1. Sentence them for community service in an area full of drinking woes. 2. attach the full responsibility of bringing up the family , in case of accident / death 3. make them sit down in the vehicle driven by another drunken man (with caution and precaution, taken ! ) 4. Suspend the driving licence for 3, 6 and 9 months on consecutive 3 chances ; permanently bar him from obtaining a driving licence in the country and of course any other place in the world.
Although Drivers are committing a serious crime by drinking and driving, Its also the ppl who are sleeping on the pavements who are responsible for making this crime look more serious than it is. What wud happen if those ppl were not sleeping on pavements? Would the crime be still this grave? No b'coz then no one wud have been killed. We need to stop ppl from sleeping on pavements which is more easier then preventing the driver from getting drunk.
I think the loop hole lies in the law itself. When ever there is either a death or grevious injury by a drunken driver the case is always registered under culpable homicide and not as murder/attempt to murder treating drunken driving on par with negligent driving. If I am not mistaken, in the US, the driver is charged with murder if it is established that he was driving under influence when he caused injury/death. That is why in our country, the erring driver is invariably out on bail since the case is treated as homicide which is bailable. Also, even if it is homicide the punishment is stringent in US i.e. min 20 years in prison where as in our country the fellow will be eligible for parole after 2 years. The law needs to be changed immediately.
I strongly feel as a first step, we need to educate and prevent this from happening any further, then go for the punishment, lets follow this first...
1) Laws: Strict laws on drunken driving should be implemented not by talk but by action. For this corruption should stop. 2) We are idiots and fools to call ourselves educated and cross the red signal. After reading this if u do not follow the road rules i will ask you to immediately go and die. THere is no point to live in this world if u cant understand that RED MEANS STOP!!!!For heavens sake that is the as basic as learning ABCD! 3) 7/10 people do not obey traffic rules. If we cant do that first then we can never call ourselves a developed nation. NEVER EVER!!! 4) Imagine an India that stops on seeing a red light. Thats my vision of a developed nation. 5) Dont horn when the red light is on!!!Follow this first. 6) When u are drunk make sure that even if the sky will fall on your head, dont drive. 7) Have a friend colleague with u always if u get drunk. Let him drive. 8) Take an auto/cab if u are drunk to go home or wherever not my problem
Day by day this kind of incidences are increasing, no way the culprit should be punished. But think other way, who let the people to sleep on the pavement? Is it not crime to sleep on pavement? When roads and pavements are porn to any king of accidents. Who is the real culprit, i believe the corporation or the police, who let this innocent people to sleep anywhere?????? Or people dont have the sense after the previous incidence happenend in mumbai itself? If common man is not consicious where the goverment and the local authority??
I know this incidence is basically due to drivers neligence and also being drunk. But the accident can occur with anybody.
When will indian learn from the past mistakes. They would rather prefer to hear critics or breaking news every time at the cost of others life
It is said that surety of punishment is better than severity of punishment but in our cobwebbed judicial system, both are impossible, particularly when the rich & famous or the Bold & the Beautiful are involved. Desperate situations require desperate measures; I say flog the drunken coots in public or better still, hang them by their toes!!!
what can we do? even if i suggest severe punishment. even big US MNC's are grappling with corruption in India at all levels. People (Cops) need to have a conscience. People need to know that a rich man's life is not any more precious than a poor man's life. There needs to be severe law against drunken driving and they need to be implemented by cops and law enforcement. India is not like western countries where drunken driving usually results only in destruction of property. here in India there are scores of people sleeping in platforms/ pavements. corruption needs to be totally abolished at all levels. I sympathize for poor men who lost their lives because of whims and fancies of such rich people who drive their cars rashly and I don't want to use bad words against such unscrupulous people. But I do want to instigate a war against such people. I want the dead to rise from ashes and punish the rich men who do such dastardly acts.
