I agree with your point of abolishing the President's post rather than having corrupt people from the northern side. However, would the Chief Justice of Supreme Court be able to do a dual job of Justice as well as manning the country i.e. the armed forced?

Dear Sir,
I second your thought. We cannot have able people like Narayana Murthy to be mere rubber stamps by holding the president post. I would infact say that we Indians has wasted Abdul Kalam's talents as he has been dictated by the political parties. we need to make learned men and talented folks of all walks of life to become the Prime Minister and make our country at par with the other developed nations of the world rather than continuing to have the tag of "developing countries".
I request all Political parties and Fellow Indians to Support Mr.Abdul Kalam to continue as our Beloved President of India. May be Mr.Murthy is Very Intellectual, he needs somemore time to get into that Job. I think Anyway he knows about how best he is fit to become first Citizen of India.
Good Point from a person called Wada Paav. Why not have a Person from North East states like Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram.
Why only Southie and Northie, why not from WEST like Maharashtra/ Gujrat / Goa for that matter !!!
I am from Maharashtra, but i support we should have a person from North East, it will be a major boost in the Morale of those states.

Boss Sidhart ur point is well taken that the post of President requrires merit but tell me apart from Kalam, which of the presidents were based on merits and what is the criteria of such merit ? Support from MPs or political party.
But i also agree that it should not become another post like a QUOTA.
But it also needs that we need to have a president who represents the NORTH EAST.
It is true that Dr Kalam added lot of value to the post which had been misused for decades by Congress for accomodating Psycopants of 10 Janpath. The next president will have the tough tasks of 1.Handling coalition claims for power. 2.Handling disputes between judiciary and executive. 3.Providing a stable leadership to the armed forces which will start disrespecting the cheap political leaders.
If Narayana Murthy can meet these demands he is otherwise fit for the post.
In India President is like a rubber stamp that can be use on any paper, there is no power given to this post. Only qualification should be Indian, senior, going through medical problems. Previous president did only, visiting grave yard on birth and death day of our great leaders, or did inauguration and visiting temples
I think Mr. Kalam did good job given a new height to this post, so it%u2019s better to continue Mr. Kalam this tenure or any non politician.
Either Narayana Murthy or Mr E.Sreedharan will make for a good Prez, but it isnt likely coz of political reasons. Here a South Indian has always alternated with a Northie in the presidential race, so after Dr Kalaam, now its the turn of some Kapoor or Bachchan :-)
Why not M.S.Swaminathan, or Kasturi Rangan , Ranga Rajan, vargees Kurian, Metro man Sreedharan, Sam Pitroda.
All are known for their acheievements and impacted the lives of the Indians in a very very huge way, all are known for their passion for working for a greater goodness of Indians.
And moreover every body knows how to tackle with these dirty politicians very well.
But please do not push Sri Narayan Murthy, as he is very much needed to inspire corprate sucess and cannot work with bad politicians as was visible in the war with Deve Gowda.
He knows that he can inspire the young managers and corporate world in a great way, never the politicians.
Rather, I would like to see Sudha Murthy as she is having a great experience of interacting with the common people in a large way.
