Bangalore will always be Bangalore to me. I grew up in that city.I think the name has to remain as Bangalore as it reflects the cosmopolitan image of the city . It is one of the most recognized cities in the world ( I live abroad so I know that foreigners recognize it). I think it would be a mistake to rename the cities. For the Kannadigas who speak Kannada it will always be Bengaluru. If it is indeed named Bengaluru non Kannadigas will get the pronunciation so wrong and they will butcher it. Let the name Bangalore stand and Kannadigas can be proud of their Bengaluru.
Though I hate most to change the names, but I agree with the Karnataka Govt to change the name. Recently I heard on US TV program that foriegn aliens should adjust to their culture, environment, and should speak only in English not any other language. If you agree with them, then why should not the Indians (state or central) stick to the great indian culture and original names.
I will support the Government and people to change the name and culture so the regional language/culture gets the prominance.
With due respect to all Pro-Kannadigas, we've better things to do and spend money on.As somebody rightly pointed out that such measures would not be enough to shake off the colonial heritage and that to with a vast majority young generation which is fast catching up with western culture.Instead this money & time can be spent making the city pollution free and a better place to live in and thereby living upto its name of "Garden City".Thanks for your time.

Do lot of you who support the new name on grounds of Language can actually read and write in the local language? Even so, atleast for personal records or documents even us the local language? if not why the fuss...
Why not instead of changing the name of the city, people like Sunil and others change there names which will reming local language to a greater degree to them that the name Banglore...
It will make people notice the local language, which unfortunately is suffering from intolerance by many people - who though belonging to our own country, try to act like aliens.
How does it makes the difference?? Infact it caues lot of troubles to people.. lot much changes needs to be done..and lot pubilc money is gonna be wasted for foolish things.. every one is aware of bangalore..and no one is against native language.. in fact india should bring an amendement stating that no city can be renamed..that makes better life for people..
I think it's a nice idea to rename into Bengalooru. Though it's a place belongs to Karnataka, the population of Kannadigas is approximately less than 50%. Also, most of the Kannadigas who work in IT and BT fields speak in English. So, inorder to give a flavour to the name and to bangalore, it's a good idea. The name may look odd for some time, but once it is adopted, then there will not be a problem. The people from outside Karnataka also should learn the Kannada language little-bit, so that they can mingle with the common man and slowly Kannadiga.
We don't have to be ashamed of our names (our parents gave us) when we go abroad, likewise, we don't have to be ashamed of our city names as they truly are and what we have grown up calling them !
Well Bengaluru is the city's ancient name, so we should call it like that, afterall if roads are ancient, name should also be ancient.
Jokes apart, i dont know what difference will it make, it will still remain the best city in the country. I feel Bangalore is a better name, and yeah, Bombay, Calcutta, Madras sound better than Kolkatta, Mumbai, and Chennai.
Politicians use such tactics to appease local people (votes rather), and our ppl fall for it, politicians maybe doing a pathetic job running the city, but just the fact they changed a city's name to sound it like regional language make ppl happy
india is already divided in minds of ppl based on language, culture and what ever.. through these recent migrations for jobs from outsourcing, it was slightly fading, making the single identity of India.. changing of these names with teh reason of adding kannada flavour will do negative effects in terms of creating a national unity feeling..
