I think the judgement was right. The rate of conviction is generally poor in rape cases. This particular case was a murder case where the victim was killed after being raped. In all criminal cases where there is a shadow of doubt the accused generally is given the benefit of doubt. It is clear that the lower court's acquittal of the accused was due to tardy ivestigation by the investigating agencies. Here the verdict demostrates that the evidence was overwhemingly pointing a finger at the accused. This particular case shocked the conscience of the nation and of every parent who had a daughter, of every woman who lived under a fear that it could have been her. I think that justice is finally delivered.
justice delayed is justic denied.we are only appreciating the delayed second stage judgement.who knows when it is going to be implemented ? and inbetween there is supreme court and the presidents mercy etc .the offender may happily pass his life time in bail. for the victims it is an added tortrue and agony for the family more than the loss. that is why why offenders are least bothered about any punishment and conviction for their henious crimes.unless appeal restrictions and judicial expediency is built in the system, criminals will have their paradise and victimis remain as victims.
It is great that Priyadarshini Matto's murderer has atlast got what he deserved. But please do not dismiss my doubts as mere scepticism. The difference between acquital, death sentence and life imprisonment (that is what the apex court is likely to commute the sentence to, isn't it?) is too much to absorb without doubting the role of the judiciary itself in the whole process of justie delivery. To begin with one needs to know (we have an empowering Right to Information Act, don't we?) what the high court has done to the lower court judge who had acquited the culprit without taking into cognisance the circumstantial evidences. Or, just describing that judgement as perverse should be deemed fair condemnation of a crime that could well be a case of abetting murder?
People like this shouldn't be give a death penalty. The pain ends soon...
A life behind bars without parole will be better if you ask me... That he stays inside without a hope of ever getting out while his children grow up... That's a hell a lot more painful than dying...
In my opinion court has given the right judgement on this brutal rape and murder case.Santosh singh deserve death penalty even he is son of an IPS officer.Court must take strict action against other cases like Jessica Lal murder case because these big shots son thinks that they are above law.
No matter what the crime is, we can never justify killing even if it is overseen by the judiciary. After all the preliminary court had already raised the fears of lack in evidence. At this stage a life imprisonment would have been the ideal sentence. Capital punishment should be abolished if we have to progress as a civilized nation.
