Bangalore is Global name
by Shaikh Sameer on Nov 02, 2006 12:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

"Bangalore" is global name, most advanced city of south india and sounds good and easy to pronounce and it should remain the same. I am mailing this from Saudi Arabia, some of the ARABS recognize INDIA by name of BANGALORE.... If they start telling the new name, they would prefer not to start pronouncing. There is no point in changing the names of already popular places. The curropt politicians, only benefit. Whats the govt gaining by that? I do not understand.

Bengalooru...is the original name. Change in the name is warranted to retain the culture of Kannada. Sitting there you wont understand anything. Better mind your own busienss.

Change of Bangalore to Bengalooru
by neeraj on Nov 02, 2006 12:56 PM  Permalink

This one more classic example after Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata etc that shows how our hopeless politicians keep on playing with religious, ethnic, cultural feelings of the people of this great nation. Whether those changes are good or bad, required or not required is totally different issue. But our consitution boasts of our nation as welfare state. But today our government and politicians are doing everything other thing than welfare of citizens of this country. This change is nothing but one more subject for people to chew for few more days from positive and negative angles. Hats off to our politicians, our government and our bureaucracy for creating issues which will sure shot keep on creating rifts between languages, cultures, religions of our country.

why all the controversy ??
by pavan on Nov 02, 2006 12:55 PM  Permalink

when other cities were renamed nobody dared to make it a controversy !!

when we kanadigas begin to assert our identity everybody wants to raise an issue and subdue us !!

this will not do !!

some posts say bangalore is an international city THIS DOES NOT MEAN we should lose our local culture to others !

a majority of the posts oppsing the renaming are from non-kannadigas !!!

why dont you people just mind your own culture and let us follow ours !!

if you have so much liking for the old colonial names then go tell jayalalitha/mamata/bal thackery to get back the OLD names.......but dont try to forcefully assert your opinion on KANNADIGAS !!

JAI KARNATAKA !!!

KANNADAVE SATYA KANNADAVE NITYA !

by Yeshwanth on Nov 02, 2006 12:54 PM  Permalink

This another kind of day robbery by the politicians , this is going to be terrific loss to all sections of society.People will have to change their official stationary, signage, business cards evry thing, is it necessary when every one is trying to survive with soaring prices.another reason for inflation.I am living out of country,we kannadigas are getting embarassed when people turn their mouth to a shape of Bangalooru,u can imagine how it looks.
Evry wher we see in written language only as Bengalooru. Its RIDICULOUS

by Bharat on Nov 02, 2006 12:53 PM  Permalink

Worst infrastructure in the country among major & mini metros. It is a like a big urbanised village.

Only the name had some charm, now even that is gone.....BANGALOORU....makes me laugh.

Bengalooru its Purely Kannada Touch
by Ashok Shetty on Nov 02, 2006 12:48 PM  Permalink

Yes. This is right decision of Karnataka Government, as this place belongs to Kanndiga's & this represents Kannada Language, Land, watar & people. I belive no one has right to object one.

Karnataka celebrate its 50 years formation & now they have to make strong claims those Karnataka Land moved to other state.

'Whats in a name',
by bharath on Nov 02, 2006 12:45 PM  Permalink

Shakespeare said what's in a name, just like his writings are so very much applicable nowadays.Same thing is with bangalore.Bangalore or Bengaluru, it doesnt make a difference.Whether Deve Gowda, his son or his grandson wants to rename the city it doesnt make a difference.

Bagalore Renamed or Prenamed
by anish anand on Nov 02, 2006 12:44 PM  Permalink

Pride, patriotism & economics usually are not complimentary, when people of this country were offered the option to convert to .in from .com there was a huge sense of patriotism floating around but when it came to executing that change people started looking at it as a economic liability as a lot had to be changed which would cost a lot of money. I feel the Govt should give an option of usage of both Bangalore & Bangalooru to its people like one has a nick name for family & official name for business is a concept known to all Happy, Puppy & Babloos.

Bangaluru better seems a village name...These politician can not improve the Bangalore poor infrastructure but they happily changed the name to Bangaluru...Its a political game..Otherwise Bangalore is superb name and attracts the people just by the name.
