IT's not adivisable to change name of places
by robin on Nov 01, 2006 04:58 PM  Permalink

These politicians waste our precious tax money saying that they are going to safe gaurd the heritage of the state , culture. but definitely they are wasting the money.

Renaming the state will not benefit the people but they do for political gains only .

This money could be spend for the people in the villages who dont have the basic needs still.

It the masses get affected. This is applicable to all the states in India.

People get fooled by this type of politicians.

what's in the name?
by suresh on Nov 01, 2006 04:57 PM  Permalink

In 1995 "bombay" was changed to "mumbai", 2 years after that "madras" changed as "chennai", recently "calcutta" as "kolkata" and latest is "bengalooru".

well, it's now become a fashion for the politician to change the name of the cities by giving a reason as regional flavour. I don't know what they are going to achieve by this? If they are particular about that, they should've done it immediately after independence or during bifurcation of the states.

India needs development, but not like this kind of cosmetic development which is useless to nobody and it's only our money is going to be wasted unneccessarily.

reg name change of Bangalore.
by ramesh on Nov 01, 2006 04:53 PM  Permalink

I think it is good to have local flavour to our city names. Bangalore is more of Indian name than Bangalore. they should take away all the names connected with colonial past.

It should be Bangalooru
by Sateesh on Nov 01, 2006 04:52 PM  Permalink

I think it is very important for every state to hold on to its roots. Bangalore is a word used by the Britishers just because they could not pronounce Bangalooru. Its just not with this name, but with many others.

Regaining our pride?
by puma on Nov 01, 2006 04:51 PM  Permalink

In one-way, it sounds of regaining our pride and self-esteem that we lost few centuries before. This part of the world is most ancient and is well known for its culture and tradition. Being under foreigners rule for centuries well lost everything, our belongings been looted along gone our self-esteem. Here we are now, realized and want to regain back ours all. We actually being a great power, why should we be called upon names kept by foreigners? (Which was morphed for their ease!) People from every part of this world feel pride of themselves and we have more to feel great about ourselves though it is late. Things happening should sense only in this way and shouldnt deviate or over-shadow.

Change of names
by Sheeja Pillai on Nov 01, 2006 04:50 PM  Permalink

No,one should not change the existing names of cities. The reason been they have become famous due to the old names.Nobody will use the new name.It will take time for people to remember the new name and use it everytime they enter into a conversation.Still today people use Bombay in place of MUMBAI and Calcutta instead of KOLKATTA.So it's not advisable to change the old names.
