Regarding punishing drunken drivers, according to me instead of we all thinking how we should punish a person who has done something wrong i think we should implement a system wherein you can avoid such things happen. In my opinion a proper infrastructure should be provided taking care of all safety norms, which helps you drive safely, walk safely live safely. Even after all his (Alyster Pereira) mistake or malfunctioning of the vehicle or drunken driving few lifes could have been saved if they were allowed proper accomodation or not allowed to sleep on the road. My contention is government should think about providing a reasonably good infrastructure with safety as a priority for people. Mumbai- Ahmedabad road is a very good example where because of good roads driving is a pleasure and safe..................
The accident by drink and drive should be considered as criminal offence there licence shold be cancelled and they should be jailed on the basis of murder and given life imprisonment the family memeber of these drivers must also be panished for encouraging drink and drive all the cars and vehicle in the posession must me siezed if they find the vehicles found agains driven by people drunk
If you see the number of drunk driving cases, it would appear that more than 70% of it comes from the "high class" people. Here are a list of laws that could be implemented.
1. Increase in "Fine" amount. The range may start from Rs.20,000 per head (if the person dies) and Rs.10,000 per head (if the person is injured; exclusive of the medical costs) 2. A column in the Driver's license, which has the place for 3 stamps. In the event of drunken driving, the traffic police, 2 passers by with undisclosed identities and the guilty must sign a form linked to the drivers license. If it's the first time, then a stern warning can be issued, with his/her name appearing in leading news papers. If it's the second time, then the fine/ 6 months non-bailable jail term can be imposed. If it's the third and final time, the entry must go into RTO records, to strip the person of his license. An entry must be made in the passport and the 4th attempt must strip him of his passport and all perks he enjoys as a citizen.
I believe people take it easy because of our law. I know that this cannot be done in one step. First a small locality may be chosen. Then the same can be extended.
Good to talk of punishment for drunk drivers. But what if a tyre goes burst and the car hits pavements. Lifes can still be lost for no one fault. Moot question is are Pavements meant for sleeping over during nights or are meant for pedeestrian movement. What is being done to stop usage of pavements for sleeping at nights. Its not allowed in parks & should not be allowed on pavements as well.
Cancel the license for atleast 5 years, hefty fines and barred from certain fundamental rights, so as to punish them for infringing others right....moreover, strict vigilance should be done to check the cancelled license people from not driving again..
Offenders must be left to sleep on the road side, used by people who drive under the influence of alcohol. In that way atleast they would realize how fatal it is to be least bothered about fellow citizens.
I live in australia and the policy followed by the police force and their agencies is a lesson that needs to be learnt by the people in india.Cops will breathalisers are always patrolling the city.Random checks are made throughout the city as well. The cops also make sure that they do not have a set check point, thereby ensuring that no chance of individuals escaping their net. There is a blood alcohol limit of 0.05 which is considered to be acceptable. should an individual be over the allowed limit but under 0.07 they will get demerit points oon their license and will have to appear in court for a hearing session where punsihment either in the form of a hefty fine or some form of community service is ordered. But should the reading be over that, it is a straight confiscation of license, with no form of appeal accepted. Also bribery is not alllowed over here. Should an individual make even a slight hint of a gift in the form of money will have him arrested. The fright of people loosing their license or being arrested is enough to ensure that most people do not venture in their vehicles if they think they are over the limit. They would rather leave their vehicle and catch a cab
You are looking only for sriving negative aspects. But the fact is there are even more serious side effects of drinking. Beating wife is a common thing what we read in news papers, due to this many families are getting divided.
According to me drinking is the root cause of many evil things. Eg: Generally rapist will be drunk, check out the statistics.
So my question is why ban only driving and why not ban drinking itself. Many religions are also against drinking and Indian are one of most religious people compare to the rest of the world.
So ahead and BAN DRINKING itself. This is practicle, just check out in Saudi Arabia.
