both side flaws.
by Satya G on Oct 18, 2006 09:37 PM  Permalink

I dont support anybody having sex with minors. Be that Indian or American. It should be punished. But what the methods the authorities used? If they really work and lure, even decent people may get trapped. I dont believe the police/authorities completly in this case.

indians arrested soliciting minors
by aham on Oct 18, 2006 09:33 PM  Permalink

There is no need to feel sorry for perverts. They get what they deserve and only severe punishments can deter people from acting like perverts. Feel sorry for innocent kids not perverts who are anything but innocent.

Punish these Indians
by Ravi on Oct 18, 2006 09:33 PM  Permalink

These indians should be severely punished. There are several thousands of Indians yet to be punished in such crimes - they are often un-noticed.

These indians when they get caught cry of racism.

response to 'sex sting'
by sweta on Oct 18, 2006 09:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The basic problem in this issue is that it is easy to access with full animosity of the offender as well as victim;sex always attracts human minds irrespective of age, setting the stage just right for these intelligent minds.
i believe, the fear factor of getting caught and being penalised should definitely go a long way in preventing this chatting business from turning into a henious crime as with any other crime,a minor can involve in this for pleasure as an adult does, both are equally to blame!
but the solution lies in our minds, what we think& feel is right/wrong.
question is how do we prevent potential minds not to do this out of their own will, ethics& morals being decisive factors & not merely for fear of getting caught?

RE:response to 'sex sting'

Well said. this kind of crime is happening mainly because, most will think that nobody is noticing them and can do anything. And more over it is free. At this moment, I can think of two possible (?) solutions.
1) restricting famous chat vendors (like yahoo) not to give chating for free.
2) forcing the chat vendors, to collect users personal ids (SSN, Credit card etc) and validate their name/geneder/age correctness and display on chat windows. If people original name gets displyed on chat window, no body does this kind of crime.
Ofcourse, it is not possible to restrict all the vendors, but if we restrict the top 10, 95% of crime gets stopped.

Small thing ??
by Shiva on Oct 18, 2006 08:26 PM  Permalink

I was surprised at the statement made by the sister of one of the pedophiles arrested in Petaluma that it was a small thing .. Hello lady .. just because its your kid brother, does not make it a small thing. Pedophilia is a very serious crime. It was shameful to watch so many desis getting caught and then lying through their teeth.

''Such a small thing ?? ''
by Arul Pradeep on Oct 18, 2006 06:59 PM  Permalink

As mentioned in the last line of the article - How can the sister of the accused' sister say that the crime is "Such a small thing" ?? Does she understand what they are talking about ? Would she say the same thing if someone was trying to lure her innocent teen age daughter ?? The crime is atrocious to the core and no less than an intent to rape.
Like any disease - its better to prevent than cure. So am glad that the US authorities are eradicating these viruses.
As far as the sister of the accused is concerned - well, just wait for your brother to be back and set his eyes again! "Such a small thing" huh?

Seven Indians held in sting operations
by Shruti on Oct 18, 2006 06:48 PM  Permalink

I think its very good of the consulate to advice the Indians on different aspects of law who are caught in the situations like above. But at the same time i would like to bring the attention of people that enticing minors to a specific place with the intension of having sex is not JUST A SMALL THING as has been put by some relatives of the accused. Maybe thats the major issue, if a family thinks this is a petty issue and the accused need not be facing consequences then when do they think a person should be held responsible for his/ her actions. Is this the value in life the family wants instilled in its sons/ daughters? I am surprised and shocked.
