If we are failed to respect our country, we should not expect others to respect our country... Every coin has two sides. If India has some negatives, then it has many positives also. If we want to improve, we should look at the positive side, not to the negative side.
-> IT opportunities
-> Family culture
-> Richest heritage
-> Different weathers
-> Strongest Armforces
-> Best scientists
-> Best business schools
-> Different religions
-> Different languages
-> Multinational companies
-> Bollywood

In a business language, we say that 1 + 1 = 3, which creates synergy. When there is will, there is a way. So if we really want to improve our country, we can. Someone has to take initiative. Nevertheless, we need not to compare our country with any other country. East or west, INDIA IS THE BEST...

I disagree about tourist fees
by Prasad on Jul 14, 2006 11:04 AM  Permalink

Although what you say about the entry fee for the monuments is true.
Go check out Egypt. Its no difference. For the kings of valley where local
pays couple of egyptian pounds, the foreigner pays 35 efyptian pounds.
Local can fly from 200 egyptian pounds from one end to other where
foreigner pays 650 egyptian pounds.

I think thats OK with this one, foreigners carry strong currency so paying
INR 750 is no big deal to them but paying INR 200 may be a big deal for
the local.

I disregard this point, rest all noted correctly.

ONE MORE FUSTRATED INDIAN!!
by jaya on Jul 14, 2006 08:58 AM  Permalink

i find this column ridiculous to the heights that i just want to forget that i read such a bullshit. in fact rediff should be blamed for putting this article here.
i am living in sydney from last 2 years, and i know how fustrating things are in India compare to developed countries but there is a very good reason for that, India is the second largest populated country... what do you expect & how can u compare India with countires like US European countries or Australia.Its like comparing family of two childern, with strong back ground & inherted money with a family with 10 childern & one earner & rented flat.

Anyone can say oh! no electricity, bad roads, etc etc but never thought of counting the number of heads being severed with insufficent resources.& about why paying more by tourist paying more...well why do you pay Rs.240 for a burger aboard???!!!

Politics & corruption is there everywhere its just you have been untouched by it till now. & enviroment well... isn't US of A ignoring the calls from european (especially britian) call to global warming, as according to them weapon of mass distrction is more important.

10 things I hate of India
by Mylai S Prabhakar on Jul 14, 2006 06:18 AM  Permalink

Dear Mr.Claude,

I totally agree with your all 9 points except the one
about Power cut due to anticipated storm.

I was just recently in New Orleans and the fact is
many people lost power. You should also understand
U.S. OF A uses 110 volts which is very safe and even
if you get a shock it is not going to kill you.
Hope next time they switch off the power due to a
storm, it is really to save many human lifes not to
torture people.

Thanks and Best Regards
Mylai

10 things I hate about India
by Umesh Sontakke on Jul 14, 2006 01:05 AM  Permalink

Dear Claude,

I fully agree with your assessment & if not 10 I could add few more. But there would have been lot of bitternes & anguish would have crept in!
It was easy for you to badmouth India more but you have refrained from doing so & that itself shows your love for India.
And I am in fully agreement about the discrimination about whites, it is not only on official level but even Taxi & Auto fellows will try to take disadvantage. I believe AmirKhan's recent Coke ad says it rightly.
Anyway a nice article, which seems to be from a nice person. Thanks a lot as an Indian!
Regards,
Umesh

10 things i hate about india.
by sheel mohanty on Jul 13, 2006 11:43 PM  Permalink

good writting about india.two things i hate are-----
1]lack of pollitical commitment for population control,and almost all the government's own programme.
2]the way the upper class people snatch away the government's benefite intended for the poor.even one thinks to help the poor class,he can't.bacause of this obvious reason.
