great verdict
by krishnendu mukherjee on Apr 23, 2007 06:12 PM  Permalink

Great verdict by the SC. This is a tight slap on the face of Arjun singh. It is time for india to move ahead and this verdict shows the way. Since our economy is becoming so competitive, it is evident that very field jobs and education should be made competitive too. In 50 years if the government thinks that there are still OBC and SCST prevail (which is true) the certainly this is not the right policy or the opportunity is enjoyed by some wrong people.

I agree there are backward class in India, but the cream of the policy never reach them. So the government should think of some other policy for their betterment. HOwever there are a large number of people who got the benifit from this kind of reservations and they are no longer backward, except their title which is used for getting those extra benifit. SC has shown the way. Government will always care abt vote bank but if india has to go ahead then make the field more competitive.

Reservation not good
by sriram iyer on Apr 23, 2007 06:11 PM  Permalink

No one is suppressing any caste. These professional institutions does not admit students by caste to make any reservation on that. Its matter of merit. For eg there are only 100 seats, in the current system...the top 100 rank holders get the seats. If reservation comes, then top 73 will be all castes and 27 Has to be OBC. that means.. there are 27 Other caste, may be forward class, who would have otherwise be selected, would be deprived of the seat through reservation. This is highly discouraging on brainy guys. If OBC should join these institutions.. do not get through quota,, be a topper in the entrance exam and get in to it..that way even if all are OBC who cares..in fact..I would appreciate.. BUT reservation...its a bad way of competing. its like announcing the victory before the game. something like match fixing

i dont understand the need for reservations.....y cant the obc/sc/st n muslims get their seats on their own capabilities? y should the general category suffer coz of reservations even if they get a high score? reservations are pointless.

good compromise
by balakaushal damaraju on Apr 23, 2007 06:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Since the reservation issue is sensitive i have good solution . pls comment on it constructively.

Let the reservation for so called lower castes limit to 50 pc. Let govt pass the bill that they will not touch the remaining 50 pc. Let the remaining 50 pc be reserved in constitution for those who dont come in the so called lower castes. There should be no encroachmentAny encroachment can be crime. If reserved seats are vacant, then let it be vacant.

Then lets see which sides seat which will be vacant. After few years, the category in which seats remained vacant can reduce their qota and given to other side, so that vacancies will be filled.

Its is good idea, improvements are expected.

Nope sir... This sounds more balanced than the present day situation... Politicians have no incentive to project balanced solutions... Y wud the reserved categories want to reduce their play area by 50%?

Sorry I do not think its good idea. Because, the objective of reservation is to uplift the suppressed class. These days there are no suppressed calss. veryone enjoys the right be free as equal. hence if India has to grow, there must be competition amongst the talented. reservation will supress the talent. Let it be a free competition..Abolish caste system

merit shld be the only criteria
by NATESH P on Apr 23, 2007 06:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

WELL DONE SUPREME COURT!!! FINALLY VICTORY TO MERIT.. IN FACT ALL RESERVATIONS SHOULD BE SCRAPPED [ BASED ON CAST , RELIGION OR CREED] DEFINE AN INCOME LEVEL, BELOW WHICH MAY YOU BE AN SC ,OBS OR EVEN AN BRAHMIN ,YOU WILL GET YOUR RESERVATION ( AS LONG AS YOU R A HUMAN )..

THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD, AND NOT THE WAY THE RESERVATION MANIAC ARJUN SINGH THINKS.. ITS TIME THAT OLD MAN RESIGNS AND SITS HOME... HOW UNFORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE ELECTED SUCH A PARTY TO POWER......

I agree with you natesh. They should define an income level and reservation should be purely based on that.
