Remember the Office of Profit Bill he signed mutely. One of the Biggest Shame of Indian Parliament. The power hungry politicians of Congress and Left ganged up, they were not ready to forego their chairs of power and money. They shed all ideolagical pretence and sent the bill a second time to Mr. Kalam and he signed !! Sonia Gandhi shamelessly took her office of profits after resigning and again getting reelcted as MP!!!
But Murthy could be different, but even he is not a 'Sheshan'

I think you are not well versed with the constitution which makes the President look like a head of the state, with actual powers in the hands of the wily MPs. Poor fellow, he cannot reject any bill twice. he is forced to sign the bills once it comes back from the parliament, with or without changes made by him.

lakshmi, u r totally right .....kindly go thro my submission also , My personal opinion is that Mr.Murthy should not accept the offer being Prez of India....he comes from very literate background and It will be too difficult for him to get out best out of him because of Indian Democratic system where most of the M.Ps are either illetrates or caste-ridden... his output will not be as same as he is currently doing....if at all Mr.Murthy's services have to be taken he should be made Dy.Chairman , Planning Commision or he should head some commitee on economic reforms something like that.....If Mr.Kalam accepts second tenure then thats the best in current scenario otherwise next name comes to my mind is Sh.Bhairon Singh Shekhawat who has great experience behind him . He has remarkably convened Rajya Sabha and whatever duties assigned to him...President of India Post is not some C.E.O post , it is by and large constitutional post which is governed by Constitution Of India . As we all know our constitution has lost its sheen because of varied reasons . Most of the powers in India are held by P.M not the president. Mr.Murthy is a simple man and surely he would not cherish any assignment which he will feel suffocated after sometime because of limitations which comes with such post . He can be best suited for Finance Minister / Cabinet minister for IT & telecommunications of India as well. If at all Mr.Murthy's services have to be taken then it should not be waistage of his potential , it is my firm opinion.
THATS WHAT I M TRYING TO SAY...WHY SHOUD INTELLIGENT MINDS LIKE A.P.J OR mR.mURTHY ACCEPT SUCH POSTS WHERE THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO....PREZ IS BIND BY L.S / R.S RESOLUTIONS.....PREZ OF INDIA POST IS MEANT FOR POLITICIAN WHO HAS BY N LARGE REMAINED CLEAN FROM DIRTY POLITICS OF INDIA, THERE ARE FEW I M SURE THOSE CAN FIT THE MANTLE BEING PREZ.
I agree that nation needs a strong representative and that Murthy would be the best suitable considering his exposure to various fields. But lets not make a news out of nothing...... it was merely a comment and nothing more...... Personally i wud like him to be the President.
Since President of India is a rubber stamp in the hands of polititions, there will be virtually no difference if N.R.N or xyz holds the highest office.
so far, what i've seen the president post is just a honour. kalam is not able to use all his talent or convert his talent to a great extent in this post. india hasn't benefit much of kalam's intelligence and talent. so whoever comes to this post is just a honour, their talent or knowledge is not going to be useful.
In last 5 yrs. Kalam very well understand Indian Politics and the way Political Party works and behave. So in My view Mr.Kalam should continue with President Chair and request Mr.Murthy as Honorary & Official Advisor for Mr.Kalam.
