I feel the urge to inquire all these great indians here proclaiming they read this splendid journalistic account as a book, and it only verifies what they've known since forever: how morbidly discounted pakistani society is, and how magnificently communal india is; have they read maximum city by suketu mehta?? if india is really that solicitous towards various religions and its an all encompassing society; then how did the massacre in bombay came about, how about gujrat. the book vividly chronicles, how gangs after gangs of shiv-sena influenced hindus burned scores of muslims, and when asked about the sin a muslim committed to suffer a brutality as such, the answer came forth, "his biggest sin was that he was a muslim," even a muslim army major who was bringing food and medicinal assistance towards communities was burned along with his truck, abated by bombay police. Mr. Bal Thackrey publicly idolises Hitler, and have iterated numerously that muslims should be treated just as jews were in Nazi Germany. How come such a hate mongering monster is idolized in bombay?? I belong to karachi, and i know it unequivocally that political parties in karachi when rose against pakistani govt. were unceremoniously helped by Indian govt. specifically Mosad, in whatsoever way needed. I don't intend to claim that pakistani govt. are a group of saints at any imaginable stretch; these are political games played by every country to gain strategic importance, including pakistan, india, afghan, iran, china, russia, and of course usa; sadly bourgeois humans in such games are only merited as ambiguous numbers, that is the depth humanity has desecrated to. Anyway, we all should first look at our own selves, sanctifies our own souls and streets, before pointing our fingers towards others.

Irfan, tell me with some facts how are minorities treated in Pakistan better than the minorites being treated in India....you are talking about Gujarat and Mumbai riots..? you think hindus were not massacred during those riots...let me tell you one thing...what news you get or were getting during those days in pakistan was filtered news and not complete facts...does pakistani government have reservation policy for minorities....?? Does pakistani government provide subsidy to minorities for annual pilgimage to their holy places....?? Let me tell you the major difference in the attitude of Pakistani and Indian people...In India, nobody openly asks what is your religion, because the person may get the feeling of belonging to the minority....but same is not the case in Pakistan...that is the level of maturity Indian people have....Pakistan's majority muslim people need to first rise above their religion and accept the fact that there are other holy religions apart from Islam that talk of harmony and tolerance...then talk about the treatment being metted out to minorities in India.....

Irfan, Your comments are practical. However, regarding the Shiv Sena and RSS and their deeds to our muslim community in India should/needs to be viewed through the glass of history. All these extremist hindu political entities are a knee jerk phenomenon of the centuries old rule by minority, and if you add to that the muslim appeasment by the so called liberals for political purposes, you may be able to see why and how tragedies like Gujarat happens. Even today, almost no one, including the so called secular hindu politicians, talk about the displaced pandits of Kashmir, who were systematically tortured, abused and driven out of their homeland, mostly by the Pakistan backed terrorists and their cronies in the Srinagar valley. It would be wrong to think that this will go unnoticed. While the carnage in Gujarat was happening, no muslim country, including Saudi Arabia and the likes, raise any noise. Any idea why?

Abhik RayChaudhury,
You can very well verify the facts before claiming that RSS is an extremist organization. We are typically product of british education and our great colonial media and definitely lack CRITICAL THINKING abilities. We are just not trained to use our FRONTAL CORTEX effectively.....
If there is one orgnozation in this UNIVERSE which works for Human Good..it is the RSS....
If you donot believe me than go and do some research....ofcourse not through our ENGLISH media....mind you ENGLISH media in India has a official policy not to report yeoman's service done by any Hindu Orgnizaton because they get FUNDS from MISSONARIES abroad.

Irfan,
I dont know much about your claims about Mr. Bal Thackery, but one thing is true, we as Indians, (atleast hindu Indians) what ever internal disputes we have unite against Pakistan (muslims) period. I think it is the same on the other side.

