Indian Strategy?
by R Dev on Jun 14, 2007 12:53 PM  Permalink

Now that our close neighbour and frequent foe Pak is have internal difficulties, as a strategy, we (India) should be using this to resolve any and all probs with Pak once and for all...after all, the first rule of conflict is to attack when your enemy is weak.

I wonder if our so called think tank has caught on yet...

Reality Check
by Aditya on Apr 17, 2007 09:17 PM  Permalink

As much as I love the idea of democracy and capitalism which are essentially the matricies of my home (USA) and that of my country of origin (both my parents are Indian), I implore people to be realistic.
Democracy and responsible capitalism is something that is developed over many years social innoculation. The truth of the matter is that Pakistan has never really been a truly democratic nation. Even the times when it was "democratic" those terms usually ended in disaster which in turn brought along more problems and setbacks for the nation as a whole.
The Pakistan military on the other hand has so far been the only true stabilizing force for the nation. True, some of the dictators like Zia ul Haq have brought about a lot of misery to the populace, but atleast the nation has had some semblance of stability in those periods.

Now I am not a Musharraf fan by any means. Nor am I going to look beyond the fact that he is an egotistical sycophant who sees himself as the second coming of Jinnah or what have you. I do however respect the fact that he has made some very minor moves towards de-Islamizing the nation which at this point is it's biggest enemy.
Only relentless attempts at purging radicalism from most urban and suburban Pakistani societies will result in a stable nation which then may serve as a platform for a democratic movement. But for now, a benevolent autocrat is what makes most sense.

What Rubbish
by Vivek Agnihotri on Apr 17, 2007 12:14 PM  Permalink

This only goes on to say how foolish our politicians are and in what small worls they live in!
My only question to Mr Rahul Gandhi "the great grand son of father of modern India"is that whats the point if you and your family were intrumental in breaking Pakinstan in two when YOU COULD NOT EVEN MANAGE YOUR OWN COUNTRY AS ONE!! HALF OF KASHMIR IS ALREADY WITH PAKISTAN AND CHINA AND THE REMAINING HALF IS ALREADY UP FOR GRABS !!

Yes, these things do influence the illitrate and backward classes but hardly influence the litrates. BUT IRONY is that its the literate who take part in blogs and these discussion forums and do not practice their rights to vote, on the contrary the people who get influnced by these silly unwarranted remarks go out to the booths and cast their votes and bring IDIOTS to power.
Long live literacy in India.

Mr. Mir, please accept my humble congratulations for the excellent services rendered by your media in favour of the general masses in general and truth in particular. I watched the video footage of the attack on your office by security forces of pakistan and was worried about the safety of you all but i am relieved that not only you all defied that balant act but stood firm on your ground and supported truth. Hats off to you and all your colleages.

India and Pakistan both have no future
by arun singh on Apr 16, 2007 04:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There is almost no difference between a military dictator in Pakistan and an elected government in India. The primary objective of military dictatorship in Pakistan is to serve the interests of its electorate (Army). Similar consideration is in India also and the electorates here are poorly or no educated, bigoted, superstitious masses of India. It is easy to guess what can a civilian government do here which has to keep such gentlemen happy. To sum up, India and Pakistan, both countries are destined to remain in perpetual poverty. Stop worrying, Mr. Mir.
