suicide refuge of mentally weak
by sudhir suri on Jun 19, 2006 07:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Defence forces are the best employers in the country. From time of joining till death they look after their personnel .Over the years instead of productivity ,welfare has become the watch word for commanders.
The defence budget takes not even half a day to be passed ,but non issues take up major portion of the time.m
Let us not garner votes through this tragedy.
Person with weak heart and mind have no place in Defence forces . They should think twice before joining.

Hi Sudhir,
I was surprised to read how a sane person could make such irresponsible comment. Let's get few FACTS straight
(1) Defence forces are far from the best emploters in the country, in fact most people who join the defence forces is because they couldn't make it to other institutes like IIT or other engineering or premier institutions.
(2)A weak heart or some problem at workplace DOES NOT force a person to commit suicide. A person commits sucide only becauce of severe mental stress or something untowards happen to her which she not in a position to discuss with her peers ..maybe she was tortured at the place or she was sexually harrased
(which I am sure the so called "military officers" are very capable of carrying out).

It only goes to show how dishonest and demoralised the Indian Army is.
If there is anything called honesty and professional integrity left in the Indian Army then an enquiry should be set up and the people responsible for this tragic death should be brought to the courts of justice. People should not try to sweep things under the carpet and hush up the entire matter by making naive and purile coments like "Women dont make good military officers".

Army is Bluffing
by Rohit on Jun 18, 2006 12:51 PM  Permalink

The Army does not allow people to leave the force without paying the cost of training under an amortization policy which is ratified by the Secretary of Defence . This officer wanted to leave but was told to pay up and as she did not have the money , she had no other option to stay in the golden cage . Her father proposed that their house be sold , but as she was worried about the future of
her brother , so she quietly suffered.

When you join the force , remember that once you get in , there is no way to get out . If you are allowed to go , you will lose around twice what you have ever earned in the force. Its like a jail and I know what she was going through.

It is time to wake up
by Colonel SS RAJAN on Jun 16, 2006 04:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

A woman Army Officer or for that matter, anybody, committing siucide is rather sad. However when a woman Army Officer commits suicide,it is time for the Services to wake up and ask them selves,'Whether is it really necessary for the Services to have women as Officers in the Armed forces?'The answer is a clear & loud'NO'.It is a fact of life, that women are not the ideal choice for service in the Armed forces except in the Army Medical Corps(AMC).Just because there are women serving as Officers in the US Army or the Israeli Army, it does not mean that the Indian Army/ Air Force & Navy too should ape them and induct women as Officers in the Armed Forces. We as Indians have our own ethos, culture, values & way of life.Life in the Armed forces is serious business.Women Officers in no way contribute to better performance or increased efficiencyin the Army. That being so,inducting women in the Armed forces, which is neither necessary nor inescapable, amounts to purchasing unnecessary trouble;whichwe can easily do without.I am no MCP.All that I am saying as a soldier with over thirty three years service is,let us be practical;and let not the head rule over the heart.Colonelrajan@rediffmail.com

sir, i whole heartedly agree with your view. i have been raving and ranting about the same. sexism has nothing to do with ground realities. women and men mix with greater freedom in western armies. also the 'army'physical fitness of indian men is not much compared to the average western men (not the americas where there's a largest concentration of obese, while this is not a generalisation - yu can see the results in sports where indians lack in fitness). the women are even less so when it comes to 'army'fitness. besides women are 'protected' (note the quote, pls dont label me an MCP) in indian culture, and not actively sent into the physically demanding jobs (there will be exceptions, but if yu look around, yu will find only in the recent years that a small of women have taken towards the rigorous fitness). so i feel Colonel SS RAJAN is absolutely right in his assessment. any person committing suicide is bad enough. if men and women want to be treated equally, why the furore when one female commits suicide ? why do they sit silent when the males die ? its sheer hypocrisy - if yu'd want to protect your kind and label every male person as MCPs.

1) As per your great research, in kargil war, more SC/ST/OBC soldiers have died. That shows we have more SC/ST/OBC people in army than upper caste. You are saying General category people dont have fighting spirit hence they do suicide.
Reason: SC/ST/OBC people in army are not supportive to their upper class seniors inturn giving them trouble, result of which upper class senior officer do Suicide.
2) and one more thing, please do not take efforts to know about fighting spirit/job capabilties/weakeness of upper caste.Because before you make such statements/ur(in)valuable research, take efforts to make your self a knowledgeable person.Because if you would have some knowledge, then you didnt have wasted our time to SCROLL your message by putting your research.

army officer committed suicide
by jatinder on Jun 16, 2006 03:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

First of all I feel really sorry for all those Indian Army officers who has committed suicide before and for this first ever Indian Lady army officer too. After reading this news I did a lot of research on this Suicide Issue in Indian Army and I found that so far only those officers have committed suicide who belong to Upper-Castes. I mean if these people do not have fighting spirit then why do they join army. Last week there was a lot of drama over reservation issue. At least quota people do their jobs properly, It does not matter whether they are in the army or in any other position. Kargil war is one of its example. You can compare percentage of SC/OBC/ST Jawans died in Kargil comparing to General Category; their number is much higher than General Category. Although it is a matter of great sorrow but I think, time has arrived when upper caste people need to start realising their weakness too.

This is a very senseless way of seeing things. You can not link everything to reservations and try to prove your argument. If you really want to talk figures, battles are won by killing not by dying. So if more SC/ST/OBC people died during war, it can be seen as their inefficiency and not a matter of pride, so lets not bring reservations here. If you want to talk reservation talk just reservations, dont mix up things and try to prove topics irrelevant to the event.
