great verdict
by krishnendu mukherjee on Apr 23, 2007 07:29 PM  Permalink

Great verdict by the SC. This is a tight slap on the face of Arjun singh. It is time for india to move ahead and this verdict shows the way. Since our economy is becoming so competitive, it is evident that very field jobs and education should be made competitive too. In 50 years if the government thinks that there are still OBC and SCST prevail (which is true) the certainly this is not the right policy or the opportunity is enjoyed by some wrong people.

I agree there are backward class in India, but the cream of the policy never reach them. So the government should think of some other policy for their betterment. HOwever there are a large number of people who got the benifit from this kind of reservations and they are no longer backward, except their title which is used for getting those extra benifit. SC has shown the way. Government will always care abt vote bank but if india has to go ahead then make the field more competitive.

SC declines to vacate stay on OBC quota
by mm gupta on Apr 23, 2007 07:27 PM  Permalink

The original concept of reservation during framing of CONSTITUTION was based on a supposition that the society was not balanced socially or educationally, because of a long FOREIGN RULE WHEN country's resources were drained out or were choked.
From the date of effectiveness of CONSTITUTION,
long 40 years (upto1990 January)were kept for making the balance.
ALAS! the way CONGRESS led the country, 400 yeras given, the target WOULD NOT BE MET.
WITH RAMPANT CORRUPTION, ITS NOT POSSIBLE!
So, the S C has done wisely.
Another point is that the backward class has now shifted towards 'brahmins' by all means!
LET THE TRUTH BE PUBLISHED NOT HIDDEN!

what now ?
by Lokesh Jetty on Apr 23, 2007 07:25 PM  Permalink

as an iim aspirant i had been eagerly waiting for the results. the SC ruling is welcome but i'm afraid that arjun singh and co. will not give up so easily and will try to push the act through by hook or by crook. after all, all the political parties or united on this issue. i'm afraid that admissions may be further delayed as they try to find an alternate way. i really hope that the IIMs take a tough stand this time and prevent these petty politicians from playing with our lives.

Bad judgement again
by vijaya kumar on Apr 23, 2007 07:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Peoples should understand the UC judges repeatedly rejecting the lower peoples welfare. Even the parliament has passed the Law with full support. More than 50% of OBC's in the country but i think below 5% peoples only getting seats.

So peoples should think about the democratic theorems and should think about the lower level peoples to come forward. God only can help the lower class peoples and court ..... can support Lalo and Jayalalitha like peoples only

If so many years of reservation couldn't help, it means that the policy is defective. You need to give reservation and certainly to the deserving and the economically backwards.

The lower should be decided based on economic factors and not stupid caste rule. People from pooer background belonging open category are deprived of education due to this stupid quota system. The worst part is the quota system is followed even in Jobs. India is never going to move ahead if it continues. Abolish the caste based quota and start a economically backward quota.

kuch nahi dost hoga dost..the govt will have its say in the next term..this stupid politicians are creating a divide betweeen people based on caste. I am from open category and have witnessed the horros of this. One of my frnd from open category got 92% in HSC and had to go to some remote part of mumbai to do MBBS while another of my frnd belonging to reserved category got into the best Medical college in mumbai and that too with 50% marks. This reservation rule sucks big time

I Hope all round development from sections can bring better fortune for the country. Next, it is worth to give the best possible training to those who are expected to live within country, than those who Eat the resources of the country and fly away to Serve to the US, Europe, and so on. I hope you will appreciate the idea embedded in this kind of politics.

Another, thing is that you stop shouting the slogan that none will go to reserved category Doctors. Most of the Doctors who are taking care of the mass-fraction of population in the country are from OBCs or reserved class. Further, given better training, one can do the best.
Ex. A top class Heart specialist in the country known to me is from Reserved Class. Go and find the details. Hint, presently he is serving in Northern part of the country.

This is great news. Kudos to SC and long live Indian Judiciary. At least for the time being, It would stop UPA at centre to stop playing dirty politics based on caste.

The real India yet to see
by Raghavendra Melgiri on Apr 23, 2007 07:12 PM  Permalink

Its only the politician want to re-elect from their constituency, where people are so foolish thinking reservation will bring them up. In reality reservation will never help any backward class to come forward. Instead good education and tougher laws to combat discrimination. I have personally experienced discrimination I know how it feels but I never consider reservation will be the solution insted it will put OBC and other reserve people further back.
