Well done Mr.Manmohan Singh. Those protesting and making write up are not going to help you better India. They are just selfish trying to maintain their status quo by continuing oppressing the backward castes communities. You get vote from these communities. We support your decision. Justice now than never.....
Mr.Kak, Why are inciting violence. Only question to you and those protesting against the reservation policy is: How can the discrimination and oppression that continued for centuries, in every aspect of life, be ended in just 50 to 60 years through half-hearted measures? Your write up is simply a justification for the continuance of discrimination and oppression. Congrats Manmohan Singh govt for bold and visionary decision. Next justice should be ushered to in the Indian Judiciary systems. God save India from so called intellectuals who are void of concern for the downtrodden and poor castes and masses in India.
Now anyone with a little IQ would know that best interests of larger section of society can be served with improvements in elemetary and middle education. Everyone knows that. But there is hardly any drive from government to uplift the level of elementary education in the society because it is not attractive enough as it does not benefit the creamy layer of the society.
IITs and IIMs are the Goose With the Golden Eggs who are liable to be killed sooner or later. Over a period of time, I see government becoming irrelevant and private institutions gaining at the expense of IIMs. The rise of ISB is an example. We may see many such institutes coming up in future (or people going aborad on droves to get educated). With continued government meddling in the IIMs and IITs, these institutes will slowly lose the capability to adapt themselves as per market demands. It is sad and I do not see a way of stopping it from hapenning. If not Aurjun Singh, some other politician would try to kill these institutes for some political mileage.
This is again a classic case of diverting the people from the real issue like overall economic development, infrastructure development and unemployment. This is more of a vote bank agenda rather than social justice.
I do not understand that if we elect u politicians to power does not mean that u stab us in the back by taking such devastating, politically motivated, good for none decisions. I ask all the politicians do u have any ethics or morality left, can u see an inch beyond ur petty vote politics. Is there any patriotism or shame left in u. Is the country for sale that a cabinet minister (or even PM) can sell it or do whatever he likes even though it means disintegrating the country.
27% of the seats are going to be reserved in government funded organizations. 54% increase of the seats is being planned.
So, if a college had 100 seats earlier for all merit students, it would now have 154 seats for all students. Out of the 154 seats, 112 will be for merit only and 42 will be reserved for the backward classes.
The issue everyone seems to sign off on and accuse the government of is that those 27% students will tarnish the reputations of the merit academies.
This is understandable to an extent but note that those 42 seats will also be merit based, albiet on a lesser scale. Now, if these 42 seats get filled, what does the government hope to achieve in an ideal world?
The government hopes that intermingling of forward and backward classes will help better society, that the backward classes will have access to such institutions on a "lower merit scale" since they have not had the same kind of oppurtunities at an earlier age.
Having said that, the "lower merit scale" will only show them the way inside. To get out of such a school, the student has to improve, raise his standard to the level of the "high merit scale" and match his colleagues. Think again!
