Get over it people
by VR on Jan 07, 2007 09:06 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I (a southie) have lived in the North and for about 7 years (Rajasthan, New Delhi) and visited Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. There is definitely more intolerance and close mindedness up north(My opinion). Delhi is the only place we (a group of southies -tamilians, malayalees, telugus etc) had been harassed for being southies. We were called "kallus", "kalias", "madrasee behn c..." etc more than once, am not pointing out one utterance.

Not that there is no intolerance down south, the malayalees discriminate against the tamilians(mallus call tamils paandees etc) and vice versa, but I haven't seen it get hateful down south.

A lot of the North makes a southie truly feel unwelcome (Bihar, Rohtak,Meerut,Mathura etc sure did, Calcutta didn't though)

All the posters who think that this divisiveness shouldn't exit need to get over it. Here in the US there is quite a south/north divide and the Northerners ridicule the Southerners quite often.

So its the opposite in India, the dumb asses are up North and the South is getting smarter, so what?

Just enjoy the ride and try to hang with the southies and maybe one day the guys up north will get out of their stone age mentality

Kudos to the writer

I had a realisation that if South India was not part of India we would have been as "smart" nation as our neighbour country at west north side.

I realised this fact when I went out of india and got in contect with many other south asian and east asian countries. I am proud be NON WHITE INDIAN.

2 Peas in a Pod: Rajeev and Bal Thakeray
by Ashok on Dec 03, 2006 11:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Rajeev Srinivasan is an ignorant man who passes for a writer who passes for a patriot. To believe the gall of this man who lives in the USA and then preaches of the beauty, history and traditions of South India while dripping in hatred and narrow mindness. This is a classic case of a man who hates everything other than what his narrow mind has deemed his type, whatever that be. His mind has built concentric circles round him, each outer circle is disliked more than the circles within. The only circle he really likes will the one in the center, that represents him. That means it does not matter which circle you are in, he hates you.
As a Keralite, I officially disown him. As a human I designate him one among the many hate mongers such as Hitler and Bal Thakeray. While he stands low in the Pantheon of hate mongers, we, us humans, must shine a light on these kind of people least they grow large in the darkness and overcome us.

As a Keralite, I hereby officially disown you, Ashok, as the spokesperson for Keralites.

As a human, I officially reject you, Ashok, from the human race as well. :-)

Take a deep breath before pontificating, will you? You don't want your blood pressure shooting up too much.

Have a look at the current Indian Cabinet Ministers !!!

We do what we speak and speak what we do.

I am proud to be a Tamilian and welcome u to learn Tamil - The Classical Language of India.
Tamil Fonts are readily available in the internet - FYI.

why south is doing well
by vijayavittal mulbagal on Dec 02, 2006 07:36 PM  Permalink

the share of south indians in the IAS and IPS and other central services is very limited as can be seen from the statistics available every year for obvious reasons. Hence the intellectual brains in the south are now concentrating more on ITand MBA where they are shining like anything and if you go by the records 4 major centres in USA viz..California, Newyork, Los Angeles and New Jersey ..the majority may be 80-90 percent of the intellectuals are from Hyderabad Blore and Chennai.

Why is the South Doing well?
by Jomon on Dec 02, 2006 07:04 PM  Permalink

It was a great subject to be discussed. I am a South Indian and living in Delhi for 14 years. And i am sure that the south indians are recognised everywhere in North India only because everybody felt that South Indians are well educated, they are sincere and hardworking and trustworthy too. This is the only reason the people in North India accept us.

I know one of my friend wrote " is this issue has to be discussed now, We all are indians". I appreciate that comments. But my dear friend If we are an Indian, we know about India, our culture etc.. Even my colloueges in my office sometimes call "Madrasi". Do my friend know what exactly it is. May be they are living in 18th centuary when all south used be called(By North Indians) as Madras.

People from Kerala is Keralites or malayalis, Tamil Nadu - Tamilians, Karnataka - Kannadians, Andra - Telunganas etc.. Do anybody know this...

Hope people dont take it a negative way..

It is just my comments..

More analysis y south is doing well
by Vipul Gupta on Dec 02, 2006 05:56 PM  Permalink

Dear Rajeev,

Your article was quit good but there are some more factors which actully effect the analysis presented by you.

During the stay of my two years in south i saw that the ground level working people of government like police official(traffic and general both), RTO, Pollution control officials (even industrial) supervisors etc are more honest towards there work. There is high level of education awarness and education which makes people more knowledgeable for rules and regulation of the state. This creats a fear in the minds of corrupt people and hence the corruption level drastically reduces. Also we will find that there is traditional money present in the families in south and hence the craze of money is less making it even less corrupt region. The discipline level of people is also hig and hence the justice works and is not delayed. I think these factor contributes to better development of south india as compared to many states of india. Thehigh corrupt regions like Bihar, UP etc happenes to be far more worst in their condition. Else you will find region in north like punjab, rajasthan etc are equally doing well

Regards

Vipul Gupta
