According to me country need leaders from Industrialists , so need to scrap all political parties/leaders. I will be happy to see industrialists for the post of PM and other ministry, but not for the post of Prez as this post does not hv enough power for decision making.
What is the fun in having a well qualified and experienced corporate CEO as the Prez of our country, where Prez himself does not have any power to drive the country ?
What India needs now is to abolish the entire political and electoral system and run the country as a CORPORATE under President's Rule. Only then a person like Mr. Murhty would be effective. The ministries should be held by functionally qualified and experienced persons appointed through a rigorous selection process. Each appointed minister should have respective annual performance targets (KPT/KRA). This country will remain backward if we allow corrupt leaders getting elected to ruling positions using muscle or money power. Ban all political parties. Make all politicians earn their own livelihood like common man. Let all educated people understand that in order to elevate our country to a socially & economically strong nation the need of the hour is "CORPORATE GOVERNANCE" and not political governance. Lets all rise and send our politicians to hell and welcome a new system of governance in the country.
His Excellency President Kalam, always comes up with revolutionary ideas. Till now President's office has been awarded to retired politicians who used to act as rubber stamps barring a few exceptions. Mr. Kalam changed that perception. Now he is giving a new dimension in the form of this new idea of proposing name of some non-political person who has excelled to magical high in some spectrum of life. No doubut Mr Murthy is a very fitting candidate to occupy that office. As thomas has pointed out below, there can be some other names as well like of India's Green Revalution, Mr. Swaminathan and the Milkman of India, Mr. Varghes Kurian. Surely. Why not. They can be. But one thing is common in all of them. They are non-political and achieved excellence in their respective fields. In this era of IT and software revolution, where India is growing by leaps and bound, Murthy is a very correct case to be nominated. Not just IT, but Murhty has shown that he cares for common man of India through various charitable activities run by Infosys under monitoring of Mrs. Sudha Murhty. Mr. Murhty has also shown that he is a principled person through B'lore airport related project. This in fact proved his integrity. Over and above that Mr. Murthy has global image as well as perspective which will be a great advantage to India in next decade. Hope to see Mr. Murthy as next President of India.
Before anybody projecting a business man like Mr. Murthy, why do they think about the father of India's Green Revalution, Mr. Swaminathan and the Milkman of India, Mr. Varghes Kurian? In fact both of them are the real men who are instrumental for the radical chages in Indian agriculture and thereby change the standard of liviong and livlihood of millions of villagers across the country. by the progess achieved through their leadership and farsightedness India became self sufficient in foodgrains and Milk. They are instrumental for more job creation for the common man of India. considering the fact that majority of the people in India are depends on agriculture, these men's importance is larger than the job and wealth created by Mr. Murthy only for the public school educated middle class youth. what abut the 'Metro man, Mr. Sreedharan, who is synonymous for dedication, honesty and created engineering marvells like Konkan Railway & Delhi Metro?. What about Mr. Shashi Tharoor for that matter if we wants to choose his diplomatic skills?
RE:What about M.S. Swaminathan & V. Kurian then?

Absolutely true , but cannot agree on Sashi taroor as he is almost a outsider to the core indian issues and is very young too.
Well, He will have to give up all his business interests as there are rules governing share holding etc. for a president. Another non-political persona. Another South Indian Another Tamil The list goes on... Time we had a president from some other part of the country. How about Jyoti Basu or Abdullah or a woman for a change? Like Rajmata Gayatri Devi or Sheila Dikshit. Now that would be just spiffing, wouldn't it. A woman should be the President! ?

Whats your problem with South Indians? These people that you talk about, are they anywhere in the league of Narayanmurthy? If we really should talk of representation, we need a person from the northeast, not the bimaru states. If we choose an achiever, then lets not discuss his/her background.

Change should be based on talents not on state... U can ofcourse suggest jyothi basu but asking for a change with narayana murthy jus for the tamil issue shows stupidity and not integrity.
In india's democratic govt, President is only kept for signing the bills/Acts but never has any other authority or decision making power to move India ahead. So no point to discuss on this topic.
What President Kalam said is excellent !!! he did not endorse the suggestion in toto. He meant the idea is good. But let us say that Presidency is not the cup of tea of Mr Murthy. He is a straigh forward business man doing something for the general public apart business. Let him continue that. This post can be fit into only politicians, who are already waiting. All rich people and business men can be of no help to our political system. We should look for some 80 president, who is not able to walk, not able to talk, but only signs papers sent by the government and enjoy the fruits of comfort in a most dignified manner.
reservation is the cretria in India for selecting people to any post . So adapt the same here select some one from reserved category or minority like Dawood ibrahim etc

We Brahmins are terribly afraid of minorities and avarnas asserting their democraic rghts.Alas time has changed .Nothing is going to help us.Spreading rumours about Muslims, engeneering riots and getting political mileage also is failing nowadays. So we have to support people like Mayavathi,Mulayam etc.
