Renaming Bangalore
by Mohammad Ahmad on Nov 07, 2006 11:49 PM  Permalink

This is downright stupid, I dont know what the government is trying to prove..but to the common people it proves nothing. At most what will happen is that millions of rupees would be wasted or go into the pockets at every level.
In this age and era i wonder either there are no issues other than of changing the names or the governmet has nothing better to do. If any one can give 10 logical reasons as to how the name change will benefit Bangalore or India as a whole, then in my opinion if the benifits outweight the losses then the name should be changed. Would rediff be willing to open a debate on this.

While said in other language(s)???
by puma on Nov 07, 2006 05:38 PM  Permalink

When Bombay became Mumbai, Calcutta became Kolkatta, Madras became Chennai there was no uproar that is seen now bze they were one for proud.

The important thing to note here is there isnt a complete shift r change in the names as like of Bombay to Mumbai r Madras to Chennai but just to add huor ru at end of the existing names and pronounce in its native lingual way.

So, uttered in its native language one should do it with ru added and can you tell one to do the same while speaking in other language (while in English, Hindi, French etc..) Is it that? Can anyone tend to get into some others and tell them to do in his own way?

Its very fine to pronounce with its own flavor and how to add the flavor with other!? Soon many may try with bengalore or bengaloor by nature. You cant push there!!!

Bangalore or Bangalooru?
by rakesh garg on Nov 07, 2006 04:12 PM  Permalink

The government has no right to waste our hard earned money in such foolish things. If they really want to make bangalore a global city then they should concentrate on decongesting the roads, making flyovers, better road/airports etc than to waste money on such useless things. Rightly said William Shakespeare "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

makes no sense
by S.A.Kazi on Nov 07, 2006 02:39 PM  Permalink

There are many more important issues that the Government should look into instead of wasting time in renaming places. As an example if u start calling somebody by the name Gandhi will tht person get the values of Gandhiji? Makes no sense right, all these are games played by the politicians.
Lets do our duties well so tht the progress of our nation is not hindered.

BANGALORE - ANY DAY
by Hanif Mohammed on Nov 07, 2006 11:35 AM  Permalink

Its similar to changing your name - BANGALORE - any day, rain or shine !!! The old politicians have no right to decide on name change - they should take the popular opinion of youngsters, who are the future of this beautiful city. Bangalooru - sounds like old corrupt politicians !!! Its like going backwards in time.

Change
by Swarna Prabhu on Nov 07, 2006 09:52 AM  Permalink

whatever we talk is going to be waste in front of politicions. And also when change happens, restriction will come from all directions as we used to do. When govt changed culcutta, bombay, madras..,
the same kind for restrictions came, but all got successfully over. Nothing doing with this ...

Be a banglooiran........ Not a protester....

Bangalored
by Siva Rama Krishnan J on Nov 07, 2006 09:48 AM  Permalink

In US, they have even evolved a new English word called 'Bangalored'. (i.e.) when someone says 'I am bangalored', it means that he has lost is job because of off shoring it to India'.

This is the impact that Bangalore has created in terms of off shoring and software exports.

It is better to retain the same name, even though there is nothing in the name.
