount more than one%u2019s religion. Congress is the number one enemy of our country.

New Nalanda U
by Bodh Ramdeo on Apr 28, 2007 03:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Knowing Indians chalta-hai attitude and their penchant for doing things half-arsed, this Nai Nalanda too will be a mediocre enterprise, held hostage by selfish, greedy corrupt netas and babus, unless professional managers are integrated into the team from the get-go. Perhaps the Bihar govt could get the Japanese to run the show, knowing their no-nonsense professionalism, efficiency and their penchant for getting things done right.

Please don't let Arjun Singh know that such a move is in the offing. They can stoop to any level to wipe out our heritage for the sake of votes.

nalanda 's come- back
by ashok leyland on Apr 26, 2007 02:00 AM  Permalink

This news item appeared in the December 6 2006 publication of the New York Times!
I say how clever of Rediff to give 1/10 of the report and the info contained, in this ridiculously short half page. Smart way to educate and keep Indians informed. Shabash!
We see 10 pages on Bollywood weddings and get half a page on on of the most significant monuments to education the world has ever known. We are the last to know about our own country. Everywhere else even Thailand, Malaysia, all buildings and such are given first class treatment by top professionals, in India as Ms.Nadia has written we have PWD doing the job, whitewashing buildings and providing the correct base for pan spit and dirt.
Arrey, when will we learn to appreciate our own art, architectural treasures?

Nalanda university
by nadia sani on Apr 26, 2007 01:44 AM  Permalink

I sincerely hope that it is not the PWD that has been given charge of the work, it would be a shame if the correct methods of conservation were not used to restore this great seat of learning.

I hope the authorities will give greater details before undertaking the actual work and ruining it.

If the buddha is said to have visited the university "several times"..it should have existed around 600 B.C not from the 5th to 12 th century AD.
Nevertheless, Nalanda & takshashila stand as proud symbols of India's great history, and it would do us proud to herald in a new era of students some 2500 yrs since it began.

This is really great news to be posted....Really if still exists from 5th century the varsity would have been the place of technology/art/science/social destinations...far ahead of west influence.

Any way its not late to renovate...and bring worldly scholars...and importantly sholistic works to india
