First of all atleast spell the original name correctly. It is BENGALURU not BANGALOORU. I dont know why are you doing this survey. Nobody is changing the name of the city. Its name has always been BENGALURU. Somebody mis-spelt it and it continued. This is the time to correct. It is not too late. BENGALURU reflcets the history of that cisy where as BANGALORE does not.

Bangalore or Bengalooru?
by Ramdas Iyer on Nov 01, 2006 07:15 PM  Permalink

I say Bengalooru. But frankly the article doesnt even mention whether Gulbarga will be renamed Kalburgi? Does anyone over there even know where and what Gulbarga is? Just because a few guys sit in the airconditioned offices of Infosys or Wipro and write codes for Microsoft and spend their evenings relaxing and smoking pot in pubs, it does not mean that Kannadigas, especially those from the north, go about eating pizzas and stuff. Long before Bill Gates was born, we had our culture in Kalburgi. We eat jawari rotti, we speak our dialect and we respect the culture of Appa and Khaja Bande Nawaz. If some Arora or Chatterjee wants to dictate terms in Bangalore he is welcome but not in Kalburgi.

Bangalore or banglooru
by Baba M Joshi on Nov 01, 2006 07:07 PM  Permalink

Doesn't make any diffrence. When every city name has been changed off a very small cosmopolitian town has become puducherry from Pondicherry.

I would say it does not make any diffrence buy surely would create confusion to interantional tourist and Business, during the intial days.

Achievement
by cv on Nov 01, 2006 07:05 PM  Permalink

We are achieving what Bengalis have achieved after renaming Kolkata.

What all things we do is not for achievement. But certainly we have to do some things for achievement.

Those who think it is just a waste : Why are you posting your views. Isn't it waste of time?

Those who think it is regional mindset : Why Bombay became Mumbai, Culcutta become Kolkata?

Kannadigas are lazy. We do not lobby for anything. That is why Delhites and others are having misconcepts about Karnataka. I have watched many arguements about Karnataka in Rediff mboard. They think Karnataka is Tamilnadu. Tamil mindset and Kannadiga mindset are different. Kannadigare eddeli!

Bangalore/Bengaluru
by Vivin on Nov 01, 2006 06:50 PM  Permalink

Bangalore is an international city,

even though it is an international city, when I speak to my mother or grandmother i call it as Bengaluru, what is wrong if I call it as BANGALORE when i go out of state or out of Country, let the ENGLISH LITERATE understand that, we all call Bangalore as Bengaluru in Kannada and Bangalore in English,I have one question in common, will change of name is going to make any developmental change?

First let us convert all the slums into decent dweling place, let us not waste the money on changing name and let us try to change the life of the needy, we are EDUCUTATED (NOT LITERATE), Let us not live Hypocratic life,

Regards,

Vivin.
