Me and my friend got admitted into REC.I got the score they wanted. My friend is a brahmin. But his score was not up to the standards. He also fell sick during exams. But still he made it .His father was able to get recommendation from higher authority who was also a brahmin. And once we finished the course,my friend got selected in the campus interview conducted by all brahmin interviewers. He was proud that he got the job because of the favor from fellow brahmins.Others who were smarter than him could not get that job. This is how they grow.
The most comical part of this affair is that yesterdays RAVANS who committed unimaginable atrocities on poor helpless, defenceless RAMS & banished them to economic, social ,political & religious Vanavasa for 1000s of years, are turning around and HEARTLESSLY calling these poor ostracised creatures as RAVANS. Man isn't the pot still calling the kettle black !!

Tamil Arasan: Did Periyar not preach that Ram and Ravan are fiction and not reality? Did he also not preach that castes do not exist and all men (& women) are equal?
But then, Mr. E.V. Ramasamy Naickar belied both in his very own name! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black, eh?!
P.S: Interesting note on EVR. While he promoted anti-god sentiments in the Hindu community, little did he do to challenge the muslim and christian gods and beliefs. Talk about double standards too, eh!

BTW this discussion is about the quota system only. I wonder why Periyar is being dragged into it. Anyway you agree that ram & ravan were mythical figures only? Also the notion that periyar being anti-hindu is false. He was not against hindu religion or any religion for that matter. He was only against superstitions in Hindu religion and the way certain communities were using religion for their selfish ends. Otherwise how could Periyarism thrived in TN which has majority hindu population? Now don't turn around & start your tamils are banghees!!! tirade again!
Only financial status of the family shoul dbe the criteria, and not the caste or creed or nationality or religion should not be criteria for reservations.
I KNOW, THE SC/ST categories are being illtreated in some areas, but the problem doesnot go away by giving reservations, but by enforcing the lwas that exist for preventing the discrimination. Making RESERVATIONS as a means will only help the RICHER AND IN POWER SC/ST people to benefit, and not the really poorer SC/ST people.
RE:POVERTY SHOULD BE ONLY CRITERIA FOR RESERVATIOS
by kalyan yerra on Apr 24, 2007 03:10 AM Permalink
You are exactly correct . It is really stupidity to give reservation on caste basis.
The real SC and OBC are not getting the benefits. It is the rich and elite SC and OBC are raking the benefits provided by quota. I can tell you many examples. One is Doctor Ramadoss. He claims to be the champion of OBC. His son Anbumani is again a doctor, who got admission to Medical course based on his OBC status. Anbumani has three daughters who are studying in best of the best schools in India and again they would soon be joining medical colleges based on the quota system. I know the cases of many Scheduled Caste IAS officers whose sons have become IAS again b'cause of their SC status. Supreme court should give benefit to real, poor SC and OBC people. The Indian Govt should devise a way every OBC & SC gets benefit once. For that, income criteria should be brought in.

Pradip, good question!!all reserved people(sc/st doctors, engineers, etc.) should wear an arm band or a badge so that other people can know easily who they are dealing with. Otherwise, such data should be available on web.

Common guys. Donot fight here for silly reasons. Just be calm and observe the benefits that India is gaining when USA is allowing more and more of H1's. Indian economy is growing at around 9% right now, fuelled by the inflow of money in to India. NRI's remitted around 20billion on average every year since last 3 or 4 years. Even software companies are earning money to the tune of around 20 billion on average for last 4 years. Pharma & apparel exports are also making sizable contributions. All this foreign money is aiding in the development of the country. Especially, improving the standard of living of the common man and bringing people out of poverty. Is it not the good thing. Just stop fighting and work for the development of the INDIA and fellow INDIANS. JUST FIGHTING WITHIN US in the name of religion or caste doesnot get us anywhere, and we will be loosers in the furture. LOOK AT CHINA. HOW IT IS TURNING ITS PEOPLE TO WORK HORSES AND MAKING THEM SLOG FOR HOURS TO INCREASE ITS STANDARD OF LIVING. LEARN BY LOOKING AT OTHERS if you cannot get new ideas for development.

so, all in all, we are getting around $60 to $80 billion on exports and the NRI remittances. So, donot hate anyone and try to accompany all and lead the way towards development, instead of getting in to silly fights with which, nothing is going to happen.
RESERVATIONS SHOULD BE GIVEN ONLY FOR THE POOR, AND TO ERADICATE CASTE DISCRIMINATION, WE HAVE TO ASK GOVT TO ENFORCE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LAWS WITH IRON-HAND. NO MATTER HOW MUCH OF RESERVATIONS ARE GIVEN, UNLESS WE ENFORCE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LAWS, CASTE DISCRIMINATIONS THAT WE SEE NOW ARE NOT GOING TO GO AWAY. THE RASON WHY THESE DISCRIMINATIONS BASED ON CASTE WERE FRAMED IN THE FIRST PLACE WERE TO KEEP PEOPLE SUPPRESSED AND ROB THEIR SERVICE. UNLESS THE ANTIDISCRIMINATION LAWS ARE ENFORCED STRICTLY, THIS WILL GOON, NO MATTER HOW MUCH RESERVATIONS ARE PROVIDED.
What is astounding in this issue is that no matter what the controversy is about ..there have always been political parties and leaders supporting either side of the issue or the other depending on whose vote they want but for the first time in the history of politics do we see politicians unite against such a massive population. How can there be no political leaders in the government supporting the huge number of general candidates against the implementation of OBC quota? There once used to be a divide in the country among groups of people lead by political leaders ...now we see a divide between politicians and the general population ... What's happening to democracy? Who is representing the population of general candidates ( present and future) in the government? None? How come??
All parties are supporting reservations. I agree the reservations on finacial base. But its a dream. The parties are more in to vote bank, than eardicating the poverty.
For General category there is no party to vote.
Some one need to start a party like. Reddy party, kulkarni party , sigh party.. for each caste there should be a party to vote.
I do not know which direction are we going now...ofcourse backward ....:-))
Finally there's some hope that our so called leaders will be put in their place. But just a reminder- we all need to stand together united backing the Supreme Court... Are you in?
Justice Pasayat and Panta, sirs i bow in honor to both of u. i better go to supreme court from next tuesday to offer my prayers than a temple since you guys are becoming the nation's TRUE saviours. three cheers, charnamrat and flowers to u. u really deserve to be offered our most revered charansparsh. wee need Gods like you in this country. please be Ram and get rid of all the ravans in our Lanka (Parliament)
