Murthy as prez
by gaurang soni on Apr 10, 2007 04:16 PM  Permalink

May be Mr. Kalam wants him and all of India wants him, but is he himself (Mr. Murty) is interested in job or not, going by his past statements about politics, I think he is least interested in it..
But , I do personally wish him to be next prez.

NRN as president
by Madhusudhan N.R. on Apr 10, 2007 03:29 PM  Permalink

He is known for his social service activities apart from founding one of the great IT companies. So, he has the right mix of skills, intelligence and compassion. However, my serious doubt is whether he would be given a free hand by the politicians. He may not care to be a rubber stamp. Kalam, despite his greatness, has only had a subdued tenure and could not force any issue.

I doubt if NRN would be comfortable in such a scenario. Remember, how he threw the Bangalore Airport chairmanship at Deve Gowda's face when the latter questioned his contribution??

I feel the politicians will also be uncomfortable with him as Prez...

Is response to Dr.Susana's response..
by Sukhoi on Apr 10, 2007 01:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dr. Susana wrote.....

"Sukhoi I think you are the earliest version SU16 not the current SU 47 ! Well I never asked if you had a doctorate from MIT or not ( by the way there is also a MIT in chennai be more specific) ,The question is NRN is not a doctorate compared to our present president who is a doctorate in aero-nautical engineering.

Well that gives a cutting edge in understanding miliatry things etc as he is the chief of armed forces ( even aircrafts which might be ur area of interest I presume -sukhoi)

Let NRN remain a top computer guru and inspire and nourish many talents like you !

Though my posting was a little on the sarcastic side the point , NRN might not be the right candidate for President it requires more than Computers I am sure you would agree with me - IIT/MIT boss ! "

Here is my response:-

>> I think you are the earliest version SU16 not
>> the current SU 47

Hahaha, you keep thinking like that.....Su16 has never been made!! Only Su15 (Flagon) & Su17 (Fitter) were made (production models if I remember correctly!!) And nopes, am not the developmental Berkut (Su47) & it's not current one. There is another one which is currently developed (think u dunno)....am the fifth generation technology PAK-FA (jointly developed by Sukhoi Design Bureau & Mikoyan Gurevich (MiG) which would rival the F-35 (JSF), fifth generation US fighter!!)

>> Well I never asked if you had a doctorate
>> from MIT or not

I never intended show up, that was not my intension (even now you are so arrogant, I care less!!). I got upset for each & every silly reason IIT-ians are being targeted, this attitude is highly deplorable!

>> by the way there is also a MIT in chennai be
>> more specific

Hehehe, have a look at here what Indians have messed up:-

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/47498183.cms
http://www.boston.com/business/technology/articles /2005/06/27/exporting_technology/

Now, what u say? What is that you are taking proud of (I would have been more happy if Media Labs Asia has gone to Japanese as per their earlier plans!! They are really much better than us, huh!!)

FYI, was from MIT Labs in Cambridge, MA (to be more specific!!!)

>> The question is NRN is not a doctorate
>> compared to our present president who
>> is a doctorate in aero-nautical engineering.

That's what am asking you - so what? How would that make him less or more? You don't want to respect people like NRN & show the arrogance in front of people like me (by saying I didn't ask you, etc.). What do you (people) think of yourself? What is that you wanted to prove here? Somnath Chatterjee is the right person??

>> Let NRN remain a top computer guru and
>> inspire and nourish many talents like
>> you !

Sigh! You got me wrong here - NRN doesn't nourish me!! Do you know I did meet Dr. Kalam when I was a kid?? Check out my response here, don't wanna type here again:-

http://www.rediff.com/news/2006/oct/10msg1.htm

Well, my first inspiration is my parents (don't wanna tell you why, else you would say am showing off!!!). Other inspirations are the great people like Ayrton Senna (great person whom I met him at Suzuka Circuit, Japan during my plus one days of 1988 - he set up a Guinness Record with 8 wins in that year!!). Currently I admire & get inspired by Valentino Rossi, etc in sports. There are many more like Jack Welsh, Sigmund Fraud, etc (can't type my own autobiography here!!)

>> even aircrafts which might be ur area of
>> interest I presume

Yep, I do have a CPL!! (started small at Hyderabad Flying Club in my teens, carried till Florida to get a license!!!)

