Disease is just a external manifestation of internal well-being. If our own thinking, attitude are leading to greediness, then musquitos will not be afraid of fogging, DDT and Indians. Musquitos too have their own business goals and greediness ;-)
Except for one message from Mr. Giridhar, I find all the other messages giving "instant coffee" advice..!!
Look at our cities, people and businesses: (*) Businesses take care of their own interests at ALL costs. There are many IT CEOs demanding 'good infrastructure' in 20 days in an already over populated city. Reason: They want to report Q2 profits and earn lots of money. And, suprisingly all the IT employees/CEOs blame politicians..None of them has ever voted in their life time !! They even say village ppl have to migrate to cities !! (*) And the people even though they are educated, never bother about cleanliness. They are the onez who dump garbage straight down from their 4th flr flat, which ultimately gets to the already choked drains. As long as they r there inside their cars with AC on..they think they need not worry abt being sane. (*) On top of all this, we have Indian caste system, which propagetes the idea that 'cleaning' and 'cleanliness' are caste based works to be done by the lower-most caste. The upper once, just need to preach a lot about it, And may be join Greenpeace or orkut or just keep on posting messages on BBs !! That will keep the dengue away !!
I am not a doctor by profession, but of curiosity and a desire to equip myself with knowledge, I have learnt the following things about Dengue and chicken gunya:-
1. These diseases have originated from Tanzania, and spreading to Asian countries. 2. They are caused by a mosquito breed known as Alepsi egyptus, which bite people mainly in the daytime between 2 pm and 5 pm. Those who go for afternoon siesta should adequately guard themselves against their bites. These musquitos are found found in damp places like the freezer boxes of the refrigerator, places of damp squalor, stagnaNt water, in dark places unexposed to sunlight (which means that residences with adequate sunlight and flow of air are realtively safe), stored water in coolers, damp coconut shells, in unused vehicle tyres which might have accumulated water after rains etc. 3. They are not viral fevers, spreading from person to person and no spcific treatment is avilable except for controlling fever through paracetamol/ fever reducing medicines.
4.The after effects of these fevers are very severe, lasting for months together particularly in the case of chicken gunya.
The Health Minister Dr. R. Anbumani, exposed his knowledge, rather lack of it, when he said that chikungunya does not kill people. Now his own health ministry officials have said that it DOES kill and we all know that people HAVE died! This is what happens when we have a health minister who did his MBBS from the prestigious Madras Medical College in Chennai and possibly got admission on a reservation quota!
CG is worse than Dengue because almost everyone who got it is crippled well after they have recovered from initial fever. It is pathetic that the government failed to do anything to prevent the epidemic in the intial stages although it is easily traceable to infected mosquitoes. Imagine the loss of productivity country wide by a mosquito borne disease which can be easily controlled by curbing mosquito growth.
I think the present pathetic situation of dengue and chickengunya is purely because of improper functioning of various governament departments involved.
There is no proper prepaln with MINISTRY OF HEALTH or with LOCAL MUNCIPALITIES or LOCAL BODIES to educate people about how to check spreading of musquitos and to take proactive steps to check musquito spreading.
I am sure if these MUNICIPALITIES / LOCAL BODIES are run by private companies they can manage the cities neatly and even if they charge for that we can live with peace.
So, PRIVATISE ALL THE ORGANISATIONS OF SERVICES involved like HEALTH , MUNICIPALITIES, SANITARY, WASTE MANAGEMENT & LOCAL BODIES and it will immediately solve the problems.
Because governament services rarely (never) deliver in time in INDIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My parents have been affected with Chickengunya two months back. Infact the whole town has been affected with few deaths due to overdose of pain relievers (which affected kidneys). There has been no action either from state gov / central / local municipality. I am sure that more than 20-25 % of the town is affected. The reason is open sewer lanes, unclean and potholed roads. For prevention, it all comes down to maintaining hygiene, Its possible at home, what about roads, and open sewer lanes? Do they want whole town to get down before realizing that something needs to be fixed???
I have most of my relatives staying in the rural areas of Dhule district, where many people got affected due to chikengunia and even after they undergo treatments within next month they are agin getting infected by the same. There is a complete failure on part of govt. authorities to take any remedial action on this. Though some steps were taken in the urban areas in several states, rural areas have been completely ignored.
