It is true that no developed country is free from beaurocracy and corruption, its everywhere in the world, the problem which I find in my country India is that it is in every level, starting from junior to senior level. And I dont say it wrong for country, its the moral responsibility of the people to overcome these problems, as nobody abides government rules. Lets take traffic rules, people in western or other countries know the priority should be given to pedestrian, then cycler etc etc and they do it very well without getting aggressive and things go fine. so its on people who has to do better for country. they have to change their mentality, everything will be great and they will find every system themselves upto to order and working like western countries. the present system we are living in is also the outcome of people and not by government.

hope my indian people learn to make their country the crown of this world

WEll it again comes to peoples attitude.... trains always run on time...its people like us who pulls chains in between or some mishappening happens, or some technical fault...passenger safety comes first...i will say to you people has to change their mentality first, then only we can expect betterment of this country. tell me who is responsible here, educated, non educated everybody is same. when some educated breaks traffic light, he says i was late, if u know u r late start early, manage ur time and distance, if u take one hour to reach someplace start one and half hour before... but nobody cares... its their mentatlity...so a very great overhauling of all the systems of india is required.

One more thing to hate. Attitude
by Padtes on Jul 05, 2006 01:20 PM  Permalink

I am indian by birth and residence; but have spent 12 yrs in US. The thing I hate most is people's attitude. The root cause of all ills is the mindset people have. They are getting what they truly deserve.

To add 10 things I hate about India.
by Prabir Kr.Sikder. on Jul 05, 2006 12:08 PM  Permalink

The writer might have not availed Train service(Indian Railway). It remains completely under Central-Govt.The most unorganised sector, probably conducted by mostly very old staffs(who already passed the limit of service -period up to an age of 60 years).Starting from booking of ticket till coming out of the destination-platform,everywhere slow-moving devises, lathergy, illegal acts, untolerable envournment
could be found/observed.
He might have not noticed the Indian -Police Force.Lazy, old,
wearing specs, having expanded stomach and mostly rough and cruel in nature.

10 things i hate about india
by j.k.jauhari on Jul 05, 2006 11:29 AM  Permalink

i would like to add:
lack of consideration for others' time- appointments are not kept. time for social events are unrealistic because nobody turns up at that time. take, for instance, most marriage reception invitations are for 07.30 pm or thereabouts but if you turn up on time, even the hosts may not be there.
late running of trains- fm announcements about trains provide a humorous moment if you are not travelling. rarely any train is on time. why don't they change the timings to a reasonable one? it would save a lot of national time wasted waiting for trains. congestion at stations too.

10 things I hate about India
by Ejaz KhATIB on Jul 04, 2006 10:19 PM  Permalink

I truly appreciate your comments, but these can be only implemented on papers and not on a factual ground. However I have a soft corner for my nation but the majority of our population is illiterate, which extends the hands of the top officials to exploit the nation for their own selfish desires. i am sorry to say but this is what is in my heart. The best way we can help our nation is to educate the illiterate people we come across. And by doing this i think inshallah most of our problems will get through.

10 things I hate about India
by Rajesh G. Chavan on Jul 04, 2006 09:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Claude Arpi has written an article which provokes us and shakes us from our slumber and mindset. These are just 10 things which are pointed by him. But I think there are many more. To point out a few:-
1)Attitude and behaviour of the people in public and on roads-no courtesy etc.
2)Spitting on the roads and in public places-no wonder many of our netas are pan eating chaps and do not want to frame laws awarding severe punishment to the offenders who deface the place by spitting, throwing garbage anywhere and everywhere etc.
3)Attitude towards women/girls especially if she is alone-no intention of helping her but eveteasing and harassing on the slightest pretext and available "chance".
4)Attitude and behaviour towards our senior citizens-no respect for them.
I am pointing these few problems and do not mean that all our citizens are like that but there are very few who can be counted on the fingure tips.
Let us accept the facts and try to improve ourself by changing-for you cannot judge your own mistakes.Let us change our mindset and walk with all the progressive nations by changing ourself as per the need of the hour - for as they say that anything that is constant is CHANGE!!

Hi Claude,
Thanks for expressing your opinion. It is true. in fact absolutely true. Hope the government officials and the policy makers read the message and really do something to solve these problems. They cannot be solved in one day. It may take years. First, it has to be started. To reach the top of a hill, first step has to be taken. In many ways, there are improvements but not enough. British rule have wiped our wealth and we have to start from scrapes. It takes time. I am positive that we will grow, develop and change the infrastrcture. It is only a question of time.
jaya

Well said. Pls remember that India is a secular country and hence all GODS are happy residing here.
This is unlike most of the Islamic nations who only believe in Islamic rule and they disrespect other communities/religions and hence they are always suffering. None of the Islamic countries is happy because of this.
In Afghanistan the Taliban bombed the statues of Buddha and look even Allah left them and today they rot in the countryside.
We as a nation have progressed due to our secular ideals and other than Hindu religions must appreciate this fact.
Leading Islamic scholars like Prof Zakaria often insist that India must remain secular. Instead it would do well if they were to denounce Saudi and other Islamic nations who are a bed of terrorism and killing fields of innocents. Let them say so and we shall respect such scholars who most of the time do not look sincere.
Then there are people like Amir Khan who criticize Gujarat Govt for the dam but keep quiet when innocent Hindus are killed in Kashmir or in Afghanistan. Let them denounce the perpretators of real crime first to look genuine.
So this is India. All are welcome to this land provided they follow our cultur
