This is a rare acceptance by a Muslim religious leader, and is testimony, if any was needed, of the tolerance of the Hindu majority of India. It becomes the repsonsibility of the minority groups to express their gratitude by living withthe majority in a spirit of peaceful co-existence.

your commrntator \"labrea\" is obviously shrouded in a mantle of deep hatred, the kind that destroye all hope for the very diverse and inter-dependent Human species. He derides communists, muslims, foreigners, catholics..jusr about any one who is obviously not in complete sympathy with his brand of bigotry. I thought at first that Rediff should filter out such nasty writing, but then it does serve as a benefit to make the rest of us aware of the kind of sick hatred that lurks in our midst.
Apparently only in India is "anti-Hindu" the same as "secular", especially with this hypocritical Communist govt headed by an Italian Catholic and her spineless, butt-licking PM, the 21st century Aurangzebe, the destroyer of Hindus, that same fanatical Muslim scum who murdered the first Sikh Guru. And the so-called 'secular' Hindus in this present govt and other such 'liberals' are as much complicit in the destruction of India's Hindu culture as that butcher Auragnzebe was - this present UPF govt under Dr Singh is even more anti-Hindu than any Islamic invader to date.
Indeed it is gratifying to read about acknowledge ment of a historical truth from a leading muslim leader. However, further actions should reflect if the admission of truth is honest and heartfelt.
By acknowledging the fact that Indian secularism is due to Hindus alone,Syed Bukhari has reaffirmed 2 basic truths-1) that it is due to the tolerant nature of Hindus that Muslims and Christians are living a non strenuous life in India.2) Left to themselves the Muslims and Christians in India would turn the state into absolute theocracies one beleiving Islam as supreme while the other clamouring that only Jesus saves. They should be thankful of living in such a tolerant society which has accomodated various conflicting views.Lest they forget, neither is Godhra forgiven nor Gujarat is not just yet forgotten.The fire smoulders on.... Coming from the Imam, it is a great compliment to the secular ethos of the Hindus. But instead of blaming the politicians for taking advantage of the Muslims, he and the other Muslim leaders should look inwards - it is the Muslim leadership that has failed the Muslims. Rather than trying to bring the Muslims into the national mainstream, the Muslim leadership has all along sought to take the community back to the stone age, with their actions. Hope this late realization will be a lesson for the Muslim leaders, as well as the Muslim community, so there is more assimilation along with maintaining their unique identity, which will be welcomed by the majority community.
Yes, you are correct. Secularism will live only in case majority religion wanted to do so. But we cannot digest about Imam Bukhari's statement that BJP is a non-secular party. BJP has enough members from all types of religions including yours and if it is a non-secular party, they will not entertain people from all religion. Therefore, it is wrong and this type of statements are you are purposely giving for dividing the country into religion basis. UPA who is leading an Italian Lady is the most dangerous communal alliance and communal politics are playing by their topmost leaders in all parts of life. Manmohan Singh is a puppet Prime Minister and India is ruling by a foreign lady who have no property in India in her name so far.
