Just think what happen if Shashi is a Politician...
by Tharian on Oct 06, 2006 09:44 AM  Permalink

Just think what happen if Shashi is a Politician from any of the leading Indian party.... especially if he is a strong leader from congress or from UPA alliance?
What happen is just showing that all these party people is only interested in there party growth, not for the betterment of India.
We helpless people.

A corrupt institution
by Nagendra on Oct 06, 2006 09:41 AM  Permalink

You are damn right! Only Nehru should be proud of UN and Non-alignement. It highly inefficient and corrupt body made of a bunch of whinos. So-called leaders like Musharraf would be good for taht body which is noting but a US stooge. We should not give much importance to this body. UN is partly responsible for India's problems and India should stop putting UN on a high ground.

UN Position
by venkat on Oct 06, 2006 09:32 AM  Permalink

Well thought out piece of writing. Ofcourse, winning UN position, would have given India some prestige, but that is not going to solve the problems, we face.
If we become a financial, military power, this position will come to us automatically, without our begging.
Right now the climate is good for India, to become a good financial power and let us concentrate more on this aspect. With our huge youth potential, we will become a superpower on our own.

Shashi Tharoor fiasco
by HRS Mani on Oct 06, 2006 09:30 AM  Permalink

What so say about our foreign policy. We have lost our self respect. Gandhi and Nehru are responsible for this behaviour of our politicians. We should have followed Nethaji and Sardar Patelji instead of Gandhi and Nehru. God save our nation.

India's obsession with UN
by VC on Oct 06, 2006 09:29 AM  Permalink

An excellent article - hope the foreign policy makers read it. The UN is as dead as the dodo and no benefit will come to India even if we get a mojor position in the UN - secretary general or permanant seat.

Its our obsession with pomp
by Sid on Oct 06, 2006 12:00 AM  Permalink

We Indians are in love with image than the content itself. Maybe its the culture itself which takes pride in festivities and non-sensical traditions. May be its the false pride of some Indians who wanted to shine India all the way to the UN. Its seems that we are too naive (euphemism for Stupid) when it comes to global politics. I wish the foregin policy makers actually cared for the country and its survival and its growth rather than false notions of megalomania.

...drop this UN obsession?
by labrea on Oct 05, 2006 10:44 PM  Permalink

Maybe it's time, like China, India told everyone to go take a walk, and went her own way and did her own thing. But with weak, indecisive, cowardly leaders with their penchant for self-delusion and their obsession with being liked, that's not very likely. These megalomanic morons all thought if they talked about their pluralistic society, their democracy, their tolerance, their ancient civilization, people will see things her way, will heed her, will vote for her. Ouch! It's been just the opposite - in a world where money talks, poor India has nothing to offer anyone, a nation too impotent to even effect events right on her own borders. Worse, she's been humiliated time and again by those very same nations fiercely championing those very same values India has been boasting about. It's time to bid UN, NAM et al, adieu.
