I believe that appointing NRN to the highest office in India will set a bad precedence.. he is basically a businessman and what ever credits he has, i donot think he will not have the stature to be the first citizen of the country.. moreover his appointment will make other businessmen to run for the president's office and will bring down the esteem of president's office. LET US PLEASE NOT APPOINT ANY BUSINESSMAN AS A PRESIDENT... NOW AND IN FUTURE
I think any retiared judge of suprem court will be better for this post . Because they are very intelectual and know how to oppose the decision taken by GOVERMENT for vote bank politics .

>> To become a President, a candidate does not >> need public opinion. Public does not have any >> direct say in electing the President of >> India.
#1 Increase in the Powers of the President (amending the Constitution)
#2 Remove unnecessary posts like Governors (lots of useless expenditure for these puppet posts!!). At least we can save a $billion here!!
#3 Go for the fixed ministers in Central Govt - example only 12 Ministers under PM & another 12 as Ministers of States (let these asses really work hard & hard - for decades they have looted & enjoyed the people's blood!!). Similarly, every state should have fixed number of Ministers!!!
#4 Let people have the power to choose President!! (This needs another Constitutional amendment).
Plus, there should also be a balance between PM & President & Chief Justice of India (must go hand in hand - from the powers derived from the amended Constitution as mentioned in my point #1!!)
In india the president is for giving the public lectures, opening ceromanies, flag hosting on republic and independance days, and offcourse causing lots of disturbance to public when visiting any city by traffic jams etc.
and y nmurthy all the above said work can be done by anyone like vijay maliya, amitabh bachan and in future we can also nominate the personalities like malika sherawat etc.
All the best india.. once a very wise man said "As the public so will be the ruler".
President's role in India is more cosmetic than effective. Narayanamurthy - long been a go getter and a no-nonsense man in SW projects, will find it more a punishment. However forthright a President of India might be - he still have to play a second fiddle to the CEO of this country - i.e. the PM. (There can be no better examples than Mr. Rajendra Prasad and Dr. Radhakrishnan - both were stalwarts in their own right yet they had to toe the line of Pandit Jawarlal Nehru.) Better leave politics to politicians lest the country will be robbed off a few good men like Narayanamurthy.
Remember the Office of Profit Bill he signed mutely. One of the Biggest Shame of Indian Parliament. The power hungry politicians of Congress and Left ganged up, they were not ready to forego their chairs of power and money. They shed all ideolagical pretence and sent the bill a second time to Mr. Kalam and he signed !! Sonia Gandhi shamelessly took her office of profits after resigning and again getting reelcted as MP!!!
But Murthy could be different, but even he is not a 'Sheshan'
And Murthy has vast business interests, the politicians will be able to blackmail him.

>> Kalam was useless as President.
OK. What about you then? People expressing one's views (on forums in the name of free Democracy blah blah) doesn't mean that one has every right to assassinate the person (character, etc). Better grow up!!
>> But Murthy could be different, but even he is >> not a 'Sheshan'
How come you people are so ignorant? Whoever comes as President - there is HARDLY ANY SCOPE for them to involve into the matters of the Govt (PM & his gang Parliament)!!! Even with this limited scope - APJ did his best (by returning bills, going to Siachen, etc)!!!
BTW, I like Seshan too (but is he in the race?).
>> And Murthy has vast business interests, the >> politicians will be able to blackmail him.
Are you going with wildest dreams of your life time???

As per Indian constitution Murthy, if Present is OK with any Bill, he can reject only once. If the same bill is placed before him, there is no other go - he/she has to sign.
Those wanting Dr Kalam for the second term as President of India, please go to www.BringKalamBack.com to register, confirm and vote. 1000s of votes have been cast already. Regards, Pramodh
The time is right to start a tradition of non-politician Presidents. We should reward people from other walks of life. Mr. Murthy should be right choice. Common man to highest post.
