Nrayan Murthy as president?????
by Cocerned Indian on Apr 11, 2007 12:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What has happened to Indians? Do they want to make a man who feels embarassed to sing the National Anthem, the President of the country? Forget about making him the First Citizen. Many people are asking for his citizenship to be stripped. How can the one who shows disrespect to our National Anthem be the supreme commander of the armed forces who are ready to sacrifice their lives for the Anthem.

It would only be fair that, in the aftermath of the National Anthem episode at Infosys and the subsequent comments made by Narayan Murthy, he should be removed from all the non-corporate commitees and institutions. And the government should take all the necessary steps to bring him to justice.

Pl's read this Mr gowda
I too agree he is good citizen of india

If the media statement has hurt anybody's sentiments, I deeply apologise

NR Narayana Murthy
Mr Murthy said that he "deeply apologised" if an answer he gave to a media question during the course of President Kalam's recent visit to the Infosys Mysore campus caused any offence.

The Infosys founder was asked why only an instrumental version of the Indian national anthem was played during the president's visit.

He replied that singing the national anthem would have "embarrassed" company employees of foreign origin.

and so???? Whats rude? Instrumental versions of anthem are played in all inrternational ceremonies including those attended by parties of these protesting politicians. I think Murthy was stupid to explain himself. He should have just directed.

All the hue and cry is not about whether the anthem was sung or plain music was played. The protocol allows either. But, what's rude is his reason: "not to embarass foreigners".

Dr Kalam can continue
by Rupesh Bhagchandani on Apr 11, 2007 11:35 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I believe that Dr. Kalam has still lot to offer as President and should continue.

Million dollar question is whether UPA (United Pichada Alliance) wants decorated & learned person like Dr. Kalam to continue or not. Going by Congress's history, they always wanted people who can dance to their music as President of India. I do not see a possibility of Dr. Kalam being elected again as President till the time Congress is at the helm of the affairs.

Looks like Dr Karan Singh is on Congress's mind. Who knows, maybe he's the next best if Dr Kalam doesn't want to continue. Read somewhere Dr Karan Singh has been in politics without any dirt on him for several decades and is a learned man too.

Please STOP this
by Ravi chandran on Apr 11, 2007 11:33 AM  Permalink

It is a shame for India to make Narayana Murthy as President. He is a person who did not prefer to play our national anthem.

He is fit to be in the IT industry but not as the First Person of India for 1 billion people. He may be able to lead his company and the whole of India is not like IT Company.

In India, today, the IT population is about 1 million, just a fraction of the total Indian population. Most of the people in this IT industry thinks that the rest of India is also like them well paid, and not only that they are also spoiling the society city after city now, where a normal paid Indian cannot anymore live a decent life.

After many years APJA Kalam had given a new dimension to the President post in India, please do not change that.

Murthy as President. Stop all this right away!
by VG on Apr 11, 2007 10:50 AM  Permalink

Utterly shameful. Read the newspapers, watch the news on TV. Know what Mr Murthy has said during H.E Abdul Kalam's visit to Infosys Mysore campus the other day. While interacting with the media Murthy said he'd rather not prefer play our national anthem when there are foreigners in the audience, saying it'd be embarassing to the firangs. This has even caused an uproar in Karnataka assembly and their govt is going to probe this shameful incident. Ok, he might be a great visionary, socialist, blah blah..but what the hell if he has no respect for the national anthem, but only cares about impressing foreigners. Tomorrow he might say let's not hoist and salute the tricolour in the presence of foreigners, it'd be embarassing to them. Notwithstanding all this, his animated American English accent, do we all still want him to be the next President. For god sake stop all this campaign.
