Kannada Compulsary
by vijayanand on Sep 29, 2006 09:23 AM  Permalink

Kannada is the second oldest language in South India having rich litrature and is sweet language, the problem with the English Medium students are that they dont try to understand the meaning of the sentence or language.....initially they end up with mugging up ...and it will continue for ever...so primary schools kannada has to be learnt and once they understand the meaning then they can go ahead with other language.....If the mother language is not perfect, they can't master the other language....

english vs Kannada
by kulkarni on Sep 29, 2006 09:13 AM  Permalink

for every one kannada is must and first if you are learning and leaving in karnataka, the decision weather it is political or any other the decision is right as the said schools violated the terms of teaching in kannada they have made before the opening the schools.if you want to teach english why it shoud be from back doors get the proper permission for english medium school and teach in your school so the decision of having the kannada as first is right and the people who violated they must be punished as per law and they should be tried for maligning kannada and for violating the rules. the said school managenent are wholly responsible for the said situatin, the government only had noticed it and have taken the proper step

Anti-English Politiicians
by E Ramaswamy on Sep 29, 2006 09:06 AM  Permalink

Lal Bahadur Shastri advocated Hindi education but his son studied in St. Columbas, Delhi & then in St.Stephens , Delhi & went abroad for higher education. Rajiv Gandhi who studied in Doon School said something like 'we'll only tumble down the hill like Jack & Jill ' if we cling to English. Karunanidhi & Ramadoss (both Tamil FANATICS) keep talking about sufficiency of Tamil but minister Anbumani (s/o Ramadoss) replies only in English even if addressed in Tamil - Dayanidhi Maran (grandson of Karunanidhi) does the same and also speaks Hindi (Karunanidhi spearheaded the anti-Hindi movement).

We need a 'French Revolution' in India against our politicians!

Ramaswamy

No harm in studying in kannada in primary school
by vinay on Sep 29, 2006 09:00 AM  Permalink

I studied in kannada medium till 7th grade and now working in USA. No harm in studying in kannada for first 4 to 7 years. But also there should be a freedom of choice. Its also wrong that if u study only in english then only u can get IT or BT or BPO job. I have many friends who studied in Kannada medium and have ended up in IT, BT or BPO job.
Just want to say that some parents make a buff about sending their students to english medium school which does not even have a good fecility. They ignore good schools just because those schools dont have english medium teching fecility. If this kind of mentality is removed from the parents and if they send children to good school irrespective of the english/kannada medium then the primary education is successful. The government should look for improving the quality of education, giving good fecilities to the schools rather than asking them to teach in perticular langauge

English-Kannada
by Sarfarosh on Sep 29, 2006 06:59 AM  Permalink

I agree state language is important, but what about the language we are using everywhere, in making law, executing, and also building naition. We can't ignore English for Kannada. Closing schools means taking back our children by 30 years. Politician are playing with children education just for their political ends. We should strongly discourage this and educate children in the progressive path.

kannada may be made 2nd language
by EMMANUEL on Sep 29, 2006 06:50 AM  Permalink

hi
the contraversy cancelling licences to 1141 schools across karnataka seems a step backward taken by govt of karnataka.as bangalore is moving on to international map both in economic front with software exports reaching 29 billion dollors.and with its cosmopolitian image, will give wrong signals across world.so stop this cacophony of forcefully implementing Kannada.

compulsory Kannada
by Nazeer Ahmed on Sep 29, 2006 06:40 AM  Permalink

Sir,

Making any language compulsory is rediculus, this should be left to parent and the child.
In fact those who want to make the language compulsory educate their children in a language other than the one they compel others. Charity should begin at home first.
