All, it is rather sad to see the messages on this page trumpeting gross ignorance of human sexuality and psychology. Being gay/lesbian is not unnatural; neither is it a mental illness or perversion. Violence and unreasonable, ill-informed hatred and refusal to see reason and accept facts IS unnatural and perversion.
Read, learn, discuss with someone knowledgeable about human sexuality- they will tell you that approx. 5% of the whole world population have strong same-sex attraction.
I am a gay man. As 'normal' and capable as most of the intelligent people are. I work in a software company, where almost everyone knows that I gay. So does my family. Not that I flaunt my sexuality; not that I use it to my 'advantage'- just stating a fact.
On repealing the s. 377 or decriminalizing homosexuality in India: we are only taking a minor step towards being with the rest of the world which respect individual liberties and ensure non-discrimination, so that gays/lesbians/bisexuals/other sexual minorities have the basic rights of leading their life the way they feel fit without harming anyone else.

I appreciate your response my friend. I have a point to make... you claim to understand human psychology & sexuality better than most here. I am sure you know that we are all human beings, and yet we revert to psychologists for problems related to human behaviour. My point is that being a gay yourself, doesn't mean you understand everything about gays! Also, being non-gay isn't a disqualification to comment. i quote you-"On repealing the s. 377 or decriminalizing homosexuality in India: we are only taking a minor step towards being with the rest of the world which respect individual liberties and ensure non-discrimination, so that gays/lesbians/bisexuals/other sexual minorities have the basic rights of leading their life the way they feel fit without harming anyone else" you mean the basic right for leading a homosexual life is to engage in sex alone? Is that the sstep towards being with the rest of the world you are talking about? Don't get me wrong but the article doesn't discriminate on any other ground. As far as other countries are concerned, there are a handful who have accepted homosexuality. India with its cultural history has more reasons to reject it.

Benny, It was great reading your msg. I appreciate the way you have put across ur thoughts . More importantly I appreciate ur courage and pragmatism for the manner in which u accept and declare ur homosexuality, without letting that be a disadvantage nor taking advantage of that. I am not a homosexual but yes I have met people who are - and have found no difference in the emotions and experiences that we all go through in life... I feel pained when I see people forgetting that we are all human beings - susceptible to the same pains and joys irrespective of our sexual preferences... Its the same struggle which each one of us undergoes - in order to live, love and grow as individuals. I hope people will open their eyes to the reality that is...and not just live in their cocoon of suspicion, hatred and misapprehensions..
It is good to see an article like this to be aware of the things going on around!!! I feel, this to be encouraging for gay/lesbian community but discouraging for Indian culture rather disgusting. Being in good health or to live happily is a human right and it must be encouraged irrespective of every other thing. Being a human we must behave like a human. It is disgusting to see about this kind of thing in the world at times though practicable to accept the reality. However, it should not be supported by bringing it to the surface that in one hand affects the mental health of up coming generation and in other hand enables every other person from western world to know the weaknesses of India. It inturn affects the reputation of Indian culture.
Looks like the author of this article wants to loosen the very foundation of Indian family and society. If people who support him in his thinking then, why just liberate gays??Liberate every kind of relationship.I am sure one day people will start fighting for legalising of relationships like mother weds her own son or father weds his own daughter, why not even think of mother marrying her own daughter and father marrying his own son. These gays are mentally pervert people. They will go to any extent of demeaning societal norms.Just because other countries have started legalising these kind of dirty relationships it doesnt mean that India needs to follow suit.In a country where prostitution is still not legalised how can even one think of legalising gay and lesbian relationships.
Homosexuality is abnormal.Yes. But who has created this abnormality?..........Nature.Yes,Its a natural abnormality. But it does not cause any ill effect on the individual except their sexual orientation.
Why people think that every man will turn into homosexual if it is accepted in the society? can u start flying if u think of flying .
Its not a habit. its a phenomenon.
No.
Gays r born not made.
and the cause is still unknown. Whether genetical, hormonal or psychological.
Anyways i have never seen any gay doing crimes against society. They r generally gud ppl. let them live.
One thing more........for all homophobics.....
wat if their own son, brother, relative is a gay???
RE:just understand gays if u dont want to help them.