Oh Yeah.. Let's start counting how many times US as "stepped-in" in support of India.. You stupid a$$ hole if you don't know history or diplomatic affairs don't open your ignorant mouth.. I know you are a Pakshitani.. It's primarily because of active US support that Pakshitan still exists in the face of earth. The day US looks the other way.. all you Pakshitanis would be vapourised..If you think your nuclear missles will save you.. you are day dreaming.. Count your days boys...
This is the only book written by a Pakiastani journalist depeicting some of the facts which have always been hidden from the West, or maybe they turned blind eye to it till it doesnt hurt their intrest.Everybody knows from where these terrorists and the pakis are getting their weapons from. The question is why is so much hatred for India in the pakistani mentality. The truth is not very far...pakistani governmet is JEALOUS of our progress and it wants to keep the pressure of terrorism on Indians to tell them that secularism begets violence. It wants to prove the theory of two nations right. It will keep doing all evil things to India cos its whole existence depends upon this. India who produces, manufacture, has its own industries, has its own food to feed its people, is in a position to give aid to countries in need, including pakistan. On contrary pakistan is the begging bowl of Asia, its money comes through the booty it collects by caputring taleban and al qaeda and trading them to USA. Its money comes from diverting the kashmir earthquake fund for pakistan. This scumbag country lives on spreading hatred for other religions, thats pakistan.
well said mr.ashish.. as an Indian we dont have any problem with any religions.. or community.. bcoz if we see the history.. we can see that India is a country where people from different parts of the world came and settled here.. Huns, Barbarians, Shoke, Mughals, British.. to name a few.. and India has its own glory of being one with diversity.. so the only problem is with pak.. and they know how to make cracks within us.. they took the advantage of being Muslims and trying to take Indians Muslims in confidence.. and to be very sorry.. they are successful to some extent..
so.. if we want to fight terrorism.. Indian Muslims have a huge responsibility.. they have come forward against pak and make the history..
every religion teaches human to live happily and decently.. and that the purpose of every religion.. yes.. when its time to protect ourselves.. human took the path of defense.. but i dont believe that anywhere in Koran its written that u must take a bomb on ur back.. kill people who are not related to anything.. and u r a great Muslim.. its nothing like that.. few people are taking advantage spreading all this kind of staffs among young, dynamic and emotional Muslims in the world.. and bcoz of that innocent Muslims are being hated in some parts and they are getting complexes and the thing is continuing.. so who can stop this?.. only Muslims.. and which Muslims?? Indians ... bcoz they are the best Muslims in the world.. bcoz they are in India.. they celebrate Diwali and X-Mass.. they are staying with non-Muslims for more then 1000 yrs.. they know how to respect other religion.. they know their feelings.. they know how to be happy with all the people..
we all know Rabindranath Tagore.. he had a long beard.. but it doesnt mean that anyone with the long beard can a Rabindranath Tagore.. so being Muslims is not the highest criteria of being brother of any other Muslims in the world.. for whom u can trouble people near you with whom u spend the life.. no one does that.. and if some religious leader is telling a young boy that u have to kill other religion people of your country for the sake of same religion people of some different country, place .. then that leader should be slapped by the boy.. and once it will happen they will stop saying these non-sense.. we all were born here.. our fathers, fore-father were born here.. we eat Indian soil.. we drink Indian water.. when we are ill doctor dont ask the religion.. when we played when kid.. we didnt ask religion to our dear friends.. so why now??

You are right Raj, I have several verses in quran encouraging violence on non muslims very specificaly.
On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. (The Cow: 161 )
Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. ( The Cow: 15 ) Oh ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers and let them find harshness in you. (Repentance: 123)
Hussain is a common name in India because of the overwhelming presence of muslims here. . However, as you yourself noted, hindus have been decimated in pakistan. Thus, Vijay is not such a 'ubiquitous' name there as Hussain is here.

i think he was talking about the way it is pronounced... and i think he's right, because even americans (who, by the way, tend to pronounce it entirely wrong), actually spell is right the first time! funny, isn't it?
