RE:10 things I hate about India

Of all the illness that is affecting India the one that is most prevalent and dangerous is - the mindset of our people. People do not want to listen to others point of view without being pre-judgmental and branding every thing due to casteism.
I see so many replies to the author's article calling him names and rubbishing his article without spending time to think and digest his point of view.
Instead of accepting facts and trying to find resolutions we end up pointing fingers at others and other countries.
We need to first change this mindset to think positively and accept criticism with openness and maturity then work on improving ourselves and our surrounding .We should stop justifying things based on some skewed logic and mock patriotism.

10 Things I hate about India
by Sunil on Jun 24, 2006 01:39 AM  Permalink

Cluade,

This is definitely a good article. I have a couple of suggestion's which could have made your article more attractive

1 Subject - Most of your concerns are directed towards the Indian Govt Employee's. You cannot draw your opinion against a nation by limiting your experience to a few citizen's.

Low-level Govt Recruits are usually the college dropouts or the low graders in school. With the benefit's of Reservation where else can the low-graders manage to get a job? Which MNC would recruit people based on Reservation's? Value's come with Education. You are trying to represent India, considering wrong pool. How many Top-Notch graduate's prefer Govt Job?

"10 Things I hate about Indian Govt Emp's System" could have been a better Subject for the Article.

2 Point No. 6 " Frustration at Home " is not acceptable. No Indian for that matter nobody would be frustrated at homeland. Can I say that Frustrated at France you decided to settle in India?

Apart from these two concern's your article is brilliant. The Govt officials would need to give a serious thought against your concerns. I appreciate your efforts in bringing these points to light. Great Job !!

Hey...what about the religious issues
by ashok sridhar on Jun 23, 2006 11:23 PM  Permalink

Hi pal,

It's good to know the things you hate about India. Let me help you add one (set) more:
'The attrocities and gross stupidity that are prevalent everywhere in India, attributable mainly to the misinterpretation of the religious texts available aplenty, coupled with the gross ignorance of the repurcussions of one's actions'. It is hideous as well as painful to note that most people don't even know why and for what they are fighting for!

Such a great country with a rich past, with unfathomably momentous achievements accomplished during the course of many millennia (which, by the way, are languishing due to the total neglect and lack of interest of the populace), is now reeking due to the unnecessarily great importance given to the concept of religion, as well as it's offshoots, namely, quota systems, conflicts and the like.

India can never really progress until the day when it is purged of such poisonous weeds.

Comment on ''10 things I hate about India''

Sir,

All those points are sad but true! But I personally think that India has changed a lot in the recent years. Education is the backbone of India and Education is making this change happen. There is more money that there has ever been in the past 50 years of independence, people are more self-sufficient and are expecting(or rather demanding) better quality of life. Today most of the people have the (money)power to stand against corruption and not yield to it. I think the standard of living is much higher that what it used to be 10 years ago. I say, India is improving, slowly, but definitely improving!
