It is a good move by the state govt to rename Bangalore as Bangalooru. Why every one has to cry for changing the name to it's original name. Just because Britishers changed the name as Bangalore for their convenience does not mean that we should forget our heritage. It may be a bit fussy in the beginning, over a period of time people will get used to it . I am living over seas , my friends and collegues have recognised the change and they appreciated the move and congratulated the Indian community for changing the name of the cities to it's original names and for trying to retain the heritage of the places. I wel come the move, I request the people not to politicize the issue. Dinesh
Dont worry guys. This is India wherein the white-haired,boring,lethargic wallas are still the kings(places name changers for xample).Even if u like Bangalore to be chaged to Bangalooru or NOT,this is gonna happen. Not only this many other things will happen which U feel are ridiculous.Wait for another 20 years, such ridiculous decisions by Government wont happen as new breed of citizen, the new cult, will occupy the B I G C H A I R,wherein everything will go the way U all like it. Wait for that Golden Days to come.YOU people r going to change it and make that True.Believe ME.

All Indian languages are not derived from Sanskrit. South Indian languages just have an influence.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dravidian_languages
The 'ooru' at the end is not difficult even for Americans to pronounce, let alone the rest of India.
Instead of 'Bengalooru' it should have been just 'Bengaloor'. This would have made whole India happy. In Sinskrit 'oor' means village/place. Instead of putting 'u' (Dravidians speciality of putting 'u' at the end) just '-oor/ur' could be enough. The name changed shows that no intellectual is involved in changing the name. It became bit tough for the other langauge people to pronounce it.
This is awfull man, we are in the age of IT revolution , growing as major Global Soft Power , wt exactly we want to show that In India regionalism is more Power Ful than The Nationality of the Country . We Change Bombay .. Calcutta .. Now Banglore ... WT Next New Delhi to Change to Indraprastha.. is this in any way realate us more closer to our state or Nation ... For cases like this there should be National Concecsus ... We need to Change Our Attitude ...
From Cricket to City Name's......all favoured by Reginalism...
Instead of wasting the public money for changing the sign boards etc. for change of name from Bangalore to Bangaloru, it will be better if this public money will be spent on developing the infrastructure particulary roads & traffic snarls.
There were no protests when Bombay, then a better known city changed, it's name to Mumbai. Calcutta, the erstwhile capital of the British Empire in India, changed it;s name to Kolkata without any protest in the national media. Madras, India's only city known to the North Indians a few years back became Chennai without any adverse publicity, so, why can't Bangalore revert to it;s original name of Bangaluru ? Why the fuss ? People will get used to it.

Let me know how honestly you have paid the tax. While paying tax everyone cribs and now they talk about public money. There is no waste of money....you don't have to worry.
Here we go, One More classic example of people's representative decision to change the name of Wordly known Bangalore to Bangalooru. If the politician had shown the same concern to Problems which Bangalore or Bangalooru, faced like traffic jams, water scarcity, electricity. Then People would b more happy. What's next People's representative, change the name of India to something more fascinating.
