Sad day
by N Mendi on Apr 20, 2007 10:23 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I don't know why people are mixing different sets of emotions here.
GV, as Prof Loganathan was popularly known to his students, and Minal died in a tragic incident. It is a very sad day in the lives of their families. We should pray for their souls just like we did for others who have died tragically and untimely.
Their decision to come to US (as some called it green pastures, or to mint money) and to live in US has got nothing to with the tragic nature of their death. It is also not related to whether they were patriotic or not, whether govt chose to pay for airfare for family memebers or not, whether they contributed back to India or not (and even if they did, how'd you know they did or didn't).
Contribution of NRI to India can't be compared to sacrifices made by soldiers (for that matter nothing can be compared to their sacrifices). So, lets keep the matters separate.
Additionally, it doesn't matter if his family never visited to US before or whether he wanted to be cremated here has also nothing to do with his death.

Mendi ( by the way what sort of name is Mendi ? Are you from Meghalaya or Tripura Nagaland side ? Perhaps Mendi people live in Manipal ? Please educate us rediff readers ),
People are mixing different sets of emotion becaudse it is very mixed up issue. One, this Gobichettipalayam Loganathan is dead but it is not his fault, one Korean person doing the shooting. But it is not Korean person fault alone, because gun sold for $541 by the Blacksburg Gun Dealer. Then the Virginia Tech people granting F1 Visa to Cho. If no visa, then how he can shoot Gobichettipalayam ? So visa officer also come into picture. Finally our Government of India buying air ticket with the taxpayer money. Why ? Why not USA government picking up the tab ? Or we can do 50 50. Like that many question arise. That is why we are having amenable discussion. You are saying keep matters separate. Like that if you keep then nothing to discuss then we must close this Rediff Message Board and go home. So why the message board exist ?You please think about it Mendi.

get your facts right 'jor se gandmar'. The shooter was a Korean born naturalized US citizen. He was not on F1 visa. Preserve your fertile imagination for something better. And you do not KNOW about the name Mendi? You DO Not know about the name Mendi? You do not know about the name MENDI? I am flabbergasted!!

I think narrow mindedness and shallowness has taken over 'gandmar' and Mendi. You can only offer condolences for their poor parents who are Indians and a Indian has dies here. it doesn't matter who pays the money for their parents damn! And our tax payer's money is anyway's swindled by your brother politicians. We are not even talking abt it here. This article highlights how the professor worked hard to improve his life and how he was hard working and inspiration to others. Please only offer condolences to the departed and not talk about nation, money etc etc etc... please please it really hurts when we fall so looowww.

Please get back to first standard and understand the meaning of role model. In ths context Mr GVL was a role model in pursuing education with dedication, even though coming from a lower middle class family. He has helped many students and indeed awarded for it as well. If he is not a role model than who is ? Lalu Prasad or Sonia. It is better for Indian's to leave their motherland and struggle elsewhere instead of being slaves of Arjun singh or Sonia. And why has the meorator disabled the "report abuse" button, isnt this an abuse of deceased??? Scree you rediff

Why? Say..nobody can be a role model in minting money? Why should role models be only for education and sports? Finally its the money that counts in my opinion. Show me the money $$ baby!!!

Yesterday some idiots blamed he Professor not being patriotic
by R K on Apr 19, 2007 10:25 PM  Permalink

Yesterday some idiots were blogging in this very wesite about why he wanted to be cremated there and why he never took his parents to the US etc etc. Now they have got their answers.Having two kids who were born ad bred in the US it is natural for them to have their fathers mortal remains close to them but some of our wise country men were blaming the un patriotic profesor for his wish on being brried in the US. People in this country always jump he gun and come to conclusions on their own without knowing the facts. As for as the TN Govt funding his families trip to the US it is not a joy ride that these people are going to. And come to think of the jaunts that our political leaders take to fly for no apparent reason? Hypocrytes all. A good an is dead and wether he is Indian or not his parents are indian and we need to pray God to give them strength to overcome this at their ripe old age.

death is a wink away
by shiva on Apr 19, 2007 08:53 PM  Permalink

It is a tragedy for everyone. So many lives lost without any rhyme or reason. People cannot make any meaning to this tragic event. What about the dear ones who have lost all hopes by the action of a crazed crackpot.

We all should contemplate the meaning of our existence in this moment of helplessness. We should keep away all forms of negative thoughts and leave this world a little better place for all humans and others God has given to coexist with us in this beautiful world.

Heaven and hell rests with us. May God give the families of all affected by this untold tragedy the courage to live out their lives despite losing their loved ones.
