She is indeed a victim of higher-ups !
by usha on Mar 08, 2006 03:47 PM  Permalink

Any person could be induced to give false witness in the court through money power. In the present case there was gaping evidence to point a finger of accusation against this lady. But, this is only one such instance and it would be improper on our part to give her the cold shoulder. She only fell in the net of the real evil - money. MPs are bought, corrupt people are roaming free due to money and muscle power. Let us give her a benefit of doubt in that, had she defied them, it may be that she could have paid with her life. I leave it at that.

fancy a rebirth as Zaheera
by kulmohan on Mar 08, 2006 02:17 PM  Permalink

Bewildered ! I am by the ways of justice in India, where the victims are penalised by our courts for a second time.
The same court that punished Zaheera for retracting her statement does not have a resolve to punish a CM most vehment in the justification and support of riots in his state.
But poor Zaheera has been made a scapegoat and punished only because she couldn't standback on her words in the face of an entire state which killed most of her family and yet shamelessly justified the Gujrat riots right from top to bottom, right from the CM to the local policeman. A question to the Justices who passed this judgement and to the reader who reads this passage - What if you were born a Zaheera in your next rebirth ?

Poor Zahira
by Shashank Gaitonde on Mar 08, 2006 01:32 PM  Permalink

Poor Zaheera is victim of the system. She saw lots of politicians got away in spite of lying thousand times. They were never punished. No court punished MPs for taking bribe to ask questions. No court punished MPs in MP land scandal. Law is for common man. He is severly punished so that other common men do not dare to do it again. Had Zaheera not lied she might have been killed. No Tista Setalwad, no High Court, no Supreme Court could have given Justice to her then. She might have got killed by telling truth but lying she got lakhs.

why do we need a legal system like this ?
by Anil on Mar 08, 2006 01:20 PM  Permalink

Is there a need for a legal system like this?

The rich kid shoots a girl in front of a dozen people and is set free. All the people lied in court. Is there a legal definition for the word 'lie'

If there is a video which show a politician taking bribe from some1 ...its not an evidence for the court.

A gangster admit his deeds and couple of weeks after the 'changes' his statement....Court has no issues.

The list goes on and on.

Did anybody know Teesta Setalvad before the best bakery trails? Where does she get the funding to 'protect' people lie Zaheera. Why isnt she bothered about starvation deaths among adivasis in the north...doesnt this come under the 'human rights'.

I think the people of India are very 'accommodating' and Im an Indian.

Rgs,
Anil
