The author has very rightly mentioned how the govt is trying to cheat the so called backward caste and in the process still remain and be called backward. Unless the so called backward caste comes forward and forego their "privileges", they will be keep fighting a never ending war.
Sir, I am impressed by your views ..but the thing is India has changed alot ...today even a well educated higher caste is finding it difficult to survive...you are very true in transforming IIT's into Virtual IIT. The ral fault is of the goverment ..don't you feel that we are heading towards a civil war in India...just because some ol greedy old politicians wants to remain tied with his chair..
The author is an intelligent person and his opinion is correct.I strongly support this opinion. It is shame for the OBC's to enter into an institute after using quota facility given by a minister who can do everything for getting vote. They should hate this policy of begging vote.
Reservations can end only when the beneficiaries of on generation get up and say that they do not need it anymore .But I cannot such fathom such large heartedness from any Indian .In tamil nadu already a seat in an engineering college or a medical college is a far too distant dream .People like me whose dreams were shattered 15 years ago worked hard and built up a career in Software .Now the wise Govt wants to bring reservations in the Private sector too ...!With all the reservations in the Public Sector everyone knows how profitable they are today !BJP played the communal card and the Congress plays the caste card and we foolish Indians run from one to another seeking progress .
It is high time we found a third front !
God save India from these crooked wretched selfish politicians
The Politicians are determined to fool the already deprived classes of people by pfoisting on them some scheme of reservation which seemingly meant to benefit them is contived to keep them at a secondary level without any hope of redemption. The scheme is not really meant ot improve the capability and personality and social stature of the so-called BCs . SCs etc but PURELY MEANT OT HAVE A SIOLID VOTE BANK FOR THE MEDIOCRE AND CORRUPT POLITICIANS . The so-called castes were wxploited previously by the so-called upper castes and now by the canibalistic politicians of the so-called lower castes themselves. If anybody is really interested in the uplift of the so-called backward castes etc , let hem be honest and uncorrupt and help the utilisation of the budget allotment inteneded for the uplift of the communities to be fully utilised for the communities themselves , allocate more funds and provide for laying a strong foundation for the uplift and development of the intelligence ( which the claim to be lacking and compensate by quota- Only fools would think ta intelligence can be developed by reservation and concessions)of the people concerned .
Kudos to thea uthor and to Rediff for publishing this sane article.
Heart of hearts, Arjun Singh ,V.P.Singh and all others are least interested in the upliftment of any people. What they are doing is nothing but politics, but at the cost of innocent youngsters.
I think there should be minimum 50% quota in Govt and private sector both. There should be a state for OBC and all upper class persons should be thrown out from that state and if they enter there should be tax on enetering to that state and there should be separate seats in plane, railways buses etc. as currently we have seats for MLA and ladies. They should get seats on discounted price also atleast 27%. Children upto the age of 12 years should be allowed to travel free on these flights and railways iluding bus. Then only India ca shine. I also think on houseing loan we should be given doscount on interest rates.

Dude, your head is soooo empty, that we can literally hear the air-currents flowing thro that empty shell. You could use it as a float if you happen to fall into water!!!! BTW, before you type anything, please do that in a software called word. That is available with the microsoft office package. You will see little red wiggly lines under each and every word that you type. Click the right button on your mouse.....Not the one that comes out of the hole...The small handle-like thingy near the computer. It will give you a list of words. Ask some brainier person to select the right word from that list. Do that for all the words and when you are finally done, copy that crap that fell out of the empty shell on top of your neck and paste that in the forum-post and click "Post Message". Voila, we are treated to some of the most ridiculous ideas that mankind has ever thought of. Contact a doctor immediately (a merit based one, back-door junta cannot identify your case). You are a rare medical miracle where a person is surviving without brains since so long!!!!
I don't think there is any class in india which is more backward than women yet we don't demant quota. We are working our way up with dignity and the results are evident. Today women are fairing well in many fields. The road is very tough but 'no thanks' we don't want favours from the Govt we will fight our own battle. An advice to backward class. Stop self pity, if you are a 'man' half the battle is anyway won.

If you dont have beleif in iit proffesors then dont join in iit... why do you want reservation in our institutes... if you think tax payers money you are seriously misaken... you dont know any thing about what iit proffesors do research in...if you think our proffesors dont teach us the meaning of life then you are seriously mistaken you can consult a good doctor..who really likes what he is doing and who is an expert in his field.... and not a guy who doesnt have any self esteem.... and confidence who came through back door means...
RE:Wome demand quota anywhere & every where

Hey ,where are you.Women DEMAND favors every where based on gender ! even in elite institutions & work places they demand "concessions" : because:1)they are the weak sex! 2)they have little children to look after 3)they have to go home early to cook for their demanding husbands 3)their in-laws are harrassing them so the should be given "easy desks" so they can be home early etc,etc I can go on & on but there is no time & space. As an officer in an prestigious banking institution I used to dread women being posted to my department, however beautiful she may be !because of they used to demand a lot of previlages, just because they are women.I can't understand how this lady is un aware of these truths.
I have serious doubt about the claims of caste free mind in IITs. Just a few years back in one of the IIT, the professors asked students to stay away from a professor because he was SC. I doubt if the professor knows what engineering is about. IITs are not great because of the JEE scores. IITs are great because the tremendous amount of the taxpayers money is spent on these institutes. What makes an engineer is the training and the exposure to the technology. IITs are just churning out theory masters but seldom engineers. So the reservation might just work producing better engineers as people of different background and not bound by the current lingo (which has not contributed much) of IITs will participate. I doubt if the professor knows anything beyound the theory of whatever faculty he is teaching in. And I doubt if he has ability to guide a student at different levels. And may be he is scared that the abilities of so called good teachers at IITs will expose if they face a wide range of merit.

Hey man! Sid! You don't make any sense at all! Your diatribes about putting down IITs do not hold water. Mind you! I did not go to IIT; so don't think I am arguing in their favor. Perhaps you have an axe to grind; maybe you were refused admission there!! (Take it easy! I am just joking!). Nevertheless, I do agree with you that these Engineering colleges do not teach student the practical applications; instead they are stuck to theory only.

Had you ever been anywhere near the IITs or competed in Engineering with a meritorious IITian (back-door entrants do not stand for the spirit of any institution, leave alone the IITs), then you would not speak like this you LOSER. Remember the fox and the grapes story...............Well, let me tell you that real quick incase you never heard that. Once a fox was very hungry and thirsty and was roaming in the jungle in search of something to eat, when he came upon a bunch of grapes hanging from the vines. He jumped and jumped and try to reach the grapes, but could not do so, so he walked away saying "The Grapes are sour, I don't wanna eat sour grapes"
