The most Idiotic atricle I have ever gone through. Well the more you try to bring India together more these articles surface - the author has not tried to present facts but only that seem to work in favour of south. North india is much more civilised, developed and culturally rich when compared to South. and waht does this author mean by 'soth has more indian-ness' - well someone go and tell him that there mere survival of south India depends on North India. If there was not for North India, you would not have been writing this article - probably you would have been a part of SriLanka.

.. but when I see the exchange of mails, I am really disturbed... what an amount of venom v carry with in us... waiting for a chance to spit on fellow humans... pity.. v call it as civilisation...! Once a foreigner said that India will bcom many nations in 25 years... & I think v don't require outsiders..!
I just want to know from all of you guys as when you are in a foreign country, are you known as Indians or kannadigas or Tamilians Only Indians wil have these classification? In spite of whatever one says India's official language will not become English as a first language and it will remain as Hindi( pl see Toefl or GRE GMAT forms). I really do not understand the logic behind recognising English, a foreign langauge as one our own and insisting on the fact that we recognise it as one of our own naional language but not recognising Hindi as our national language.
Secondly if Rajeev really want to compare the NS growth then pl see that the growth of south is really because people from all across India have come to south to make it grow. I would like to see how many Kannadigas are working in Bangalore in the IT/BPO or shining sectors, or how many Tamilians are working in Tamil Nadu industry as compared to other Indians. The official stat. figures show otherwise. Middle/ Senior/ most top level management is dominated by other than south Indians in all south Indian companies .... so please do not divide and rule.
Rajeev's article brings out a new dimension, however, in my point of view, the growth of India today is not because of the cultural heritage, but because of the Westerners' preference towards the two giants - China and India. Both countries have realized the significance and allowed these firms to come and do business. The overall growth was not contributed solely by our local firms competitiveness - people have to understand this point.
It was because of Krishna Deva Raya, Orissa lost it's military edge over the muslim Afghan rulers of Bengal and eventually came under Mughal empire. When Orissa was was busy fighting the the muslim invaders on it's norther borders (around mid 1500 AD), Krishna Deva Raya attacked from south and forced Orissa to divide it's military resources which ultimately brought death and destruction and down fall to Orissa. This is a classic example of infighting between hindu rulers which ultimately helped the muslim invaders. Krishna Deva Raya may be a good ruler for his country men but he certainly is not a great ruler.
1. The author is talking as if "Indian" as "Hindu". But for the coming of Islam, caste system would've rotten this land.
2. As much as he argues for stability and prosperity of Vijayanagar, one could argue for the same parameters of Nizam's state or Tipu Sultan.
3. Like someone pointed out, I dont think Maharashtra, Gujrat and Punjab, which are doing pretty good.....are South indian.
4. It is true to some extent that southies are somewhat peaceful, friendly and cheerful when compared with the northies. But that is cultural difference unrelated to the article.
5. Progress is in the future. Singapore has a 175 year history....compared to 100000 or 10000000 years of the so called Indian Civilization.....and yet we all know which country is more prosperous.
As a personal tip, I want to say to the author that logic is one very important when articles are written.
