We should change the name of the country
by Naveen Aysola on Nov 03, 2006 11:48 AM  Permalink

Next time anyone calls you Indian, kick him. We should be called "Hindustani" or "Bharatvasi". I will say I'm a Bangaluruian. Let's go back to history, not only by name but also by mindset.
Infact, the original boundaries should also be drawn (before the IT and BPO influx). We should wear the traditional dress to work (even if you are non-Kannadiga). Let's go back to horses and elephants (atleast it will solve the traffic problem) and construct houses in the traditional designs.
If we import all the good things and exchange all the good things with the world, why does a name change required? Beats me!
Just imagine the money that will be spent by the govt. (when farmers are dying) in changing the names in the govt. records. That will mean from stationery to maps to every god damn thing.
If there are no problems to the people, and the govt. has no more work to do for the society, then they can think about changing names.
Till then, only one advice for the govt., do your job and do it well.

Now talking about the money spent....
by Giree on Nov 03, 2006 10:46 AM  Permalink

Talking about the money spent... well what did we do when bombay or madras were changed as Mumbai and Chennai. Its all about the nativity, if one could understand the sentiment at those cities.

Why not here at BENGALOORU?

It should happen, and no stoppages for it.

Name is to written in native kannada and then translated to english...
by Giree on Nov 03, 2006 10:43 AM  Permalink

Its all about how bengalore is to be written if in native language which is kannada.

The whole confusion is about the usage of Kannada 'lu' or 'loo'. I think what is being suggested. BENGALOORU is the right way to use it.

I think it is too late to act on this type of changes when the City has already struck by Globalisation.
At the same time it is Very Much Important to keep Hold of our Mother tongue Languages.

do we agree mispronounciation of our name!!
by shyam on Nov 03, 2006 08:31 AM  Permalink

The name plates in kannada have always been Bengaluru, those who couldn't read kannada, pronounced it as Bangalore, better late than never, let people pronounce properly.

We don't like others mispronounce our name, then why a city's name?

I agree
by Satya on Nov 02, 2006 10:25 PM  Permalink

I totally agree with the name change. We should maintain our own culture and bring back our own literature. I really want to see Hyderabad to be changed to Bhagyanagaram.
