what the so called low cast ppl need is self esteem and pride in their respective casts. for this, they must first accept the fact that they are hindus. cast defferences are active in christianity and islam also. conversion is evil and will only enhance problems
Conversion cannot solve any problems, but only aggravates them. To solve the problems the best way is to eradicate casteism. Nobody should be called " dalit" on the basis of his birth i.e. caste. No religion is for castes based on birth.
The Buddhist monks/clergy would do well to steer clear of politics, and remain neutral, to avoid any untoward backlash from seeming too eager in supporting any particular person or party. Politics and religion does not mix well, like oil and water, especially in such a fractuous land like India, where many of the parties boast of protecting her 'secular' character against communal forces, yet openly practice such communal politics. Yes, it's great that Dalits are standing up and being counted, but they must also become part of the mainstream and not the mindless vote-bank of only communal parties.

well-said. what the so called lower classes need is self esteem and pride in their respective casts. for this, they must first acknowledge their true religion is hinduism. cast differences are there in christianity and islamm also. conversion is evil and is no solution to any problem.
