Damn the Nuclear deal now. Wait for 18 months, and start negotiating afresh when BJP led NDA comes back to power.
by Bhaskar Chattopadhyay on Apr 22, 2007 05:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The audacious Pokhran-II took place when the whole world was opposed to it. But everybody fell in line within 12-18 months.

Everybody is worried that this disastrous UPA Govt will concede more grounds than what India should do.

My take is: damn the deal now. Wait for 18 months when BJP led NDA comes back to power. They will extract maximun from USA. And will never surrender 1 bit of national interest.

ITS CALL "PEACE OF MIND".

I was a voter of NDA when it came to power. However I lost faith after my country's foreign minister took terrorists and millions of dollars to Taliban led Afghanistan to release our hostages in a plane.Later on the same terrorists came back to india to kill more innocent people .The same money was used to fund those killings.I do not think NDA was tough headed as they projected to be judging their actions.Imagine Israel doing such a thing!!!The whole world must have sat back and laughed at our foolish deed.

Where was this coalition against terror during IA plane hijack? Taliban was backed by Pakistan, who in turn was backed by US, UK and China. When India re-traced the same terrorist in UK, UK police was not heeding Indian request to catch him. Same terrorists attacked USA and Europe. What comes around goed around.

Dear Mat: You were NOT a NDA supporter, you are just shedding croc tears here/

India do NOT have a national Policy like Israel where state will NOT deal with terrorists.

IF THAT DEAL IS EVER MADE, BJP WILL BE FIRST PARTY TO SUPPORT THAT.

We have a nicompooh UPA who even revoked POTA to win Muslim Vote.

We have a Govt who changed SIGNED A DEAL WITH JIHAD CENTRAL, i.e., PAKISTAN EQUATING IT WITH A TERROR VICTIM, WHILE THE WORLD KNOWS PAKISTAN IS A TERROR SPONSOR.

As far as terror is concerned, there is simply no comparison between BJP and Congress.

Only die hard Vatican worshippers may disagree because of Sonia G:)-

The problem US now faces is absence of political direction from India's end. Its evident when US official is quoted as ''..where we think we need to raise the level of dialogue to a POLITICAL LEVEL in order to move it forward''!

So, who will do that? A Prime Minister, who is a retainer of Gndhi-Nehru family, and had the audacity to tell Indians, "Rahul Gandhi is your future"?

A PM who undermines his own post?

Its not only US N-deal, India under UPA is frozen in time and unable to move forward either on China front or in Pakistan front.

Ideal Govt to deal with US on this N-issue would have been BJP led NDA Govt.

Ideal Govt to deal with US on this N-issue would have been BJP led NDA Govt.

They took momentous decision of doing Pokhran-II when the world was at odds against India, but within 12-18 months, everybody fell in line.

UPA is conceding more ground than what a NDA Govt would have conceded.

US is putting pressure on weak, indecisive UPA Govt to squeeze more.
by Bhaskar Chattopadhyay on Apr 22, 2007 05:33 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

US is trying to push pressure on UPA Govt who are weak. US's goal is to extract as much as it can. But present Govt is not only weak, its indecisive, sitting on the fence, and don't have guts to take any decision one way or other.

The Indian Express had a wonderful article 2 days back, where the commentetor detailed how China is frustated the slow progress. It went onto say, China is missing Vajpayee Govt!

Its one of the rare issues where BJP and CPIM speak in the same language. Nobody will accept India signing dotted line that it will not do any N-explosition in future. India will also not curtail its Civil as well as Nuclear programme neither it will allow US to intrude Indian facilities.

Playing God
by rajan bedi on Apr 22, 2007 05:27 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Fine let US play God then. US can do anything they want, but are bound by the consequences of their own action. India will be bound by its own also. Let's see after a few years, where our two mega/giga democracies have taken us... Very interesting indeed this India-US paradox.

Its in India's interest to toe the US line...India needs US business..all those years of kowtowing to Russia has brought India down to its heels...the Nuke deal dont mean much..get into US good books first..Its only the US that has the guts to take action against terrorists.

There is a limit to toe US line. India will never surrender its right to conduct N-test, or loose control over N-fuel cycle, or allow US to intrude its Military Nuclear programme.

Whoever does it will be thrown out from power within hours.

US do NOT take actions against terrorists. When it gets hurt, it takes action. Otherwise, it allows terrorism to continue as seen from Pakistan.

India is world's 3rd largest economy (PPP) now. And Its US's interest to get into India's good book for its own economic interest.

Mr Chattopadhya its high time u see facts..please remember the customer is always more important than the service provider..US can go to a number of emerging countries for all the service it gets from India...and 3rd largest economy or not India has to go a looooooonngggggggggggggg way ... lets do some Math....pick ANY 3 companies from the Dow Jones Industrial index (eg Microsoft, GE, GM )..add up their capitals and lo & behold its bigger than India's budget & Fgn currency reserves.. !!!!!

It can be equally said that it is India that allows terrorism to grow because it does nothing...even Bangladeshi Islamic radicals wreck havoc in India...the WBengal govt lets madressahs to spawn....try these things in US and you will see wat happens...

Its only India that did something abt terrorists in Pak and elsewhere. It got Pakis to catch terrorists like bin el Shibh thru Khalid sheik Mohammad..what did India do? diddly. That guy who was let lose from Kashmir was seen giving bhashan in Karachi the next day..India dont do nothing..Indians hv vry little stomach to even confront terrorists..The US on the other hand has seen no terror attackes since 911..on the other hand cartoon jihadists wreck havoc from London thru Delhi...

US nuclear business companies are also eager to exploit India, so they critizise US policy also from sometimes, i.e. after the 1998 sanctions on India. Don't forget India has been dealing with terrorism since middle ages, both in Islamic form and LTTE in Ceylon. That's why it took this terror so long to reach the West. Also there's nothing great in first sponsoring terror (USCIA aid to binLaden in 80's) and then trying to cover it up by launching war against terror, mostly in media only. What others do, is not always reported in Media, but doesn't mean there aren't any non-American heroes, they just don't show off, and nobody hears of them much.