>> Though my posting was a little on the
>> sarcastic side the point

That's my point, one doesn't need to be sarcastic about such people!! After all, these guys are much better than those (many) morons who are sitting in the Parliament !!! (hardly 10% politicians are sincere & hardworking)

>> NRN might not be the right candidate for
>> President it requires more than Computers
>> I am sure you would agree with me - IIT/MIT
>> boss !

OK. Let's take a stand here - we debate with a new thread - Why is NRN not the right candidate? Who is the right candidate?? (less the damn sarcasm & inflammatory attitude!!)

Or do you want me to explain in your own language @ presume you a Medical Doctor - now me won't show off how do I know Medical stuff (can even debate with you about surgical techniques & methods....hehe!!).

Lastly, never take the people who come to forums for granted - we don't need to talk in thin air by wasting the valuable time!!!

Note: Posting here again due to difficulty in tracking the old posts!! Apologies for duplication ;-)

If at all we want to make good use of NM, Soniaji must step down and ask NM to head the NPA jamellla.

We have no right to reduce a citadel like NM to just a wax statue.

Person to be a president of india should be a man of atmost honesty. Naturally buisinessmen
do not fall in this category. Hence Mr.Murthy does not have this calibre.

Why we need Murthy's as PRESIDENT - Shobha De
by Sharan Patil on Apr 10, 2007 11:54 AM  Permalink

Kaun Banega President? How about a bona fide crore-pati? I'm serious. N R Narayana Murthy is the right man for the country's top job. He has the time (after retiring from Infosys); the right profile (it may not be as photogenic as Amitabh Bachchan's) and has an even better left one (man of the masses and all that). His credentials can't be questioned.

The rest of the world has heard of him and respects his contribution to India's economy. He is honest, self-made and courageous. Outspoken when he needs to articulate a position. Discreet when it comes to courting the media. He's sensible, progressive, and responsible while dealing with key issues.

His personality is nondescript. He could be anyone. His views on women are worth quoting: "There should be gender inclusive policies, adequate support systems and comprehensive maternity policies for women.

There should be a technology infrastructure drive enabling women to work from home or through satellite offices, when needed, operating on flexible work schedules, especially during pre- and post-natal periods." When was the last time someone whose voice matters, spoke so eloquently on the subject? For that alone, he gets the vote of the women of this country.

Murthy may not be charismatic, but he sure is enigmatic. So far, one does not know his political affiliations, which makes his neutral stand a plus point. His appointment will meet with approval, regardless of party politics and partisan lobbying. We need a man who can inspire our youth.

With India booming, and IT being the 'It factor' driving this boom, Murthy's stature as the undisputed godfather of the industry, will enhance the role played by the President in popular imagination. The present occupant of Rashtrapati Bhavan is a iconic figure adored by all. His replacement will have to be someone remarkable, but in a different way. Murthy fits the bill perfectly.

Bold and uncompromising, the man's clarity of thought is as impressive as his modesty. Does he have the all-important 'wow' factor? No, not if you compare him to someone voted 'The Star of the Millennium', by demented movie fans worldwide.

How does anybody compete with 'The Voice?' Can Murthy take on 'Sexy Sam' in a slug-test? You must be kidding. While the Big B has shrewdly bowed out much before the battle began, calling the proposition "absurd", someone smart had already planted the well-timed seed in people's minds by then.

The Murthys, as a couple, come as an attractive package deal. Sudha has independently carved out a niche for herself. She writes bestsellers and is open to acting. She has a naughty twinkle in her eyes, wears lovely silk saris and is a people person.

Her husband can certainly learn a thing or two about the 'touchy feely' aspects of people management from her. Murthy's reticence is compensated

With all my due respects to Mr.Murthy !!
by S on Apr 10, 2007 11:11 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mr.Murthy had always been extremely lucky. all his achievements and successes in life can be attributed to his luck more that his caliber and talent.

He had married a lady who was more educated, earning more than him, better looking than him, after all that he made her sit at home [that is a different story altogether]

He set up a company just when IT was booming and also when the country's economic policies were getting changed rapidly thanks to Mr.PV Narasimha rao and Mr.Manmohan Singh. Infosys made best out of it.

Infosys is not a brain child of Murthy alone, there were people like Nandan Nilakeni and Phaneesh murthy , without whom it would not have been possible.

So who knows even now he may become President and run away with all laurels .. after all blame it on his luck again.

If Murthy can be candidate for president why cannot Mr.Premji and Mr.Ratan tata be ????
