NPT allows iran to enrich uranium, however no person in its right mind thinks that iran will 'not' make a bomb. US is all tied up in Iraq and other places. So i think iran will enrich a lot of uranium , build a bomb then "withdraw" from NPT via national interest clause of NPT that allows for such withdrawals, and declare itself a nuke weapon state on the lines of NKorea. I am not sure what US/UN can do to prevent this sequence of events .
It takes 1500 centrifuges working 1 year continuosly to make 60 kg of U235. Iran says it has 50000 centrifuges so :- 1500:365 :: 50000: X X= 1500/50000 *365 = 11 days . If you add 5 woorking days to encase the U235 and make a 'dirt' tactical Nuclear bomb. Ths could be Transported by their Shahab 3 missile having a range of 2000 KM. They can in effect hit Israel on 25 April 2007. This would provoke an immediate annihilatory resonse by Israeli, totally nuking Iran and to an extent neighbouring Pakistan. Pak will strike a comprehensive nuclear attack against Israel, forcing America to retaliate. Pakistan will hit India , causing Russia to get in the conflict. And all out world war 3 with total destruction of the world by te end of next month. How does that look... We all are going to die by next month. I didn't even had sex till now.And so has so many of us. I have a plan but. You give me 5000 Billion dollars and 50000 US and European troops to dispose and I can prevent WW 3. With Iran defying the international voices and sanctions, US, its allies, and UN are all going to be in a difficult spot.
Iran is a powerful nation, in terms of Oil resources, and its influence on the neighboring muslim countries.
Attacking Iran could spark something as disastrous as a multi-country war, which would be seen by muslims as "Islam VS West". This could destabilise the oil industry across the globe. Moreover, Iran is not a weak nation like Iraq, which US could crush in 1 month. It has the 8th biggest defence force in the world, and the IRG whose head count is not known.
From US perspective, it is quite obvious that the next step for Iran would be making nuclear weapons, which they will be able to do in 2 yrs or so !

US should attack ... are u kidding me ... why should US not have attacked India ... The only country to be irresponsible in the US of nuclear bomb is US so if anyone should not have the bomb it is US and not Iran .... Iran should have a bomb and it should be given to each country to tell them that no US or anyone can threaten or bomb them
Cut all the b.s., humans are naturally out for their best interest (sometimes with the exception of family and close friends). Nations are no different. I don't think anyone is right or wrong in this situation and I can see both sides of the arguement.
Given the United State's brazen attitude to attack Iraq without the consent of the U.N., I cannot blame Iran for wanting to arm themselves with nukes as a means of defense and future bargaining power with countries such as the U.S. and Britian.
On the opposite side of the coin, I would fully expect the U.S. to oppose nukes in Iran and expect them to stage a premptive military strike if they feel the nukes could be used in an attack against America in the future.
I think it's a matter of what side of the coin you fall on. As an American, I fully admit I have my best interest (and those I care about) at heart. As a result, America should take out the current regime in Iran and erradicate their nuclear program.

"if they feel the nukes could be used" is a dangerous one ... if feeling is what determines it all well why not feel the same way for indian bomb? after all it is a different country and so CAN attack .... if one starts killing other person because it FEELS the other can use there is going to be chaos .... and if we have to consider facts it is only US that has used the bomb ever so the whole world should FEEL only US will use the bomb and hence should be rid of it
Iran had 15 British personnel in their capture. Just with one sentence from Tony Blair that either return them peacefully or face harsher measures, the Iranians were scared and released them. THey are no good people. Cowards of the first order, they can only launch suicide attack. If they had any guts, they should have argued with britain. but they did not have that guts. soon we will see that iran has given up its nuclear programme also. it will need just one growl from bush and one bark from blair
a big triumph was the usa stopping the nazi dictatorship... a big mess was the us forcing isreal into existence without proper grounds. a big triumph was attempting to defend the usa against afganistan terrorists after 9/11... a big mess was invading iraq without proper grounds. the usa simply needs to be more clear-headed and stop behaving like an 18 year old who hasn't learned how to control his power urges.

I agree with you. Maybe a more balanced President, whether McCain or Obama will act with maturity but also toughness. If rogue states are allowed nuclear weapons, the world would be a more dangerous place than it is now.
if iran's intentions were for 'peaceful' nuclear technology then why did it hide its nuclear program from the world for the past 15 years? basically it wants to nuke israel. but even israel will retaliate ferociously

Why India conducted Nuclear Test Secretly in APJ Abdul Kalaam's tenure, does it mean that India had intentions to bomb Pak ?? All these activities are kept secret for various reasons..Do you have any idea on how many Nuclear weapons US has ??? Power should be distributed, everybody has right to advance in Peaceful way..No manipulation required

Well do not get into who called what ... if u push someone to the brink he is going to say all things... i respect iran a lot who is standing tall against the US stupidity ... India needs to learn and not be submissive in nuclear deal ... negotiate hard and get the most ... dont be submissive in everything ... grow big be self confident cause the history will judge the present
Bush went to war for non-existent weapons of mass destruction (WMD). He paved the way for killing 6,50,000 innocent peoples. What it shows their ill-minded american supremacy. They want to be big brother for all , for this they can kill infinte number of peoples. American presidents always talk about Democracy , but what they did in Iraq they hace their own government in the name of Iraq people. What i am saying if a world need peace means Ameican Fogein affairs have to loimited , it can be done by standing against , even indian position like not getting into any important matter is also indirectly encourage america. What we people of india have to do is we have to unite against American Foregin afairs.. We have to stand against America just like Iran. America is land of oppurtunity no one denies it. Because of their $$$$ we wont allow them to kill others life o rights. Pls dont get into Muslim/Christian/hindu issues atleast for a while.

I don't get it Why in the world are you worried about the Muslim Suffering in Iraq/Palestine,just because you get super attention here and anywhere . If you are so very interested in the upliftment of the Muslims , there are many in India to take care of . So Kindly take interest in empowering your brothers here ,rather than looking for cheap publicity . Secondly We all agree the Mr Saddam Hussien had to be dethroned from Iraq , By the Looks of the celebration I believe that Iraqis were happy with it . I cannot understand why people blame Americans for the internal fighting in Iraq ( Most the fight is due to the rivalry between the Sunnis and Shias ) . This is unfortunate , The US has always maintained that It wanted to get out as soon as the suituation is stable . Now it is responsiblity of the people living in Iraq to maintain peace ,which they never seems to be interested in . So plz stop propagating false statements here , and think constructively for onnce in your life
