How strategic is Siachen ?
by moresh on May 26, 2006 08:12 PM  Permalink

I am not sure about whether the author understands whether the siachen glacier is strategic to India.

It is the most inhospitable battlefields in the world with more casualties due to the weather than enemy bullets , it is also a watering hole for our military expenditure.

If India pulls back from Siachen Pakistan too will do the same , its a no mans land

Ask the widows and Mothers of soldiers killed
by Manoj on May 26, 2006 06:34 PM  Permalink

I have no problem in trusting Pakistan if the windows and Mothers of people killed in four wars and countless terrosirst attacks agree to trust them.

Or...I have no problem if someone can guarentee that number of deaths due to the conflict will ATLEAST come down

Pakistan cannot be trusted
by vinay on May 26, 2006 02:06 PM  Permalink

Can Pakistan be trusted? - the answer is NO ,NEVER .

its like asking can we trust a snake not to bite or a rat will not bite at ur belongings.

if we check the history of India- Pak relations it is evidently clear that pak is very good at back-stabbing .

bcoz of our high expectaions (foolish enough) of good nature and having good relationship with pak it is we indians who have been suffering time now to end it , and keep a gun/tank/missile at full readiness to strike back while dealing with pak,

as they say - ITS BETTER TO BE SAFE AND READY RATHER THEN BE SORRY AND SUFFER

Can Pakistan be trusted?
by Dr. G.S.Shankar on May 26, 2006 01:36 PM  Permalink

It has been said correctly, trust is to be earned and not bestowed. I do not recall one incident when Pakistan acted in a way it can be trusted. I do not mean this only in the context of Indo-Pak relations. Its clandestine operations of theft of nuclear parts from the west for the so called Islamic bomb. Its duplicity regarding its handling of Taliban and Al Quaida with Afghanistan and the USA is a serious question. Sometimes I wonder if there are two governments in Pakistan, one legitimate govt. of Musharraff and parallel government of ISI. No body really knows the level of power of each and complicity of eachother and the projection of Pakistan with the rest of the world is more for foreign consumption. Musharraff talks big with the western media about terrorism and how to control and then Indian Engineer was ordered to be killed. Indians should stop acting as reborn Prithviraj Chouhans and see the truith and should tell Americans if they cannot trust that country themselves, it would be unfair to put pressure on India to trust a rogue state with the tentacles of global terrorism.
I hope we learned something after the surrender of war gains at Simla. Caution is our Mantra.

Pakistan cannot be trusted.
by Lloyd Francis T on May 26, 2006 01:16 PM  Permalink

Let there be peace in the valley for a significant period (2 years), then only can we talk to the Terrorist regime. The whole world knows that. But who in the world would wish to drive a country like Pakistan to a rogue state or misery.India will be the first state to help them in that case. Pakistanis are also humans just like us, pity them. They are taken for a ride by believing they should die for Kashmir, now Afghanistan also. . Pakistan Govt. especially under Musharraf cannot be rusted in any way.Even though he is the best person for India to control the religious fanatism. Sorry to say that, India has never been an aggressive party at all. Integrate the kashmiris well into the society and show what they miss out in this beautiful world, then they will chase out the Pakistanis on their own.

Can Pakistan be trusted

It is absolutely correct that Pakistan is untrustworthy and talks with it have no gain.No indian trusts Pakistan and therefore Mr Prime Minister to honour the people's view.
