Literate people are not voting
by sunil kumar on Apr 13, 2007 12:21 PM  Permalink

It is very disturbing fact that very few number of so called literate people are taking part in voting process. See in recent Delhi election only 30 % turnover from country capital. One survey indicated most of those voted were from so called less educated group.
So does literacy matters in our electoral process....

CORRUPTION CURRUPTION... ARE U NOT CORRUPT
by sai on Apr 13, 2007 12:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Taking money from others to do a favor when you yourself are paid to do that job is bribery and being corrupt.... NOW, FROM THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE POSTED MESSAGES ON THE BOARD, CROSS YOUR HEARTS AND TELL ME IS THERE ANY1 WHO HAVE NOT GIVEN BRIBE AT ANY POINT IN TIME........ When the train is full and you badly want a resv. birth, you give bribe to the TTE to get a seat... When you dont get a municipal connection tap water, you bribe the municipal coorperation employee to get your work done fast...... To obtain a driving lisence from the RTO, you give him bribe to avoid a test drive or even to get ur liscence speedily........ When a police man catches you for not carrying your vehicle papers/driving without helmet, or driving without wearing seatbelt, u pay him not to take you or ur vehicle/bike to the station....
NOT ONLY THESE, THERE ARE MANY MANY OTHER THINGS IN DAILY LIFE WHERE YOU JUST CANNOT GET AWAY WITHOUT BEING CORRUPT OR PAYING BRIBES. WHEN U PAY BRIBE, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT IT......... FIRST CLEAN URSELF BEFORE TALKING ABOUT CLEANINESS IN THE SOCIETY... BE CLEAN TO THEN TRY TO CLEAN OTHERS..

sorry if i hurt any1... i am afraid, this is India right now.... but still

Truth is always bitter but you have to face it.
Now Come and classify different kinds of corruption. In todays society I think all things cant be put in just two groups . Legal or illegal. God or bad. ethical or unethical. We need to upgrade our concept of what is right and what is wrong. Not every legal act is ethical or good , and required for smooth functioning .........

Bravo Sai!!
You touched the nerve.

We all are part of the system. We expect too much from others but we prefer to remain ignorant from within.

How many of us think that did I pay my dues to mother India?

Don't worry my friend. Even if u choose world class economist as PM, he is licking sonia's chappals. These less educated are down to earth at least. So don't break your head for these people. Actual rulers are IAS officers. MLA will only sign on piece of paper. They are better than Manmohan who let all proud indians down.

Democracy
by biju nair on Apr 13, 2007 12:13 PM  Permalink

Democracy is the rule of Majority. It is not relevent whether the majority is educated or illiterate. It is not relevent whether the majority is cultured or un-cultured. It is not relevent whether the majority is good or bad.

Out of 100 if 51 are blind then our ruler will be blind. That is the beauty of democracy.

Democracy is suitable to a nation where more than 90 % of population is aware what is good and what is bad for the long term national interest. Literacy doesn't meen enlightment or understanding rather most criminals and terrorist are educated. Citizens should be informed and inteligent enough to understand their interests and national interest in a long term.

Even in US where they have per capita income many fold of an average Indian they are not yet perfected in Democracy.

What about India and what about a backword state like UP.

Illiterate candidates are very less
by sunil kumar on Apr 13, 2007 12:12 PM  Permalink

Going by democratic norm of representation,we have very less number of so called illiterate candidates in election foray.
Illiterate adult mass constitutes aprox. one third of India's population . They should be given proportionate representation.
Democracy is government of people for people by people.....

Leaders should do deeds for everyone and every community so that all are benefitted. They must work selflessly and always think of the country and the people. Are they doing this ?

canditates up for election
by Ashok Gupta on Apr 13, 2007 12:07 PM  Permalink

Any one can stand for elections and it is up to the people whom they elect. Should not the onus and responsibility be on those casting their vote ? Agree that to-days politics is forefront and rotten and no-bodys realy knows the good from the bad - ultimately its the country and the people who will pay the price to these deshs bakhts.

Education is not the sole criteria...
by Rangasamy Vijay on Apr 13, 2007 12:03 PM  Permalink

Education is not the sole criteria in evaluating a candiadate. Instead his clean record, commitment to public service, clear manifesto for his constituency are the prime requirements. We had selfless great national leaders in the past like Kamaraj who contributed a lot for the development of the nation and public service.

Most dangerous/corrupt politicians are highly educated
by sunil kumar on Apr 13, 2007 12:03 PM  Permalink

Go through past events. One can see most of corrupt and notorious politicians are highly educated. More educated a corrupt politicians pose more danger to society.
If an illiterate politician is corrupt he is not as dangerous and highly educated politician.
Think about it.....
