I think the author has veiled his argument behind an example which will fetch instant sympathy... that of the shiv sena. coming to the point... most gays wouldn't be harassed by a policeman or anybody for that matter unless they give enough indications of getting 'physical' with a partner of the same sex. That's the only conceivable way of knowing the person is gay. Another veiled argument is that of bringing hijras into the mainstream... well my friend why are you equating gays with them... good attempt to garner sympathy yet again! For solving STDs, one doesn't need to divulge his/her sexual preferences. I haven't seen clinics discriminating against people with alternate orientations of sex. Understand the argument against repealing the act... nobody denies the right to have an aternate orientation... the argument is against legalizing it. If its as normal a genetic make up, then i studied in biology that criminals are made up of a genetic variation too! Do we legalize it then? Have your own sexual preference... doesn't need a state endorsement. And, by the way... is sexual intercourse the only need of a gay person? Doesn't the law ban the sex part alone?
Homosexuality (Bi,Gay, Lesbians)is a event that exits in any country irrespective of geographical location and it has its historical background. Specially country like India is not exception for that event. But, due to legal barrier, this event of sexual preference has come to a serious challange in present technological age. It seems people has a tenedency to keep themselves hypocrite even in the era of modern civilization and as if we want only to bypass the blaim and responsibility to the west only. At least western people r honest enough to admit the problem and troubleshoot the matter in different way. Deep thought in psychology will not drive people to throw some silly comments on this aberrantly sexual people. I believe and have seen also in our socity, there is lot of so called straight branded people, who does and hide all these homosexual activity in day and does the same feleony in dark. So, instead of shouting about normlity and ethics, will we ever try to practise honesty and handle the reality with intellectual perspective wtihout talibanising the core or the focus of the issue.

Yes, I completely agree with Kaushik...Gays can live life of thier own, but they should not behave like desperate hunks and try to make passes and touch private parts...I've heard many say about this...Its time Gays/Homosexuals understand this......Otherwise, they would be surely kicked OUT of the society....and listen ROHIT....U dare not DO that...OK, u idiot!!!
The logics cited by the activist is simply illogical and absurd. Today you scream for the gay-rights and tomorrow you will howl in favour of paedophile, sodomy and rape and so on to pollute the society further. When you say, no faculty talks about abythin rather than reproductive health of women and not about the geriatrics or anythingelse, you are wrong Mr. Gay. Nobody talks about the reproductive capacity of a menopausal woman but definitely speaks on old-age rights, old-age health and so on.
Huh.. what liberate? Today Gays (homosexual), lesbians (sex between two women) and other funny sex oriented genders (I said SEX not LOVE). Due to the sickness in their minds, they are trying to create a gender. I guess in the near future even phedophiles (did i spell it right) and sexoffeders too come up with their own gender and fight for their rights. So funny and cruel about these genders. We just need Male or Female and sex is defined as between only male and female. No other definition. Shame on those people who make the sickness to their advantage.
The author is in no way trying to idealize homosexuality, but making us aware that it's a fact of the Indian sociaty.
Let's accept the fact. If you don't like to practice it, don't. But at least, let these people live peacefully. Don't stigmatise someone due to their sexual preferences.
I am not homosexual, neither will I like to be one. But I will not judge a person as bad/pervert due to his homosexuality.
Rather than passing judgements on others and denying that things such as homosexuality exist in India, we must concentrate on real problems like health of people, and tackling sexual abuse.

I dont agree with authors comment and those people who endorse his view. we need to live in natural way of living and should not endorse or made special provision for some sick minded people. I agree with some ones comment that if many people want bestality or incest to be legal on the name of freedom, then it shouldnt be allowed to happen. As being a human being, we need to follow some norms which is healthy and beneficial for everyone. Let not these sick people succedd in doing all these rubbish. one can not justify suicide on the name of personal freedom. then why this homosexuality be legalized.

Yes, it exists in India as well as the west - usually among frustrated people in all-men or all-women kind of environs like jails. And who says these gays are not sexual offenders? Almost always, in public transport, you'll find gay people sticking out their hands on private parts or making a pass - that is the only way they approach others - they never try to find out if the other person has a similar 'bent' of mind. Thus, should these people not be considered offenders? Do they let you live peacefully? Almost all their action is forced. In fact, gayism is a wake up call for Indians to open up and mix our so far separate gender - based soceities.
What is the message of this column? Should we encourage homos or discourage them? Should we build colonies, free daily needs stores and hospitals for them or do we need to stop them from spreading dangerous diseases? I cannot believe that a group of perverts is creating so much of noise. I won't be surprised if all the drug-addicts form an association and demand "right to kill themselves". I would be happy to see a column that talks about various easy and practical ways for transforming these perverts into normal people.

You will remain confused all your life. You sound like a complete nurd, How can you held homosexuals responsible for spreading HIV, you nuts, do you mean that all those people who are infected with HIV are Homosexuals. The Author or the Gay Activists are not asking for a seperate hospitals or community, ha ha you could have even mentioned about seperate public transports for homosexuals Local Trains, do you know that homosexuals are everywhere, in Trains , in Buses, in Hotels, in your own office, may be in your own home a hidden gay, The Activists are just asking for removal of section 377 where homosexuals are put behind the bars for 10years. you dont even understand what the author is trying to say. Read it again Idiot.
"Among lesbians, one of the biggest problems is alcoholism and it needs to be tackled as a mental health problem on a priority scale."...
Its disgusting to read that alcohol and alcoholism are considered bigger problems than perversion and homosexuality!!???
Dear writer, maybe you should get your facts straight before being such a strong pro-gay rights activist. I don't understand how you can club eunuchs (hijras) with Gays/Lesbians. There is a distinct difference between the two. Eunuchs are born that way, Gays/Lesbians are drawn to homosexuality out of their own perverse 'curiosity'. Nobody is born Gay/Lesbian. Now don't give me the same crap and blame it all on the hormones.
I appreciate you fighting for a cause, but maybe the world would appreciate it better if you fought for a different cause... advocating a healthy lifestyle sans alcohol, tobacco, violence, and homosexuality and all the other evils we so commonly see all around us. If you're up for that, you have a supporter in me.

Why are you asking the Author to fight for a different cause, why dont you do it yourself, instead of critisizing what the Author is doing. You are right that hijras are born Hijras, so u accept that being born as hijras is natural, but you know being homosexual is more natural then hijras, as a man or woman becomes homosexual, not because they make a choice to be homos, nor because they are forced to be one, and neither due to any abnormality, as you would fall in love with a guy, the same way a homosexual person get attracted to the same sex. it is as natural as you were born straight(if u really are) I would suggest you better keep your thoughts to yourself, otherwise it is highly possible that tomorrow your own son or daughter may urn up to you and open up as being homosexual. God Bless you.
You have very different views and the courage as we had seen in the past.
You don't mind abusing our Gandhiji, and you keep on preaching and advocating your views! Keep your crazy thoughts to yourself and to the so called liberators!
Please don't come out to teach us!
You want to satisfy the desires of your body, not bothered about the public norms and the implications!
