Its all about politics!!!!
by Nazia on Nov 04, 2006 01:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I have to give full credit to the Kumaraswamy government and the Gowda family for making their family blunders as sideline news. With the mining cases, property cases and recently his son Nikhil's escapade... the government is trying to outwit the people by giving importance to issues that are not even essential let alone to be mentioned and made a rule.

The changes in the names are a utter waste of the public hard earned money. If Kumaraswamy and the government wants to make a impact then they should give more importance to issues pertaining to public interest like improving bangalore infrastruture, education, public safety and importantly ensuring that law breakers are punished than giving them an air of innocence and venues of escape (Read as the Gowda family blunders).

It will take more than trivial issues to blind the public of the real deal. First, try to clean the mess in your backyard than imposing idiosyncrasies on the public..... Mr. Chief Minister.

Although it is all about politics we must understand the wishes of KANNDIGAS. We are very happy that the name has been changed to Bengaluru. If any body from non kannada speaking region finds it difficult to pronounce , let them learn it. If it is difficilt then too forget about Bengaluru and go to any other place in this world. We do not compell you. This is only yhr first step and we are very sure that CM Kumaraswamy is very sincerely trying to uphold the rights of Kannadigas by making a KANNADA a must in Karnataka. Jai KARNATAKA ! As Kannadigas we are very proud of you Mr. Kumaraswamy.

by G Muniasamy on Nov 04, 2006 11:17 AM  Permalink

Bangalore is well known to the world community.
By changing to Bengalooru, Karnataka will not gain anything but Bangalore & India will loose the brand name.

Very sad, but if politicians don't know what to do, they will do smething like this.

Bengalooru!!!
by Prasu on Nov 04, 2006 10:35 AM  Permalink

Bangalore or bengalooru. Life will still remain the same. I dont understand why should people make such a hue & cry for a name.

But i fail to understand 1 thing. The same people who now oppose the name change keep mum when the same is being done in their home towns for ex: Chennai,Kolkatta etc., this shows it is just a regional bias.

why cant we all have universal view on day to day matters. why are regionally biased. We are all Indians & should treat the others as indians. One keralite prefers giving job to another keralite.one kannadiga wants to give to kannadiga only. if these things wipe out our country can look forward to a bright future.

Am an Andhraite by birth. but i have learnt all languages whereever i have travelled. Because i love languages & respect others mother tongue.

Mera Bharat Mahaan. Im an Indian,

Bengalooru or Bangalore
by Venkat on Nov 04, 2006 09:37 AM  Permalink

What's in the name guys? Just get along with it. Locals want a name change, the outsiders don't want it and the politicians just raise these controversies only to increase their vote banks. What about the separate Telangana issue going on in Andhra Pradesh. All in all it is just a political gimmick

Bangalooru-The real name
by aravinda on Nov 03, 2006 11:55 PM  Permalink

People of bangalooru know there city name. However, they wanted to understand the meaning of bangalooru and the feeling behind the name to other (other than Karnataka) people who are coming to Bangalore (what they call) and staying from past years and they are changing the culture and environment in and around the Bangalore.

The Karnataka people wanted the bangalooru back, with all there culture actives coming back and encourage the Karnataka culture and actives in Bangalooru. So that the people from outside know that before becoming the Global city its the capital of Karnataka state and it will remain that only. So please encourage before it take different root

Waste of time and money
by Rajeev on Nov 03, 2006 07:30 PM  Permalink

I'm surprised at some comments saying we have gained back lost glory and all that stuff. How has it changed a common man's life ? Has anyone thought about it for a moment ?

If it was all about undoing history, there are thousands of things. Do you know Malaysia, Afghanistan, Burma, Nepal were all part of a common culture years ago. Is anyone questioning why they are not part of India ?

We have to move on. When we look back, whatever has happenned is definitiely bad. But that's not the end of it. Our children would be saying the same 100 years down the line.

So, why bother about a name change when you can do more to change the life of an average Indian citizen to better.

Not just change the name, enforce kannada
by pidari on Nov 03, 2006 06:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

the name change is just a start. More needs to be done. Enforce in a virulent way the usage of kannada in day-to-day life. We have to get away from the yoke of hindi and english. English is ok as an alternate acceptable language. Never hindi.

The government cannot do anything. The people should decide and stop helping people who dont speak kannada. Slowly but surely, everyone would learn kannada. For those visiting the city, we can offer translational services.

Those who are unwilling to learn kannada can leave the city. No need to force them out. Just make life so difficult for them that they just leave by themselves. Very similar to the way the hindi hailers were driven out of chennai. Today TN is more developed because its people were developed. Again because they got an opportunity during the 60s to drive those who cant speak tamil out of the state. In essense even in business meetings people are comfortable wearing dhothis. Big local industries grew because they had space to grow. If things dont change, bengaluru will become like mumbai and kannadigas like marathi manus. Nothing in their own hands. Beggers in their own place. The choice is bet TN & Maha.

jai karnataka

Bull shit! Bluff of the Century!!! No one ditched no other but few extreme elements in the state for which bangalore alias bengaloru is capital. Had uttered like how westerners describe INDIA to be a land of snakes and maharajas. Nothing happened/happens in TN or Maharhastra (except one that sivasenas did once) something described like a wild creature mid of the woods.

Dear pidari has to come out of his little circut and see what's happening around. But dont know how is clear only to understand and tell the industrial developments happening there in these places.

One Important thing. It's globalizing world. It is foolishness to tell only natives for the native. No one is the lord of any part. It was once when this great land of India had only few languages(only 3-4) for her people. Communication being merely non-existence those days, these few languages splited and morphed to many...

Here is a simple thing to understand. The basic script of Aha (the very first lr) is same for both Hindi and Tamil. To do it practically and see from your own eyes, just write down the letter of both languages aside and see.

This land is unsafe bze of such like Narrow minded

Shame- shame- shame
by Aman on Nov 03, 2006 06:08 PM  Permalink

The new name is one of the silliest name, i have ever heard, shame on politicians who are changing the name of a world renowned city, just to be in good books of some illiterate and good-for-nothing people, who know nothing about the consequences that a change in name of city would have on its goodwill all over the world.

shame on politicians and shame on readers who supported the change.

Kannada classical stauts
by Anil on Nov 03, 2006 05:29 PM  Permalink

Hi all,

i request all the kannadigas to stop this discussion of wheather to change the name of cities in karnataka. Instead fight to get the classical status for kannada language. It doesn't mean much to us what the non-kannadigas think of names in karnataka.
