Masood was an enemy's enemy thats why he was a friend. We noth wanted each other for our anti-Pakistan front. Its important to isolate Pakistan by suporting anti-Pakistani elements in Afghanistan. India used to supply arms and other supplies to Masood's men for many years to fight Pak-backed Taliban forces. But yes, shouldnt streets be named after Indian war heroes as well? When will we learn to honour our own martyrs.
Ahmad Shah Massoud did fight the Taliban, but was he not just another warlord? Should we name our streets after such people? Does Afghanistan not have other heroes?

Dude this is not to appease Indian muslims it to appease Afghans and to break the strategic depth created by our arch enemy Pakis.
Saying that Afghanistan is a free country is an absolute farce. How can you call it a free country when it is a occupied territory under the control of The Americans and its NATO Allies. The govt of Karzai is a puppet government just like its happenening in most of the middle east countries....Only the people of the country can decide its ruler or the kind of freedom or governance that they want. Not America or the Europeans.

Hi Sunil,
You will appreciate that it's still better than the Taliban regim; especially keeping our interests in view. So let's not oppose every thing just to oppose.
Indian govt. should first recognise our own freedom fighters like subhash chandra bose, chandra shekhar Azad before going to honouring other country heros.

mate there are already plenty roads with names of gandi, bose ETC. u dont understand the politics bhind naming Masoods name for the road..the indian foreign policy is to make good n strong friends ..so that pakistan is surrounded and vulnerable..its like killing 2 birds in 1 shot.. u shudnt be surprised if Iranian president comes to mumbai tommorow for dinner..all is plan for a long goal..we respect Gandi and bose..ofcourse we do..but they are long gone now ..its a diffrent world now, games and counter games are played everywhere..by the way we have plnety roads all over india with those names...1 road for a real afgan hero doesnt means the end..

Nice. I fully agree with you. But you cannot help some disgruntled elements who are here to oppose every thing. Kolkata airport is named after Netaji Bose, several institutions have been named after Chandrasekhar Azad but these people will continue to cry. Unfortunately, some people smell rat in every right thing.

We should not be surprized if our govt. honours Pakisthani freedom fighters!!! Oh. God. Save our nation. Always we want to please unwanted friends in all these dirty ways.

1. Afghanistan is not an unwanted friend. 2. This is not a dirty way to honor.
Countries like Afghanistan and Iran have been our friends long before even America was made. We should not forget old friends when we make new friends. Thats my 2 cents.

He is right. masood was a good friend of India and he was killed just 2 days before 9/11. He had known the entire details of Osama and was planning to give it to US. He was a staunch secularist (which is great in a country like Afghanistan and he is currently the Afghan national hero). he has not done anything wrong against India.

Yep, Ahmed Shah Masood was not only a good friend of India but opposed to Talibans till his last day. That is why he is rightly known as Afghan War Lord.

I haven't heard his name before the Sep 11 attack on WTC, how is that he is/was a friend of India. He was fighting against USSR for USA. So India was not in Favor of USSR/Russia.
