Punishment is not a Solution - Prevent it!
by Suresh on Nov 15, 2006 01:52 PM  Permalink

Dear All,

I have read a lot in this section, well... Do you think all these can really peep into Youngsters mind when they are blown, the cause for the Incident (Not accident), they are unaware at that time...

I just like to know, people writing Death, 15 years and Blah Blah, if your Bro or Father or Uncle happen to be the Culprit, you will accept this punishment for them?

I suggest Government should try some other ways to control this menace,

1. Deploy Police or Friends on Police outside Bars/Wine Shops, or have the Parking Lot people educated and watch those or have a Police Patrol stationed always (non-drinking policemen preferred) outside Bars (They can be on rounds).

2. Make NO PARKING in Bars and Wine Shops.

3. Star Hotels have their own Internal Security, they should track youngesters drinking and should take protective action.

4. Even we do all these, if they go to Drink in their homes or Guest Houses or Mix with Cola and have on road... how to Control?

5. Punish their parents and not the Kids....

by Raghava on Nov 15, 2006 01:39 PM  Permalink

Drunken Drivers must be punished by giving a life imprisonment and also their license must be cancelled. This must be applicable to even for Salman Khan who killed poor people. Some High Profile people does not want to co-operate with Police must also be punished and given atleast 10 years imprsionment.

punish them with huge monetary compensations
by sushhari on Nov 15, 2006 01:17 PM  Permalink

all drunk drivers should be given fat monetary punishments commensurate with the vehicle they are driving.. at 5 times car value.. so if it is a Toyota corolla that has been involved in the accident, the high court should charge a compensation of 5 * 12,00,000/- i.e Rs 60Lakhs.. if the party cannot pay, mortgage their house. what is 5,000/- bail for somebody who owns a Corolla? 50% of compensation should be given to the aggrieved party and the remaining 50% should be given to charity.I dont want Alistair and their like in the jails,,, Squeeze them out of all the money they have .. then they will learn the value of LIFE.

Existing laws should be enforced effectively
by Shashikanth on Nov 15, 2006 10:10 AM  Permalink

Provisions under the present law are sufficient to prosecute offenders. It is the enforcement by the police that is to be stepped up. This was started in bengaluru sometime ago and we could notice some decrease in drink and drive cases.

Simple Solution
by raj on Nov 14, 2006 11:22 PM  Permalink

Well, the solution is pretty simple..

Look at the developed countries & understand their rules & regulations in driving & Implement the same in INDIA.

I know implementing over night is difficult., but we can certainly do this over a period of time. If not, we would lag behind.

Drunken Driving
by shrikant on Nov 14, 2006 10:31 PM  Permalink

Guys should be banned from driving for life. I lost my uncle who had 2 year old kid due to a drunken driving by a lorry driver. This incedent had for ever changed the
course of life for many people associated with the family.

Our licensing norms and traffic norms should also be stengthened and implemented in spirit. Rich and those with money power should not be allowed to get away scot free like Salman Khan has.

DUI
by R.K.Moorthy on Nov 14, 2006 10:06 PM  Permalink

. Publish clear photo of the offender in all major
newspapers, English & local language with full details
name, age, parents/guardian's details, time, location
of arrest.
2. the vehicle used by the DUI person to be mandatorily confiscated by the state, auctioned off & proceeds used for a fund to help the person/s hurt etc by the DUI
3. cancel the driving privilege of the DUI, mandatorily, for minimum 5 (five) years
4. Where lives have been lost due to DOI, follow the USA ( in many states) and treat the DUI mandatorily as as Murder l & if no loss of life, as culpable homicide.
5. compensation for DUI should be such, MINIMUMin India Rs one crore per person killed, 25 lakhs for disabled and unlimited for loss of property - such awards to be "jury" awarded & within max 3 months of the DUI arrest.
my feeling, in India, we can never do these ; with the present crop of politicians, hangers on etc!!

They should not be given driving license for the next 20 years
by Subish on Nov 14, 2006 03:14 PM  Permalink

If any minors is found riding the vehichle they should be marked in the black list and they should not be given driving license for the next 20 years in Indian constitution. So let they depend on drivers or friends to drive for the next so much years!! and people who is above 18 and is driving without license should be imprisoned.
And as Passport issue, even license should be issued by Central Govt.

How to punish drunk drivers
by Raghu on Nov 14, 2006 02:40 PM  Permalink

It is elementary...

First time drunk driving should be punished with suspension of driving licence for, say, a period of 6 months, and should correspondingly increase with successive violations.

Any death caused by drunk driving should invite charges of voluntary manslaughter (since, drinking is a voluntary decision), and the violator should be charged under IPC 402. Nothing less will work effectively in a genetically indisciplined race like ours.

drunken driving??
by SUNIL on Nov 14, 2006 02:24 PM  Permalink

1) establish rules & regulations for permissible limit of alcohol/intoxicants in blood.
2) on establishing the fact that a driver has violated the norms his driving license should be impounded for six months.he should be made to pay entire medical expense and recurring family expense of the injured till the injured is fit to perform duty.
3) in the event of death caused by a drunken driver the estimated financial liability of the deceased along with additional sum for depriving the family of a bread winner/a valuable possession should be settled within 30 days and not 30 years.
a tough punishment can force people to behave on roads
