Even being an Indian I can not but agree with these 10 'things'..especially having seen the world outside ! Yes there is tremendous development around but unless people change some of their basic flaws and properly monitired by 'un corrupt'and real patriotic politicians and governemnt offcials the image of India is difficult to improve abraod and continues to frustarte those living in the country!!
While the issues highlighted are the more apparent ones or rather the ones that we Indians have now tolerated for long, I strongly feel that the following issues also fall in the same category.
1. India is a hugely child unfriendly country 2. Hypocracy, show off, disconected with reality 3. A highly ignorant and lawless people 4. Change only at a snails pace. 5. Quick to critize the world but no introspection on our own drawbacks. 6. No foresight and no planning to identify and work towards solving our long pending problems. The future also seems doomed for most of the people to be born or living in India. 7. No.1 in all that is deplorable. Disease, lack of a working public health system, malnourishment in millions of children, unhygenic living and working conditions, chaos and congestion almost every where, lack of sense of security with the law enforcers always siding with the rich and the affluent.
At a deeper level, what brings abt these probs in India? 1.Over-population-the prime cause of all troubles. Too many people wanting the same facilities. With complete lack of social security, indvs get sucked in by politicians who only seek to divide and rule. Leads to fragmentation based on caste, politicians take advantage of these poor people & promise to take care of their particular caste's interests, leading to further divisions. There are only so many school seats in good schools. With so many vying for them, the ills of interviews, donations creep in. Lack of good education makes it even more difficult for the masses to raise themselves above pettiness and honesty is the first victim. Everyone wants to have his share of the pie so the poor come to Mumbai & squat on the roads leading to filthy slums. Good for the authorities, they fill their pockets and allow these offenders to continue. Where there is so much poverty, corruption has to come in. 2.There's religion & there's superstition in India. No spirituality. Religion is performing rituals and appeasing Gods. That's all. What's the meaning of integrity? Bet most Indians haven't a clue.
Its appalling to see the negative reviews on this article. Instead of accepting the fact that India has many negative attributes, I was amused and appalled at some of the negative remarks on the writer and the justification given for the problems. Agreed that some of these problems exist in other countried too but that doesnt mean that we Indians cannot take constructive critisicm and take steps to improve them. I know that some of the bigger issues cannot be solved by a single individual but if each of us contributes a little (like throwing trash in trash cans and not on the streets, obeying traffic laws etc) our lives can improve a little. There are much larger issues like corruption, castesim, communal problems, politics many of which we probably we cannot control at our level but if every Indian makes a small effort in improving his surrounding environment we can truly say that we are proud to be Indians.
you are correcet and we have to improve, and it has to come from within.arpi despite of all this you have stuck here for so many years pls list the things you like about india ,definately you must have found some thing attractive.

Dear Sir I am forced to respond to your comments about my country. I am an Indian doctor. Well to begin with I would like to agree with you regarding some of the comments which appear to be arising out of an ignorance about the red tapism introduced by the british to India. India is still a third world country and it is not perfect like the west. The resources are limited and the people are poor (AS COMPARED TO THE WHITES.) Most of the problems arise out of the unavailability of the resources and trying to conserve that we have (for example power cuts). The imrovements are being introduced but will take some time to come into vogue especially after having been looted of most of its treasures over a 300 year period. But then we were barbaric and the white men had to teach us the way to live. The fact that you dont think much of India because of the pice difference in the tourist places is rather shocking. At least in India it happens only in the tourist spots, in Britain the discrimination occurs everywhere. It also happens with the coloreds living in the UK with british passports. I am sorry but this article was not in the best of tastes.
it's very easy to blame some one . all of u totaly blame the india. i want to know why? u r not indian? Is u don't like these . have u take some action ? i want to know that action. it's very easy to count mistake of anyone and it's very difficult to help him to overcome that mistakes. Thanks
The only pledge we citizens of India has to commit"leave chalta hai attitude". we are only responsible somehow or the other for hating for such reasons. If we beleive in action rather than words ,we will definately overcome west one day
You seems to be Immature. First you talk about yourself. The rates for Indians/others in US are not even ten times but many more times in Education and Other areas.