"Homosexuality is abnormal.Yes. But who has created this abnormality?..........Nature.Yes,Its a natural abnormality. But it does not cause any ill effect on the individual except their sexual orientation" Fair enough. Everyone accepts that argument.
"Why people think that every man will turn into homosexual if it is accepted in the society? can u start flying if u think of flying ." An incorrect analogy... Legalizing an "abnormality"(your term) isn't a great sign of development for a society. "Its not a habit. its a phenomenon. " Maybe... maybe not. "Gays r born not made." Its a debatable point. You cannot generalize a sexual characteristic for anyone. Everyone has a unique makeup. Some people might temporarily become attracted to the same sex, but later might become heterosexual or vice-versa for instance. "Anyways i have never seen any gay doing crimes against society. They r generally gud ppl. let them live"-i don't think anybody said gays weer the only perpetrators of crime. Infact criminals aer often a result of their genetic make-up. So you realize the depth of argument here? As far as having one of our family members as gay is concerned-it remains unnatural!

Majority of the Indian fashion industry is composed of gays! So feel happy that the creativity of the country is being recognised nevertheless!
I think no Gay/Homosexual should be allowed in the in the Mainstream. It does not serve any purpose to Nation/Soceity.There total Life/Biology & Sociaoology is against Human Laws & Norms laid down by Nature which we just can't violate. There is no point in debating it.A genetical disorder which ahs caused such a birth should be looked at,researched & medical alternatives should be available to nip in bud this particular disorder. There is no place for rights to Homosexual or Gays in any Sane soceity. As of today there is more than Social stress a human mind could take.I request you not to aad another detrimental dimension which may trugger the identity crisis. As per basic biological life cycle Heterogenous Intercourse only serves the purpose for which the instrument of Intercourse is present in human mind/biology.So no rights to GAY/HOMOSEXUALS exixts at leat nature itself amends its laws/logic to destroy the symphony of this beautiful Earth.
This kind of ignorant talk really bothers me. Sexual orientation is not a matter of choice. It has been observed by scientists that people are gay or straight by birth. In countries where homosexuality is legal people are not becoming homosexuals by the millions. They are not becoming incestuous and having sex within to family, nor are they marrying animals.

My friend... sexual orientation may/may not be a matter of choice... but having sex definitely is! Read the law... its restricted to the act of sex and not sexuality. As far as the disappointment over strong remarks against homosex is concerned... yea i agree, its a bane of our society that people conduct debates like that!
If Gay lifestyle remains illegal and outcaste, Gay men and women will be forced into the heterosexual lifestyle. This means they will marry people who they are not attracted to. It is the right of every man and woman to be married to someone who wants them. I will not want to be married to a man who doesnt want me and would rather be with another man. What man wants to be married to a wife who feels tortured being with him. Life will be miserable. What else is left for you. Therefore be logical and allow gays/lesbians to be with and marry their own sexually oriented people. And everyone can be happy.
RE:Why society needs to recognize gays
by Srinivas on Sep 29, 2006 08:35 AM Permalink
hey... i appreciate your argument that many homosexuals end up with heterosexual partners due to pressure from the family and society at large.... but then the person can rather stay unmarried than getting into such an arrangement. WHy is it necessary for a homsexual to get married man? The institution of marriage wasn't created to legitimise sex. It was to help human beings procreate in a dignified manner. And remember the law that people here are trying to shear off doesn't condemn sexual orientation.
I wish all of you criticizing homosexuality would know how its like to be one. There is a good chance that somebody you know and dearly love, your brother, sister, uncle, aunt, best friend or neighbour might be one. Flat out denying or equating it to perversion won't stop the debate. Just take the sexual act out of equation and try to think why somebody still may be attracted to the same. Hopefully will give you different perspective.
Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with 152 [imprisonment for life], or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
Explanation- Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary to the offence described in this section.
So stop creating a hue and cry in the name of "furthering the cause of gays". It doesn't prevent anyone from being NATURALLY or UNNATURALLY GAY. Stop having sex with others' knowledge... i'm sure even gays want privacy? Problem solved... its just a hungama about injustice being meted out to society and how our country is living in the stone age etc...
